Blackheart Epic Coloured Faux Fur Coat
Fashion-lovers, there’s an incredibly soft and snuggly winter ahead of us as this season it’s going to be all about making like a wild beast and swathing yourself in layers of the softest, shaggiest fur you can find.
Plenty of designers took inspiration from animals this season, from confusing yet pretty fur strips among round iridescent sequins at Prada, while the Olsen girls used The Fantastic Mr Fox as a source of inspiration for their wild-looking draped furs which were teamed with crisp autumnal colours and stark make-up. Fur (faux, of course) always has and always will be an impossibly glamorous way to keep warm during the winter, but this season fur has a darker, moodier edge – think of coats that look like musky old animal skins and mythical creatures for this season.
Long distressed fur is one of our absolute favourite textures for this season, so if you find the perfect shaggy coat or bag, don’t walk past it. These heavy, animalistic textures are all about making a big statement, so just one piece will give your stark winter wardrobe an automatic update. We’re a huge fan of Blackheart’s coats, which you can find at Asos and in the gallery above – especially their deep plum-coloured fur coat that would look amazing with a simple black dress and dark makeup for a dramatic winter look.
If you’re keen on making a bold statement you should consider spurning realistic faux furs for something a little brighter for a dramatic, unusual look – we are absolutely in love with Ana Konda’s designs for Asos, which include some amazing bright scarlet furs. Check them out – they’d look incredible with bright lipstick.
If you’re hesitant to go all-out and deck yourself out like a wild animal, however, you can still channel the trend with a furry accessory or a piece with a simple fur trim without needing to go the whole hog. River Island is brilliant for fur collars, bags and shoes – we seriously recommend that you stop by their site to see what they’ve got.
To see our favourite fur pieces on the high street, check out the gallery above.

Ted Baker Orchid Print Jersey Maxi Dress
I love the minimal/eastern influences of this Ted Baker maxi. Pretty much all it needs is a pair of ballerina flats and some chandelier earrings to make this look fashion-perfect.
Maxi dresses have been in style for a while now, and their appeal doesn’t seem to be waning as we move from Summer into the Autumn/Winter fashion season. But in the winter you can’t rock those dreamy, floaty-hippy vibes in your maxi that you did in the summer – it’s just the wrong time of year. If you want to keep wearing floor-sweeping dresses then you’re going to need a new winter maxi.
In the winter, longer lengths are going to be great for keeping warm, especially longer-sleeved dresses with thick tights. It’s quite a grungey look, which is in at the moment so you don’t have to worry about looking like you’re wearing your nan’s old house-dress. The best way to brave the cold (and snow) in a maxi is to team it with ribbed tights, a slouchy cardigan worn under a biker jacket with some chunky boots for stomping the pavements. Et voila! One hot fashion look, built around your winter maxi.
Our absolute top pick has to be Ted Baker’s orchid printed dress, which we found on the Asos site today. High-necked and long sleeved with an eastern floral-printed skirt, it’s a really elegant piece that you could wear either in the day or the evening if you use some clever styling.
Check out the gallery above for our top 5 Autumn/Winter maxi dresses.

Marlene Birger Cropped Burgundy Sweater
I'm dreaming of the perfect cropped jumper for this Autumn - and I think I just found it at My-Wardrobe.com. It looks soooo soft, and burgundy is a perfect colour for this Autumn.
Yay, that time of the week has rolled around again when I get to do my absolute favourite post – my weekly wishlist of dream fashion buys. This week I’m focusing mainly on Autumn/Winter essentials for those pieces that will make your wardrobe perfect for the new season.
What I want most in the world right now is the perfect jumper for this season – something in a jewel colour in a soft, snuggly fabric that I can wear with absolutely everything. I was lucky enough to come across Marlene Birger’s cropped burgundy sweater, which just looks so soft and fluffy that I want to rub my cheek against it. It’s expensive, at over a hundred pounds, but maybe the perfect jumper is enough of a classic to make the investment a smart one.
Another item very very high on my wishlist is Oasis’ leather skater skirt, which is just so perfect I could die. It will go with pretty much everything, whether you want to wear a T-shirt and flats or a pretty blouse with heels. If I get it I’m just going to have to remember to not overdo the sex-pot look with the rest of my outfit – the last time I wore double leather I found myself attracting a lot of trouble.
The piece that has to get the hot top-spot this week, however, has to be Asos’ fur collar coat in a leopard print. I’m totally loving the girlish look of collared coats at the moment, especially with a smidge of faux fur to add extra glamour. After all, no-one wants to look drab in the winter time, do they? That would be just terrible.
If you wanna see what’s on Shiny’s fashion wishlist this week, check out the gallery above.

