How will the economy affect the Golden Globe red carpet

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on January 9th, 2009

Golden Globes predictions.jpg

Ostentatious jewels and status bags are on their way out, so what will this mean for the ultimate status show down – awards season?

Rachel Zoe, who will be styling best actress nominee Anne Hathaway and presenter Cameron Diaz for the Globes, doesn’t think the move away from bling and glitz will necessarily mean boring black.

“My instinct is always escapism,” she told WWD. “Red-carpet and awards shows to me are not pretentious. It’s an escape from reality….[In the] recession, everyone’s getting hit. People look to Hollywood for an escape. People need an escape, life is tough enough.”

Seriously this time, is Madonna going to be the new face of Louis Vuitton?

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 12th, 2008

Catwalk Queen‘s Kimberley Foster writes…

Whispers are circulating again that Madonna could be the new face of Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer ’09 campaign. I know what you’re thinking – here we go again…

The goss is that the ads have already been shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, although when that actually took place is anyone’s guess. Madge has been so busy trotting the globe with her Sticky and Sweet tour, and fighting off press attention over her recent divorce announcement, it is any wonder that she’s had time to sleep, let alone pose for an luxury ad campaign.

Anne Hathaway at the Venice Film Festival

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on September 3rd, 2008

Anne Hathaway premiere copy.jpg

Okay, so we’ve been a little single minded with New York Fashion Week mere days away. But there are fashionable events in other cities too, like, say … the Venice Film Festival.

Anne Hathaway took the glam event in stride at the permiere of Rachel Getting Married.

She wore a Lela Rose dress complemented by a Bulgari ring and Christian Louboutin shoes.

We weren’t sure about it at first, but her new more casual hair style is growing on us. Sometimes it pays not to look too perfect on the red carpet.

Anne Hathaway likes to dress down … who doesn’t?

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on August 19th, 2008

Anne Hathaway jeans copy.jpg

She may have turned into quite the glamourpuss on the red carpet, but Anne Hathaway prefers jeans and T-shirt just like the next girl.

“The more I get to play characters that are glamorous, the less pressure I feel to do it in my own life,” she says. “When you never get dressed up, sometimes you think: ‘Oh, I really should pull it together.’ When it’s your job to look like that, you think: ‘I’ll just wear jeans and the most awesome rock-star T-shirt I can find.’ If anything, it’s liberated my inner couch potato.”

Movie mania drives shopping in Boston

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 18th, 2008

Bride Wars Kate Hudson Anne Hathaway copy.jpg

A film tax credit has lured film projects and shoppers alike to Boston, it seems.

Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, seen left, have been photographed all over the city filming their upcoming “Bride Wars” and actress Jayma Mays has hit town for “Paul Blart: Mall Cop.”

Mays and her co-workers have splurged at Marc Jacobs, Envi, Calypso and Gretta Luxe all in Boston, and the movie’s costume designer, Ellen Lutter, spent more than $100,000 locally.

Anne Hathaway looks smart and pretty at ‘Get Smart’ premiere

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 17th, 2008

Anne Hathaway copy.jpg

Anne Hathaway is one of our style crushes here at ShinyStyle, and this Bill Blass dress is an example of why.

She joined costar Steve Carell on the red carpet for their new movie “Get Smart” last night.

You would think metallic fabric, sheer overlay, and feathers would all be a little too much. But the classic silhouette and perfect tailoring saves it and keeps it structured we think.

Minimal jewelry and slicked back hair keep the look modern in what could quickly become matronly.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Lindsay Lohan, Anne Hathaway, Liv Tyler and Paris Hilton at the MTV movie awards

The MTV Movie Awards pride themselves on being different, younger, hipper, than the rest of the award shows out there and that attitude generally extends to the red carpet. From bright colors and short hemlines to kooky cutouts and zany accessories, bigger risks seem to be the order of the day.

Anne Hathaway wears Derek Lam and Cartier jewels to ShoWest

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 17th, 2008

Anne Hathaway ShoWest.jpg

Anne Hathaway certainly chose an interesting ensemble from Derek Lam for the ShoWest awards, where she picked up the title of female star of the year.

We think the tiered skirt combined with the ankle-strap heels breaks up her lower half a little too much. The shoes make the skirt length look extra awkward.

Heidi Klum, Helen Mirren, Anne Hathaway, and Katherine Heigl don red for the Oscars

By Andrea Thatcher on February 24th, 2008

red%20dresses.jpgClick image to enlarge.

Red was definitely the stand-out color on the red carpet, and the dresses were so different that each of the ladies really stood out as well.

Heidi Klum was one of the first out of the gate in a dramatic Galliano gown. Maybe either the collar or the big train would have been enough, both together seem a little bit much. But Heidi carries it off regally.

New York Fashion Week: Erin Fetherston

By Gemma on February 2nd, 2008

fetherston1.jpg

If you didn’t know Erin Fetherston (above centre) before 2007, you probably do now after her recent Target ‘Go International’ collection. The designer is known for her pretty, feminine and youthful clothes, and this collection – observed from the front row by Anne Hathaway – stuck to the tried-and-tested formula she’s had so much success with so far, adding a touch of darkness with a muted, autumnal palette. Not so much a collection for hard-edged fashionistas as something for the young and stylish to aspire to, the bold and beautiful floral dresses, trademark mini dresses and mixed textures gave girly looks a wintery twist.
