ShinyStyle loves: Fringed fashion

Jessie J wore a quirky lilac-fringed bodysuit for her performance at V Festival

If you’re sad that summer is pretty much over now and you’d like to cling on to your louche, festival-style outfits as much longer as possible, it’s worth taking note of the summer’s fringing trend which will happily still be wearable when winter comes. We spotted more than a couple of artists rocking the trend at V Festival over the weekend, as Jessie J wore a quirky eighties-inspired bodysuit with purple fringed sleeves for a dramatic take on dancewear and Katy B teamed black skinny jeans and a band T-shirt with her fringed black cardigan for a 70s hard rock look.

Wild West-influenced styles are huge for this Autumn/Winter, a look that fringing and tasselled pieces will fit into nicely. For wrapping up warm you could try Urban Outfitter’s amazing plaid hooded cape with tassels (checks and tartan are massive this season too) and team with a little dress and opaque tights for a snug and chic back-to-school look. Or if you want to go a bit more down the evening-wear route try a showgirl-style fringed dress like the amazingly sexy dip-dyed red one that we found at Rare – big earrings and some simple high-heeled sandals will make you look like a glamorous heiress.

Of course, if you’re tentative when it comes to the idea of head-to-toe fringing and can’t get the image of Dolly Parton out of your head, a simple fringed bag or accessory can add a touch of laidback bohemian cool to an outfit. We love ASOS’ black fringed hoop earrings – so Edie Sedgwick.

Check out the gallery for our favourite fringed pieces on the high street.

ShinyStyle’s top 5 “back to school” satchels

Pink Max C Satchel Bag

This rose-coloured beauty is amazing - I'm planning to buy it and move all of my things into it immediately. Find it at Fashion Union.

We’re already halfway through the summer holidays now, and while that might not mean much to those of you working a job all the year round, it means that Autumn is just a few weeks away – and that means that back-to-school feeling of new tights, new coats and smart new bags.

I’m starting my degree in London in a month’s time and I’ve decided to blue a bit of my student loan on a beautiful new satchel to keep all of my drawing bits and sketchbooks in. You should think about a new bag for yourself too – who doesn’t crave that new-term, new-things feeling that comes with the change of seasons?

Luckily you don’t need to go straight to Mulberry with your life savings for a good satchel (though of course it is tempting), as nearly all the high-street stores are still producing high-quality affordable bags in the Alexa style.

Shiny’s personal favourite? The dusky rose-coloured satchel from Fashion Union, which will go with pretty much everything I own and hopefully integrate perfectly into the new Autumn/Winter outfit I can’t afford to buy myself. Check out the gallery above for our top 5 satchels on the high street.

Paris Hilton arrested on coke charges. We look at her life so far

By Andrea Petrou on August 31st, 2010

It seems Paris Hilton is  following in the footsteps of Lindsay Lohan.

The socialite was arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine late last week and was detained by police in Las Vegas after they pulled over a car in which she was a passenger. Cops are said to have found a suspicious-looking white powder in Hilton’s purse, which was tested and allegedly proved to be cocaine. The hotel heiress was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Centre, where she was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

However, the star, which also served time in jail in 2007 on a DUI charge, isn’t taking the charges lightly.
Asked whose cocaine was in the purse, Hilton told police she “had not seen it” and thought it was chewing-gum, according to a police report.

Hilton also told police she had borrowed the purse and that the cosmetics did not belong to her, though the asthma medication, cash, credit cards and Zig-Zag wrappers were hers.

She’s also taken the claims one step further claiming the the bag or purse containing the drug was not expensive enough to be hers and that a friend had lent it to her.

If convicted she could get anything from probation to four years in prison and a fine of £3,233.

Her lawyer, David Chesnoff, encouraged people “not to rush to judgement until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law,” according to a statement released to US media.

We look right back to when the star first started out.

Scarlett Johansson designs a bag for Mango to help victims of the Haiti earthquake

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010

We’re more than used to hearing about celebrities designing clothes and accessories for different stores, but we get really excited when they’re doing it for charity.

Stepping in to this category is Scarlett Johansson who has designed a bag for Mango and all profits raised will go directly to Oxfam to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Of her collaboration with the store she currently models for, Scarlett said: ‘I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Mango to promote conscious consumerism and to benefit Oxfam’s Haiti Earthquake Response Fund. By purchasing this bag, you are helping to provide life saving assistance like clean water to the people of Haiti.’

The bag, which will be sold in Mango stores for £16.90, has the message ‘Helping the people of Haiti’, plus the actress’s signature beside a print depicting an ancient map of the country.

We’ll be bagging ourselves one of these as soon as they hit the shelves in March.

Designer Pick of the Week: Dolce & Gabbana framed leather handbag

By Andrea Thatcher on February 26th, 2008

This Dolce & Gabbana framed leather handbag is technically part of their spring offerings, but I love it for fall. The soft brown sort of modernizes the gray tones we’ve been seeing and the black trim makes it a neutral fit for any outfit. Though, at $2,175 I doubt anyone who could afford it would be caught dead in a spring ’08 bag next fall. More like spring ’09.

One thing that makes me dry heave? The thought of people wearing it with the matching shoes!

It goes with everything. It’s conservative enough to wear to the office or out to a swanky restaurant for dinner. This is the must-have Gucci bag this fall, even if it is $1,150.