Burberry Prorsum
A double-breasted trench coat in a caper green that hits the spot.
Even though it’s only the end of August, it’s getting colder in the UK and all of my lazy-student instincts are telling me to go and get under the covers and sleep until winter is over.
I have to say, I hate the cold weather, with a passion – I am definitely a summer girl. So one of my little pick-me-ups when summer is over is to start planning new, fashionable ways to wrap up warm, and nothing can update or transform an outfit like a pair of great fashion tights or socks.
Marc Jacobs used a lot of polka dot hosiery in his Autumn/Winter collection, something that the high street has picked up on and copied. For a girlish Minnie Mouse look, team a pastel-coloured midi skirt with Asos’ nude polka-dotted ankle socks with a pair of high heels in the milder months – when it gets colder, go for a pair of polka-dot tights instead.
Another sexy hosiery trend is the sex-siren look that we saw on the fetish-inspired catwalk of Louis Vuitton, where it was all about peekaboo black underwear with tight corsetry, fur and terrifying heels. Asos have an amazing pair of 40s-style seamed stocking with tiny sparkle details on them for a pin-up feel. Just wear them with a leather skirt and a prim blouse and you’ve got a sizzling hot fashion look to go.
Or if you just want to keep your tootsies warm during the evenings, try a cute pair of statement socks – we absolutely adore Urban Outfitter’s lace mohair ankle socks, which are just so pretty and feminine.
Check out the gallery above to see our favourite tights and socks for this Autumn.

Jessie J wore a quirky lilac-fringed bodysuit for her performance at V Festival
If you’re sad that summer is pretty much over now and you’d like to cling on to your louche, festival-style outfits as much longer as possible, it’s worth taking note of the summer’s fringing trend which will happily still be wearable when winter comes. We spotted more than a couple of artists rocking the trend at V Festival over the weekend, as Jessie J wore a quirky eighties-inspired bodysuit with purple fringed sleeves for a dramatic take on dancewear and Katy B teamed black skinny jeans and a band T-shirt with her fringed black cardigan for a 70s hard rock look.
Wild West-influenced styles are huge for this Autumn/Winter, a look that fringing and tasselled pieces will fit into nicely. For wrapping up warm you could try Urban Outfitter’s amazing plaid hooded cape with tassels (checks and tartan are massive this season too) and team with a little dress and opaque tights for a snug and chic back-to-school look. Or if you want to go a bit more down the evening-wear route try a showgirl-style fringed dress like the amazingly sexy dip-dyed red one that we found at Rare – big earrings and some simple high-heeled sandals will make you look like a glamorous heiress.
Of course, if you’re tentative when it comes to the idea of head-to-toe fringing and can’t get the image of Dolly Parton out of your head, a simple fringed bag or accessory can add a touch of laidback bohemian cool to an outfit. We love ASOS’ black fringed hoop earrings – so Edie Sedgwick.
Check out the gallery for our favourite fringed pieces on the high street.

