If you follow fashion – who am I kidding of course you do! – you’ll have noticed how Burberry were first with a tweetwalk during their show at this September’s London Fashion Week. Burberry has also been one of the many fashion brands embracing Instagram, the popular iPhone photo sharing app. And while we were busy noting the trends for Spring Summer 2012, Becca over on ShinyShiny had a look at which fashion brands are using Instagram in an interesting way to give their fans and followers a behind-the-scenes peek at the fast paces and highly aspirational industry.
Burberry
The classic British brand is another Instagram favourite and already has more than
100,000 followers! The snaps are always beautifully shot and show you just what
you can achieve with the app's great selection of filters.
ShinyShiny is also celebrating Instagram week and is running an easy to enter mobile photography competition with Orbitsound. All you have to do is take a photo with an Autumnal theme and share it on Twitter along with the hash tag #ShinyAutumn. It can be of a leaf or a Halloween costume, we really don’t mind. The winner will get a fabulous T12v3 speaker bar from Orbitsound and 19 runners up will get random iPhone related goodies.
Visit the #ShinyAutumn competition post to find out more.

Ted Baker Orchid Print Jersey Maxi Dress
I love the minimal/eastern influences of this Ted Baker maxi. Pretty much all it needs is a pair of ballerina flats and some chandelier earrings to make this look fashion-perfect.
Maxi dresses have been in style for a while now, and their appeal doesn’t seem to be waning as we move from Summer into the Autumn/Winter fashion season. But in the winter you can’t rock those dreamy, floaty-hippy vibes in your maxi that you did in the summer – it’s just the wrong time of year. If you want to keep wearing floor-sweeping dresses then you’re going to need a new winter maxi.
In the winter, longer lengths are going to be great for keeping warm, especially longer-sleeved dresses with thick tights. It’s quite a grungey look, which is in at the moment so you don’t have to worry about looking like you’re wearing your nan’s old house-dress. The best way to brave the cold (and snow) in a maxi is to team it with ribbed tights, a slouchy cardigan worn under a biker jacket with some chunky boots for stomping the pavements. Et voila! One hot fashion look, built around your winter maxi.
Our absolute top pick has to be Ted Baker’s orchid printed dress, which we found on the Asos site today. High-necked and long sleeved with an eastern floral-printed skirt, it’s a really elegant piece that you could wear either in the day or the evening if you use some clever styling.
Check out the gallery above for our top 5 Autumn/Winter maxi dresses.

Asos Petite Belted Dress with Star Print
Teeny-tiny fashion lovers under 5’3 will be excited and happy to read that fashion giants Asos have released their new petite collection.
The new petite range is a cute and trend-aware collection of mini-dresses, quirky printed shirts and sixties-inspired coats and tunics. We love their modern take on the classic mac coat, which has biker-style lapels and will look amazing with one of their belted chiffon dresses and a pair of Autumn boots.
There’s also some great pieces for anyone wanting to rock the boyish, tailored trend, as they’ve got a selection of chic tapered trousers that would go perfectly with a high-necked blouse and heels.
It’s a gorgeous effort – it’s no wonder that Asos is one of the most successful shops in the country when they cater for different body shapes this well. Check out our favourites in the gallery above now!

Bargain POTW, Celebrity Style
By Andrea Petrou on June 23rd, 2011

If you’ve got a fashion crush on Michelle Obama but think you’ll never be able to afford her style, then we’ve got some great news for you.
As we reported yesterday the First Lady visited South Africa for a meeting with Nelson Mandela bringing with her an impressive wardrobe consisting of her staple long coat and waisted belts.
However, she also had a little high street lovely snuggled in her closet and that came in the shape of this printed sleeveless oversized shirt from the Asos Africa collection, which she wore to play with South Africa’s children.
And the best news is that it’s only £35 meaning you don’t need a Presidential salary to afford it. We advise you get it now before the buying frenzy begins.

