Marc Jacobs to become the subject of a new exhibition

By Andrea Petrou on May 17th, 2011

Marc Jacobs is to become the subject of a new exhibition.

The designer’s work for Louis Vuitton – where he has been creative director since 1997 – will be honoured at Paris’ Les Arts Decoratifs in a display, which will also pay tribute to the French fashion house’s eponymous designer, who started out his career as a trunkmaker in 1854.

The museum’s curator plans to showcase two different periods in the label’s history – the industrial revolution of the 19th Century and the globalisation of contemporary fashion and it is thought to take place next year.

Jacobs is very proud of his work and recently revealed he will only put his name on things he believes in.

He said: “If we didn’t believe in what we did, then I would feel that we sold out. As long as we do things with integrity and believe in them and are passionate, I don’t think we’ve sold out. Whether it’s an $11 flip-flop or a $2 key ring or a $2,000 dress, they’re all done with integrity. They’re all done with a design sense. As long as the creativity exists, then I don’t think it’s a sell-out. A sell-out is putting your name on any piece of c**p and then expecting people to buy it because it’s got your name on it. That’s what a sell-out is to me.”

Top five fringed looks for SS2011

By Andrea Petrou on April 14th, 2011

As we told you earlier on today, fringing is back with a vengeance. It made an appearance on Louis Vuitton, House of Holland and Mark Fast catwalks covering bags and coats as well as hanging off dresses.
Therefore it’s no surprise that the highstreet is buzzing with these designs from shoes to suits.
The key rule with this trend is to keep it simple.

A fringed top and skirt won’t work, so instead select one item of clothing with this detailing and accessorise with plain jewellery and if you’re feeling daring add a fringed bag or sandals. Just over do it. The fringe look may be in but the cowboy one went out a while ago.

View the gallery below for some of our fringed faves.

Katie Holmes collaborates with Italian design house Valextra to create a luxury bag.

By Andrea Petrou on March 25th, 2011

Katie Holmes has collaborated with Italian design house Valextra to create a luxury bag.

The actress and her Holmes & Yang fashion label co-founder Jeanne Yang will launch two versions of the calfskin tote, one in white and navy and the other white and black, which will retail for $3,950, in July.

Speaking about Valextra, Katie told WWD: “Their quality is exceptional. There’s such integrity in their work – they’re artists.”

Valextra CEO Emanuele Carminati Molina revealed the company were delighted to team up with Katie and Jeanne because they admire the “simple but chic” style of Holmes & Yang.

He explained: “This was our first collaboration [and it's been] really incredible. We decided to follow the desires of Katie and Jeanne who wanted to have their own bag realised by Valextra. Because they love our products…and we wanted to see, and understand which style they were wearing. We understood that the style is simple but very chic, clean lines, sophisticated, with a lot of attention to the details. I knew that it was good for Valextra to try, and to mix our style with their style.”

The entire design process only took two weeks with Katie meeting with the Valextra team when she visited Milan for Fashion Week in February.

Black will always be chic, as will bows and a bit of sparkle. This clutch purse may look designer but it's actually a bargain from Accessorize.

Three days to go until Christmas Eve – festive decadence is in full swing, and I’m finding it very difficult to not look for every excuse under the sun to spend money on party outfits. If, like me, you’ve got a bit of a shopping itch from buying for other people, and not for yourself, then you might be in need of a little sparkly something to perk you up. Doctor Shiny prescribes a little clutch purse that will breathe new life into any tired old party outfit and perk you up – any of our recommended top 10 (above) will put a fashion spring in your step.

LFW Highlights: Mulberry

By Andrea Petrou on September 21st, 2010

Mulberry decided to put not one, but two shows on for LFW week this season and finished with a party that attracted A-list fashionistas such as Alexa Chung.

And the designer kept the same theme displayed at its NYFW week show, which emitted a dreamy, springtime mood. Pale auburn-haired girls floated down the rose garden decorated catwalk in satin pink skirts and sky blue tie dye dresses, which gave a nod to the 80s and the romantic era.

However, the designer also gave us a few sassy creations including a multicoloured animal print dress and a beige skirt, which resembled the roses on the catwalk.

And of course lets not forget the bags, which came in all shapes and sizes from totes, to shoulder to satchels.

We’re not ashamed to admit we let ourselves drawl a teeny tiny bit over these.