Diane Von Fustenberg Autumn/Winter 2011
Colour is always a daunting aspect of fashion for me – as an ex-goth I still find myself dressing head to toe in black out of comfort, too scared to try anything more adventurous. But this season I think I might be able to get on board with colour. In the spring, thanks to Jil Sander it was all about eye-watering bright, almost fluorescent colour – no thanks, not for me – but this season all the designers are working with rich, sultry jewel colours of emerald, blue, turquoise, purple and ruby red. Mmm. There’s just enough dark glamour in this trend to give me the confidence to try it out..
This is one of the biggest trends this season, as opulent jewel colours were literally everywhere. Diane Von Fustenberg, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Pucci.. all the big names’ collections were showcasing these colours. I’m particularly interested in how DVF presented the trend – the models wore contrasting jewel tones of green and blue head to toe for a dramatic, glamorous and vintage look.
There is quite a retro feel about these colours, whether you want to be a 70s siren or a 1940s beauty. A good way to work the trend is a deep, bold pair of wide-legged trousers in dark red or green – team with a slippery silk shirt and red lipstick and you’ve got yourself one strong look already.
The high street is totally behind the jewel trend already – hooray! Check out the gallery above to see our favourite pieces.

Warehouse Multi Silk Bird Print Dress
We absolutely love the '40s style and elegant bird print of this dress from Warehouse - it's so similar to the dresses seen on the Miu Miu catwalk, and it's only £65.
I don’t know about you, Fashion Week lovers, but for me one of the ultimate highlights of the Autumn/Winter shows was Miu Miu’s 30s and 40s inspired collection of wrap dresses and coats. And it seems that celebrities feel the same way as I do – everyone wants to get their hands on the collection’s key piece, the elegant bird-patterned wrap dress. Hailee Steinfeld and Michelle Williams have already been papped wearing dresses from the show. You can get the real deal (pictured left) and shop the collection at Net-a-porter.com if you’re a squillionaire, but sadly most of us aren’t.
Why do I love Miu Miu’s Autumn/Winter bird printed dress so much? As a lover of vintage fashion and designs that celebrate the female shape, this dress ticks every single box to me – I love the Oriental vibe of the shimmering birds against sultry dark fabrics, which combined with the classic twisted tea-dress shape give a wink to old Hollywood glamour.
To own the real thing is the dream for me – but until then I will happily settle for Warehouse’s gorgeous high-street version, priced at £65, which is extremely similar to the designer version. Check out the dress in the gallery above – we’ve also included a few suggestions of ways to wear the dress. Thankyou, British high street.

White Print Fur Coat
Thanks to this season's love for a mixture of tactile fabrics, fur is still on the hot list. This white animal print fur coat is from River Island.
There’s nothing that gets me in the mood for Autumn’s arrival than a brand spanking new snuggly, warm coat – luckily the coat is a key piece this season for channelling the Autumn/Winter trends.
On the Burberry Prorsum catwalk it was all about cute duffel coats in cheerfully bright shades of orange, blue, red and yellow, with leather detailing – luckily Topshop has already released a postbox-red coat that’s really similar to the ones seen at Burberry. Just team with a sixties miniskirt and a Breton top and you’ve got a classic look that’s good to go. Another colourful favourite was Asos’ bright and shiny blue rainmac, which is both chic and practical – it’ll look adorable with tights, a tea dress and some retro ankle boots.
Other designers went for a more mad, all-over-the-place approach to mixing textiles and print this season – if you want to get in on this season’s incredibly chic “mad bag lady” look (one I’ve been rocking for years now, I might add) then a tactile or patterned coat is a good place to start. At River Island we loved their white animal-printed fur coat, which could look cool clashing with floral or other animal prints, while at Asos it was all about their thrift-style Aztec printed coat.
If it’s the slick and sensual dominatrix look that you’re after, however, as seen at Louis Vuitton, then try out Topshop for their amazing belted mac. Clever Toppers have updated a classic by adding a leather collar and sleeves for a fetish feel. Wear with a simple black dress and patent heels for a look that’s good to go.
Check out our top 5 Autumn/Winter coats in the gallery above.