We at ShinyStyle can’t quite believe that we haven’t yet written anything about the new marketplace feature on online shopping superstore Asos.com. The basis behind Asos Marketplace is similar to that of Ebay or Etsy – put up your own fashion pieces for sale, with photographs and descriptions, and see if anyone bites. The difference between Marketplace and Ebay, though, is that Marketplace doesn’t leave you scrolling through pages and pages of crap from New Look in the early noughties just to find a pair of shoes that you think are sort of okay – designed and sold by young, fashion-conscious people, absolutely every piece sold on Marketplace is fashion gold.
Today we’re going to look at the online boutique store Never Fully Dressed, which specialises in sheer, floaty pieces that manage to be both pretty and edgy at the same time. Still hankering after one of the see-through, high-necked blouses that so many London girls favour at the moment, but don’t know where to get one? Never Fully Dressed sell a gorgeous one in assorted colours for under forty pounds – bargain. The boutique is choc-a-bloc full of separates and cool basics that will be amazing new must-haves for your spring wardrobe, and look great on a night out or dressed down with leggings and boots. Check the gallery below for our favourite items.

How gorgeous is this shirt dress? It would look dreamy with a pair of heels or toughened up with some biker boots.

Accessories, Christmas outfits, Gallery

The Christmas party season is definitely a fun one, but definitely a bit of a chore when it comes to reinventing old tried and true party outfits. (I’ve had to be extremely creative over the past few weeks vis-a-vis hair and accessories over the past couple of weeks in an attempt to stop people noticing I’m just wearing the same thing over and over.) What’s more, now is not the time for us normal people to go a bit bonkers and daring with our party outfits.
With Christmas drinks, carbohydrate binges and full days spent on the sofa eating at their annual peak, now is not the time to wear that amazing body-con dress that you’ve been wanting to wear out for ages – unless you’re Gisele or Elle McPherson, you’ll spent the whole evening in the corner self-consciously holding your handbag against your middle, trying to hide your winter tummy and worrying if your nude embellished tights do your legs any favours. I beg of you – this is the season that little black dresses and opaques were made for. Familiar? Yes. Done before? Maybe. Boring? Certainly not.
Don’t bother getting a new dress – spend your money on accessories instead that will give your wardrobe a whole new lease of life and have you party-ready in seconds. In the gallery below are ten of our favourite party shoes, from the cheap to the up-market – we especially love New Look’s scarlet silk heels, which wouldn’t look out of place at a 1930s cocktail party, and the stunning sci-fi-esque gold heels from Carvela. Whether you’re skint or loaded, if you shop at Primark or Jimmy Choo, there’s a shoe on this list to suit you.

Designer Fashions, designer pick of the week, Events, Gallery, London fashion week

Continuing on from our chat with fresh talent Georgia Hardinge, we next had a chat with Korean designer Lilee, whose delicate collection was my personal favourite out of all the ones that were shown at Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Lilee (centre in the photo below), whose talent has not gone unnoticed by the likes of Vogue, Elle and InStyle, made her London Fashion Week debut this season.
Lilee’s SS2011 collection was exquisite in its’ simplicity; crisp, pleated little dresses and separates with sharp collars in a neat palette of bright white, navy and greys that seemed to flutter playfully as the models went down the catwalk. A particular favourite of mine was the white midi-length dress towards the end of the collection with the sheer panelled top and geometric bustier. Minimalist heaven. Lilee herself was a pleasure to talk to; all tiny and pretty like a dress-up doll, I wanted to take her home and put her in my pocket.
SS: It’s a stunning collection that you’ve put together, my favourite of the day. What was the inspiration behind it?
LL: It all started with an old photo, a 1930s one, of a woman walking her dog. There was this great sense of spontanaeity and high energy coming off the picture, so much attitude and energy radiating from the woman. That’s what I wanted to communicate with this collection.
SS: When did you first realise you wanted to be a designer?
LL: I don’t really know.. [Smiles] My major was fashion design. I guess I just like making things.
SS: Who are your favourite designers at the moment?
LL: Let me see, that would have to be Jean-Paul Gaultier, definitely. And Ricardo Tisci.
Lilee will be releasing a capsule collection on ASOS.com, set to come online in early October.