By Andrea Petrou on April 1st, 2010

Nicole richie.jpg

Nicole Richie has grown from the quiet girl we all once knew as Paris Hilton’s “friend” in the Simple Life, carving out a name for herself in the fashion world.

She’s built up her Winter Kate successful clothing range as well as venturing into the world of jewellery with her House of Harlow brand, which she named after her first daughter.

However, it seems Nicole isn’t happy to rest on these designing laurels.

According to WWD the pint sized celebrity is adding a range of handbags to her House of Harlow brand. And fan’s of Nicole’s personal style will be thrilled as we are to hear the collection are “‘very, very, very Nicole.”

We can’t wait to get a sneak peak of the range.

First looks: Sneak Preview of One-Off Henry Holland Print

By Andrea Petrou on March 29th, 2010

Bag Competition Final Design.jpg
Sit down ladies because we’ve got a treat that will cheer you up on this gloomy Monday morning.

Debenhams has given us a sneak preview of a one-off print created by Henry Holland, featuring the faces of winning entrants to a competition.

The highstreet store has been searching for the faces of Henry Holland’s next exclusive design to be used on a handbag and scarf for the Autumn H! By Henry Holland range. And the winners were chosen by Mr H himself.

We love the new designs, which are a funky purple, black and white composite of the winners’ photos on a newspaper background, sporting slogan headlines such as, “The IT crowd” and “Beauty and the street”. And although we weren’t lucky enough to get our faces on the items, it won’t put us off buying them when they hit stores in July.

If you can’t wait that long check out the designer’s current range at Debenhams now.

Armani relaunches it’s website

By Andrea Petrou on February 4th, 2010
Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture S/S 2010 - Giorgio Armani Prive - Runway

With the cold weather continuing to bite and the rain not looking like its going to pass anytime soon, heading out the the highstreet isn’t looking too appealing.

In the past many of us have coped by buying the latest fashions from one of the huge range of online stores.

However, for those who like the designer delights of Bond Street, choices have been limited, until now that is.

Armani has just relaunched its website, bringing all it’s collections together and offering the chance to buy some beauty and fashion items as well as watches and branded mobile phones online.

Log onto the site and you’ll find Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, Armani Collezioni, Armani Jeans, Armani Exchange, Armani Junior and Armani Casa.

And you’ll also be able to view and comment on the collections through a dedicated Facebook page and YouTube channel.

We think this is a genius idea, but we think we may have to find an equally clever place to hide our purses and credit cards.

Lulu Guinness launches lip themed pop up shop to coincide with Valentines day

By Andrea Petrou on January 28th, 2010

Lulu.jpg
We’ve been trying to stay off the subject of Valentines Day until next week where we’ll be bringing you a range of love stories, underwear ranges and present ideas.

However, we couldn’t wait to tell you about Lulu Guinness’s lip-themed pop up shop, which will be making cameo move into London’s Carnaby Street from 8 February to coincide with Valentine’s Day and London Fashion Week.

Amongst a range of Lulu goodies, you’ll be able to get your hands on her sought after Lip Clutch bags, and you’ll be also doing a good deed.

A percentage of all the sales from Lulu’s Lip clutch bags will also go towards creating bursaries to support students studying the historical and contemporary practice of fashion.

But you better get there quickly as the shop will only be lingering around until 22 Febuary.

ShinyStyle’s new editor

By Andrea Petrou on August 14th, 2009

andrea.jpgHi fellow fashionistas

I’m Andrea, the new editor of ShinyStyle. As a girl obsessed with all that glitters, sparkles, or even just has zips or buttons, I’m looking forward to bringing you all the news on the latest fashions.

And it’s not just clothes. Oh no, we’ll be talking about everything from bags, shoes, make up and accessories from the highstreet to high end.

Let’s admit it, we all love a bit of Primark (yes, I hold my hands up, my top in this picture is one such creation) as much as we adore Anna Sui and coo over Chanel.

I’ll also be bringing you the latest on celeb trends, which although look great most of the time, will sometimes also have an (almost gratifying) element of “what was she thinking?”

But who am I to judge? I’ll let you into a little secret, I too have made mistakes in the past. Think multi coloured tights teamed with a similar style dress, and no I wasn’t going to a 70′s club night. Oh dear.

I would love to hear more about you too so please get in touch via our comments and let me know about your favourite outfit, whether it’s Primark or Prada, and your worst fashion mistake. Come on, don’t be shy, we’re all fashion friends now.