Nishe Jewel Pussybow Blouse
We love this opulent jewel-printed blouse - so on trend! Wear with a maxi skirt and some huge earrings for a dramatic look. Find it Asos.
One of the absolute staples that you will definitely need this autumn is one of my favourites: the blouse. Pussybow, sheer, printed or oversized – they’re absolutely key for your Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Pick the right one and it’ll see you the whole way through to the next year.
Marc Jacobs, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Jonathan Saunders all included feminine, old-fashioned blouses that walked the line between austere and sexy in their collections. We were especially big fans of Jonathan Saunders’ jewel-coloured silk high-necked blouses, which, teamed with a skinny pencil skirt and heels, were glorious. If you want to kill two trends with one stone then opt for one in an unusual, quirky print, as pattern and shape are the two absolute key words for this season.
Our favourites? Personally, I’m a big fan of American Apparel’s illustration-print blouses and Topshop’s quirky 60s pastel-pink blouse with a peter pan collar (you know how I’m a sucker for anything disgustingly retro). Check out the gallery for our favourite blouses from the high street.

Peacock in Paradise Brooch

Donna Karan Autumn/Winter 2011
I’m a very happy bunny right now, as one of my absolute favourite looks is going to be totally massive this season – and that is full on old Hollywood detective-movie 1940s glamour, complete with jewels and furs. Today I’m concentrating on the jewels – some beautiful antique-look costume jewellery can make even the simplest of outfits glamorous and on-trend.
Designers such as Gucci, Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs were all over the look on the catwalk, teaming sumptuous furs and nipped-at-the-waist tweed with darkly glittering gems and jewels to match the models’ lips. For costume jewellery, I’m a massive fan of the site
GlitzySecrets, whose jewellery designs look like they should cost a thousand pounds per piece – but they don’t, as you can get a piece of timeless vintage-inspired jewellery for £15.
Whether you’re a lover or not of a head-to-toe vintage look, it doesn’t matter as some simple 1940s-style costume jewellery can make a simple black maxi dress or a skirt and top look dramatic – and make an outfit look a lot more expensive than it actually is. Along with GlitzySecret’s beautiful jewellery, it’s also worth checking charity shops as they often sell lovely second-hand pieces.
Check out the gallery above for our favourite bits and bobs from GlitzySecrets.

See by Chloe Fringed Buckle Ankle Boots
These boots are expensive but worth the money if you can afford it - wear with a 90s sundress and shades for a cool New York look. They're sold at Urban Outfitters.
The one thing I’m desperate to get my hands on for the next season is a really great pair of ankle boots; I’ve been wearing the same brown leather chelseas for the past two years and they have quite literally fallen to bits. But thanks to boot-lovers like Alexa Chung, the trend is alive and well and there are some really gorgeous pairs on the high street.
What I love about ankle boots is their absolute versatility. A black patent pair or some brogue-style boots with a cuban heel can be worn during the day with a pretty tea dress or skinny jeans, but also worn with a mini-dress in the evening for a cool and youthful party look.
My absolute wishlist pair are the See by Chloe ankle boots on the Urban Outfitters site, made out of contrasting tan and dark brown leather with fringing and buckle details. Unfortunately they are incredibly expensive -so I think I’ll have to settle for a studded pair from Topshop (it’s a hard life).
Check out the gallery above for our top 10 ankle boot picks.

Designers like Marc Jacobs (pictured) and Stella McCartney were all over the polka dot trends this Autumn/Winter
It’s a big hooray from me as one of my absolute favourite trends is back again for this Autumn/Winter – this season it is all about bold graphic prints, specifically the polka dot, as seen on the catwalks at Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney.
I love polka dots because they can be either sexy or girl-next-door depending on how they’re worn. Want to be a ’50s sex siren? Team a sheer spotted pussybow blouse with a hip-hugging pencil skirt and stilettos for a fiercely sexy look, or look for vintage-style sundresses and skirts for a look that’s girlier.
In the past polka dots have been small, dainty prints, but on the catwalks this year they’ve gotten bigger, bolder and more graphic. If you want to copy Marc Jacobs’ severe secretary style, Asos does an amazing black and white pillbox hat that is almost exactly the same as the one seen on his runway. We also love River Island’s sixties-style polka printed tunic – just team it with a jewel bright duffel coat and some sharp ankle boots for a look that’s perfectly on trend this season.
Check out the gallery above for our favourite polka-dot lovelies.