Gallery, Swimwear

Yesterday we bought you a gallery of the hottest bikinis around and promised we’d be giving you a range of different swimwear options over the next few weeks.
First on our list are Tankinis. This style of swimwear made a huge entrance a few years ago and has been sported by many a celeb including Cheryl Cole and WAG Carly Zucker.
However they are also a favourite with girls who are slightly unhappy with their tums and feel awkward wearing a bikini but don’t want the restriction of a swimming costume.
We bring you our top 5.

Ethical Fashions

Not content with being one of our favourite online shopping spots Asos is pushing the fashion boat one step further.
It’s announced plans to launch an online marketplace for people to buy recyclable clothes and encourage us to shop in a more eco-friendly way.
The new site will let shopaholics trade their own clothes through a virtual online marketplace, and unlike auction sites such as Ebay all prices will be fixed. Asos will also give you advice on how to sell items and how to display them as well as watching out for counterfeit goods.
We can’t wait to give it a go when it launches later on this year.

Are you looking for that special piece of clothing to cheer you up after having to go back to work after the long Easter weekend?
If the answers yes, then we suggest you log onto Asos now.
Our favourite online store has announced it’s mid-season sale offering bargain hunters up to 50 per cent off brands including Miss Sixty, Carvela and Whistles.
However we suggest you get those credit cards out quickly because although the store hasn’t set a sale end date, the sale will end when stocks run out.
We have a feeling this won’t be too long.

We’ve seen a lot of funky and weird fashion this week over here at ShinyStyle, especially when it comes to Lady Gaga and some of the Oscar 2010 outfits. However, nothing beats this Care Bear outfit – not even Lady Gaga’s coke can roller.
We have to admit we did have to double check it wasn’t some kind of early April Fools joke when we saw it. But it’s not. It’s a real life Care Bear outfit!
However, unless you have an 80s cartoon fetish (good luck trying to get your other half into this), or are brave enough to wear this set, complete with a moulded care bear face hood and front rainbow design, out to the pub, we think this outfit is purely just for fancy dress.
Gather your friends and create an 80s themed party, complete with He-Man, My Little Pony and Thunder Cats. We’ll bring the party rings shall we?

The daffodils are blooming, the days are getting longer and the new fashion season is officially here. We’ll be putting spring in our step with some of the fantastic footwear hitting stores this month – in particular, our two new favourite styles, the clog and the midi heel.
Clogs were all over the catwalk, with designers including Betty Jackson, Chanel, PPQ and Felder and Felder all embracing the wooden shoe. Meanwhile, Prada, Marni, chloe and Missoni came over all kittenish with restrained mid-height sandals.
I’ve already extolled the virtues (and pitfalls) of both shoes here, so now it’s time to convince you with a selection of the high street’s finest. Kurt Geiger and ASOS have the best clogs we’ve seen, to bring a little Dutch charm to your denim and prairie dresses (see Alexa Chung for styling tips). Meanwhile, the midi heel is making an appearance in several guises; cone-shaped on sexy gladiator sandals, sturdy on simple pumps and in wedge form on 70s-inspired mumsie styles.
After several years of skyscraper heels and gladiator flats, these chunky and, dare we say it, sensible mid-height heels might be a shock to the system at first. But once you see how chic they look, we reckon you’ll be springing (or clumping) into the new season in style.
View our gallery below for our pick of the best spring footwear.

charity, Ethical Fashions
By Andrea Petrou on February 4th, 2010

We’re going down the charity and ethical fashion route today and next on our list of companies doing good deeds is Asos.
The online shop has launched Asos Africa, a clothing and accessories collection that has been designed, sourced and produced by community groups in Africa.
The range has some gorgeous pieces of clothing including funky jumpsuits and blazers all crafted using traditional African techniques.
And if that wasn’t enough to get you rushing to your PC, all the workers are also given training and fair pay.
