Alexander McQueen is set to go beyond shoes with his Puma collection for fall 09. The clothing and accessories line for men and women will debut in Milan next week with a short film “Ghost.”
McQueen and the director Saam Faramond made the film around the collection. “Power” is said to be a theme in the collection, and this season’s sports inspiration is boxing.
The line will include T-shirts and jackets priced from $72 to $790.
In honor of the new US-only Alexander McQueen online shop, we decided to choose another item from the designer to feature for our designer pick of the week.
A lot of times it’s the less detailed, more “everyday” designer bags we really latch on to because when you’re spending that much money, you really do want to be able to wear the bag almost every day.
The edited fashion show of 38 looks was disrupted by two PETA members who ambushed the runway with signs with blood-red paint which read: “Fur on your back, blood on your hands,” before being tackled by security guards and taken away.
New York and London are behind us, Milan is winding down, and the next stop is Paris! The fashion capital is getting ready to present its fall 2008 Pret-a-Porter collections, many of which are held at the Le Carrousel du Louvre, above.
The shows start Saturday, but we’re most looking forward to Christian Dior, who shows Monday along with Vivienne Westwood and Yohji Yamamoto. For the schedule of more highlights we’re looking forward to, keep reading.
Net-a-Porter has a sale going on with up to 60% off, which actually makes some of their designer duds affordable to those of us who can’t shop the runway. Plus, their new $12 ground shipping makes it easier, too. Whenever we hear of a Net-a-Porter sale, or pretty much any sale really, the first place we look is at the shoes. So here’s our top five picks from the sale.
We’ve been known to already have the holiday music station playing in our car, so we’re irresistibly drawn to anything that plays into our festive mood like these cherry red Alexander McQueen round-toe pumps. A hidden platform and seam down the back give these an old Hollywood feel. The $540 shoes are on sale for $324.
If you’re still struggling for ways to cinch up that waist—without resorting to an impossible amount of situps and oblique twists–a fresh new way to distinguish yourself from the crowds is with a triple buckle belt. Alexander McQueen brings us this luxe leather cincher, a tan leather belt with gold hardware and strong madras stitching construction. Another noteworthy pick is this Triple Buckle Belt from Neiman Marcus. This one features silver-tone buckles and side ring insets for a unique look that adds some drama to a basic black or dark brown ensemble.
I immediately fell in love with this Alexander McQueen “Elvie’ bag (left) when I saw it on sister-site thebaglady.tv. The sharp pleats in the brown patent leather and metal buckle are a strong, unusual look, a perfect bag to go with the looser menswear looks this fall. But at $1,495 at net-a-porter.com it’s not exactly in most people’s price range. If you’re looking for a cute bag for fall for under $100, try the EXROILIM satchel from Aldo at aldoshoes.com (right) for $50. A take on the doctor’s bag, the double straps, buckles, and brown leather would also go well with slouchy trousers and a vest.
The fashion elite came out to pay tribute to Isabella Blow yesterday at a special London Fashion Week memorial service. Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and the always colourful Zandra Rhodes joined designers, models and even royalty (Princess Beatrice and mum Fergie) to honor the late, great British stylist who passed away in May. Although many questioned the whereabouts of Alexander McQueen who was essentially discovered by Blow and failed to appear.