Marc Jacobs included hard pill-box hats for vintage mystery in his Autumn/Winter 2011 show
If you’re looking forward to planning your new A/W wardrobe then buying a few new accessories is a great place to start – and Mr. Marc Jacobs’ recent Autumn/Winter ’11 with it’s prim skirt-suits and 194os pillbox hats have got us coming over all wistful for an era we were never in. Luckily stores are already cottoning on to wartime-style fashions, so it’s time to get nostalgic with some vintage inspired headgear.
Hats are a huge part of this year’s Autumn/Winter dressing, as the season’s fashion heroine is a mysterious femme fatale who knows her stuff about tailoring – a good dramatic hat can add mystery and old Hollywood glamour to any outfit.
There are a few good pillbox-style pieces already available on the high street, though we reckon there will be more to come. If you can’t find a style at the moment that tickles your fancy you could also opt for a fascinator headband – lots of high street stores such as Lipsy and RockNRose are already making bands complete with large flower detailing and veils.
Check out the gallery above for our favourite pillbox hats and fascinators.

Lady Gaga was spotted in NYC rocking the new season's 40s-inspired ladylike trend in a houndstooth skirt suit with matching accessories - we've never seen the singer look so demure
We were happily surprised to see this photograph of Madam Gaga’s take on Autumn/Winter’s 1940s-inspired ladylike trend (pictured above) – she’s been seen spotted out in NYC in a head-to-toe houndstooth Salvatore Ferragamo ensemble nipped in at the waist for a vintage feel. When the first lady of quirky fashion is all over a trend, you know it’s time to get in on the action.
Naturally we wouldn’t recommend you tackle the trend in quite the same way as Gaga, who unsurprisingly added a few of her bizarre fashion twists to make the look her own. She may be able to wear houndstooth sunglasses, but thats because she has minders to walk her everywhere – attempt that particular accessory and you will walk into a wall. The rest of it though is a solid look, and we’ve compiled a gallery of our favourite affordable ladylike pieces on the high street.
This trend is all about the feminine silhouette and opulent fabrics such as silk and brocade – perfect for girls who have a good waist. Belted tweed blazers, silk pussybow blouses and ladylike costume jewellery are an easy way to wear the trend and could be worn either in the day or the night.
What do you think of Gaga’s new look? Do you love it, or prefer her more risqué style? Let us know in the comments below, and check out the gallery above so that you can steal her style.

Poltock Walsh for Asos Silk Maxi
Maxis are still a big deal this Autumn/Winter - if you're not a fan of its hippy/boho connotations then opt for this elegant silk maxi.
There are two main fashion camps that you’ll feel the pressure to fall into come this Autumn/Winter: will you take your inspiration from the likes of Givenchy and Meadham Kirchoff and turn yourself into a peculiar, cat-lady rainbow of oddities, or will you keep things sleek, modern and minimal in muted palettes and clean shapes? I know that I’ll be straying into definite cat-lady territory this year, but minimalism isn’t to be sniffed at – sometimes keeping things simple can have a dramatic effect, as the likes of Lara Stone and Diane Kruger are always proving.
Luckily, you don’t need a hot-shot actress’ salary to get in on the action as this is on trend that the high street is wholeheartedly embracing. Asos in particular is an excellent source for simple, clean and modern designs – we were especially wowed by a Poltock Walsh for Asos silk maxi dress in soft grey silk, which could look equally amazing worn with heels and jewellery at night or a slouchy blazer during the day.
However, accessory-lovers beware. This is a trend that requires careful styling – too little could look frumpy, too much will definitely look ridiculous. Do not cancel out your outfit’s clean simplicity by emptying your entire jewellery box over yourself. Instead, seek out pieces that will work on their own to compliment your look – Topshop has some brilliant cuff bracelets and futuristic-style earrings that could set off a minimalistic outfit wonderfully.
Have a look through the gallery above for our favourite pieces rocking the trend on the high street.
