Looks like we’ll have more accessories to lust after at J.Crew as they unveil their extended assortment and a new accessories-only catalog this Friday.
The assortment also includes the new J.Crew fine jewelry collection. These pieces are a bit more formal (and expensive) than the costume jewelry line.
To get an idea of the prices, a 10-karat gold boule ring with pearl is $495 and a ribbon-tied long pearl necklace is $200.
“This is our first foray into fine jewelry,” Creative Director Jenna Lyons Mazeau told WWD. “We want to be approachable.”
The new variety of bags, shoes, and jewelry is already available on J.Crew.com.
Zara from our U.K. team of writers recently reviewed Mojo handbags, and found some really cool bags to show off. We thought you might like to see them too!
Keris over at TheBagLady drew our attention to this Marc Jacobs bag-on-bag combo, $2,100. What do we think, yay or nay? I believe this raises a larger fashion philosophical question – does the fact that it’s Marc Jacobs ensure that it’s a yay? After his spring collection, some people are changing their tunes on that issue. What about you? Little purse sewed onto a big purse – yay or nay?
Lorae answers Kori with another question: “What works for you? Match is a relative term,” Lorae said. “Compliment and coordinate. If this is not easy, matching is a good rule. It keeps things simple and easy in a fast-paced world.”

You can still order stylish stocking stuffers at Free People to get them in time for Christmas. And with the code LASTMINUTE the shipping is free, so that, you know, you can afford stocking stuffers that don’t come from CVS in the first place. We chose some sparkly bangles , $18, perfect for New Year’s Eve when all ostentatious and overbearing accessories must be dragged out and worn all at once. In the middle is the tinsel stranded headband , $24, to help your friends/sister/cool mom maintain her do in the blustry winter winds of late. And lastly a cute cozy wristlet for $38.
No, this outfit isn’t for me. It’s for Andrea Osiek who needs a fabulous outfit for a big New Year’s Eve party. We’ll get over our jealousy that her husband takes ballroom dancing lessons with her, because she needs a low-rent get up because of medical expense (hope everything goes well!). She really doesn’t want to spend very much and wants to use pieces from her existing wardrobe, so we tried to keep some part of the ensemble basic and let others speak louder. We started with a little black dress which Andrea probably already has in her closet. If not, this one is from Isaac Mizrahi for Target and is on sale for $29.99. For the rest of the outfit, keep reading.
This floral vinyl tote with braided rope drawstring and handles is $28.80 at Forever 21. What do you think? Is is trend-right for spring with the floral motif, or does it kind of look like one of those “designer trash bags” that have prints on them? Yay or Nay?
Reader Barbara wrote in to our 10 Outfits for 10 Occasions contest for advice to a common problem. She loves her strappy heels, especially when dressing up for New Year’s Eve, but feels uncomfortable when she’s taller than her boyfriend. Luckily there is no shortage of fancy flats out there this holiday season. So, while we concentrate on a Miu Miu pair as part of our outfit, we’ll also give you options at a few different price points. Barbara mentioned sequined cocktail dresses, so we chose this Stenay sequin dress from Nordstrom for $228 to start off this outfit.
We’ve languished over the fact that we rarely have anywhere resorty to go that would require any sort of resort wardrobe, but now we’re getting over it and making the best. We’ve chosen the top 10 resort pieces to wear right where you live – to work, to parties, out on the town. We’ve even found some pieces that will help you keep cozy in colder climes. I’m sure somewhere a doyenne on the upper east side is rolling her eyes that we would concieve wearing resort fashions anywhere other than Biarritz, but so be it.
We love this Prada bag for anywhere any time of year. The leather tote, available at select Saks Fifth Avenue stores, could double as a carry on if you like to look chic in-flight or on the road, and has just enough structure to pull off at the office. We adore the green, but if we were going to spend $1,495, we’d want it in black.
This B. Fendi canvas metallic trim medium bag is made from smooth woven ivory canvas with metallic gold leather trim. With aged brass hardware, two oversized metallic buckels and a flap closure, it’s the perfect mix of hardcore hardware mixed with shiny happy gold metallic embellishment. Tough enough for trecking the urban jungle to work, yet sweet enough to accessorize a breezy chiffon dress. It features metallic leather shoulder straps with aged brass chain links and a slight gathering to create that oh-so-popular ruching effect. Make it yours (if you can afford it!) for $1,580.00 at eluxury.com.
