ASOS and LivingTV team up for America’s Next Top Model Challenge

By Andrea Petrou on January 18th, 2010

Tara.jpg
Do you fancy yourself as a Top Model? If so then log onto LivingTV now.

The broadcaster has teamed up with our favourite online retailer ASOS to set a weekly challenge to see if you’ve got what it takes to be a top model.

Judges from the two companies will choose a winner every week, who will not only win £100 worth of ASOS vouchers but will also be broadcast at the end of each episode of America’s Next Top Model on Living.

One lucky winner will also win a full photo shoot styled with ASOS and a tailored piece from next season’s collection.

The first challenge is all about showing your best runway pose, so get out that full length mirror and heels and check out Living’s video, which is full of hints and tips.

We can’t wait to see the entries. Good luck.

America’s Next Top Model recap

By Andrea Thatcher on February 27th, 2008

Paulina.jpg

The decibal level of America’s Next Top Model is enough to make me want to turn off the television the first time anything that could be remotely construed as exciting happens, because all the girls start screaming their heads off.

The girls’ new loft wasn’t as exciting as that reveal usually is in reality shows. I’m wondering if the price of real estate in New York was prohibitive for the show, or if they really wanted to give the girls the feel of a model apartment. How about a bunch of girls having to sleep in the same bed? Is this the ANTM equivelant of the ubiquitous Real World hot tub?

America’s Next Top Model recap

By Andrea Thatcher on February 20th, 2008

Top%20Model.jpg

The first episode of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model is typically the hardest for me to watch – it’s maximum hype and minimal fashion, you haven’t identified with any of the girls yet, and there’s a lot of crazy antics. Oh, and someone always tries to rap.

Despite the edgy black and white dominatrix-themed advertising for the 10th cycle, this episode started out with a peppy preppy school-girl motif with the girls attending “Top Model Prep” and a faux pep rally with past favorite contestants cheerleading.

The school-girl idea certainly isn’t new, but since they’re on the same network it really smacks of trying to cash in on Gossip Girl’s popularity with the fash pack. But these uniforms were cheap looking, not posh. Instead of stimulating creativity amongst the hopefuls to try and stand out, it just drowned them in sameness.

Saleisha takes Top Model prize

By Andrea Thatcher on December 13th, 2007

Saleisha%20top%20model.jpg

What do you think of the ridiculously bubbly Saleisha as the newest “Top Model?” I will say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the latest finale, though that’s a step up from the pissed off feeling I usually end the season with. I decided when Chantal, Jenah, and Saleisha were selected by Tyra Banks et al as the final three I would pleased with whoever would win. Because I had really just been waiting for manipulative, dishonest, snarky Bianca to go home. But this proved not to be true as I wanted Jenah to win. More commentary and photos after the jump.

ANTM: Shanghai Go See

By Andrea Thatcher on November 29th, 2007

antm_dragonshoot.jpg
Wow, I am truly shocked! I really thought the judges were going to vote Jenah off, not Heather. They kept talking about her personality and how she might offend designers and photographers. But it all came down to the fact that Heather couldn’t get the job done. It’s a shame, I’m not sure if her not being able to find the designers’ places was due to her Asperger’s or not, but she does need to be able to do more than take a good picture to be America’s Next Top Model. But hopefully this experience will help build her confidence and I think in time she’ll be a good model. Go to the jump for more on this week’s ANTM.

ANTM: Girls go to China!

By Andrea Thatcher on November 26th, 2007

ANTM_china.jpgWith all the Thanksgiving traveling we’re just now catching up on last week’s America’s Next Top Model. The six remaining girls flew to the other side of the world to Shanghai, China. The city looked absolutely beautiful! But unfortunately, the girls’ Covergirl commercial did not. But we’ll get back to that in a minute. When they first arrived in China, the girls were shown up to their gorgeous penthouse hotel room. But, there were only five beds for six girls–four single beds and one larger bed. And, of course, Heather was the one left without a bed and Saleisha refused to share the big bed. Heather then became really upset and started to cry, and Bianca started making fun of her for it. But I think Saleisha was the one acting immature–obviously, if you want to sleep in the larger bed, then you have to share. Heather is 21 years old, and should be able to stand up for herself, but that’s the nature of her disorder–she has problems with social interaction–and I think it was really cruel for the girls to take advantage of that. So, Chantal sticks up for Heather and proposes that two girls who don’t mind sharing a bed sleep in the larger bed together, and Bianca and Jenah end up sharing the bed.

ANTM: Model muses and stranded in the desert

By Andrea Thatcher on November 15th, 2007

ANTM%20saleisha%20jenah.jpg
The girls of America’s Next Top Model this week went to Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to be muses for student designers to inspire them to turn a bland pale blue grandma dress into a high-fashion piece that represents each girl. Saleisha won the challenge with a cute pixie dress that represents her bubbly, girly personality. I thought Jenah should have won, though. I really liked her rock star dress and thought she showed it really well on the runway–definitely owned it. I agreed with her that Saleisha was a little over the top with the cutesy-ness and little wink as she left the stage. And poor Heather didn’t feel as though the dress was right for her and forgot her lines, which she became very upset about and flipped out on the girls at the house when they tried to shower before her after she’d called it first.

America’s Next Top Model: model makeover!

By Andrea Thatcher on October 11th, 2007

ANTM_3.JPGSorry this is so late, everyone! But this was a great episode! The girls all received major makeovers–they even shaved all of Bianca’s hair off! Ms. J originally wanted to dye her hair blonde, but Bianca’s hair was too damaged, it would’ve all just fallen off anyway. So they shaved her head, while tears streamed down her face, and then gave her a blonde wig. Tyra and the judges all thought Bianca looked much better without her hair, and I have to agree–she looks so much more elegant and beautiful now. The aspiring models then had a photo shoot where they posed as types of flowers and plants with their new looks. A lot of the girls had trouble with this shoot, especially poor Chantal who was posing as baby’s breath, which should have been easy. But Jay Manuel and the photographer kept saying completely different things as to how they wanted her to pose, and she got so frustrated that she couldn’t produce a good shoot.

ANTM: photo shoot on the rock(s)…wall, that is

By Andrea Thatcher on October 4th, 2007

ANTM_straight%20jacket.jpg
America’s Next Top Model on the CW (or ANTM) gets crazy for fashion this week. Bianca talked down to Heather about having Aspergers, which was totally not cool. But Heather got a makeover and some acceptance from the other girls (finally). At the ‘Fashion Madhouse,’ a mental institution-looking place, Miss J helped the girls with correct runway walking…in straightjackets. Hmmm, tough love? But it was to help them learn how to walk in constricting dresses, such as the ones they modeled for Colleen Quen’s runway show. Saleisha won the runway challenge and off she’ll fly to gay Paree to be a model in Colleen’s debut of her new collection. More on the show after the jump.
