We love shopping green, but it’s a hard row to hoe! (Like that? Gardening reference in a GREEN article. Gosh we’re funny.) If you want to try things on, as in not shop online, you have to seek out expensive lines and city boutiques. So we’re super excited that Banana Republic is bringing more sustainable fashion to the mall.
Plus, when it’s BR, you know it’s not going to be too hippy dippy, and that the quality will be good. They describe it as eco-chic meets weekend chic. Items in the line will include the Classic Novelty Gaucho, Silk Explorer Shirt, Long Embroidered Strapless Dress, Short Sleeve Jamie Pocket Tee and Cargo Khaki Bloomer.
Much ado is being made about the new look of Banana Republic for spring 2009. With Simon Kneen on board as design and creative director, descriptors like modern silhouettes, upgraded fabrics and refined experience have been teasing customers with the lure of a higher-fashion aesthetic for the BR dollar.
I headed to the Banana Republic site to make a birthday suggestion or two to the hubby (love this necklace, sweetie, xoxo thx!) and what was I greeted with but this orange screen telling me about the “new way to shop” Banana Republic, Old Navy, Gap, and Piperlime online.
It may be a little late for St. Patrick’s Day, but Banana Republic is no April fool. The retailer surely knows the benefits of going green – for their sales figures and the environment – as they’re launching a 50-piece eco-friendly collection this April.
The Banana Republic Spring/Summer 2008 runway show is interspersed with backstage shots and interviews with Banana Republic execs and journalists attending the shows. BR president Jack Calhoun talks about the brand and how it has changed over the past ten years and is becoming more of a global presence – shout out to the new London store! In Style Fashion Director Hal Rubenstein loves the easy silk dresses, and so do we.
After talking with my mom, sisters and many friends with husbands or boyfriends, I’ve come to the conclusion that guys really like getting practical gifts like socks, underwear, shirts, and ties for Christmas or any other holiday–probably so they don’t ever have to go shopping. But how boring, right? So, I’ve come up with a few ideas to get them the practical gifts they want with a slightly fashionable twist to make you actually want to buy it for them. Get him a luxe dress shirt like this Liz Claiborne Wrinkle Free Sateen Shirt for $45 or this Yarn-Dyed Silk Blend Shirt on sale for $43.99. Express has stylish 1MX Fitted Shirts like the one above in brown Trimming Stripe for $54.50. They also have sauve Narrow Silk Ties for $34.50. Continue to the jump for more gift options.
Ok, so I’ve been obsessed with boots lately, but I finally found just the ones I’ve been looking for from Banana Republic. They have the best boots, shoes and handbags like the Phoebe boot (left) for $225 and the Brigid cuffed boot for $248. The pair I bought are the very chic knee-high Cinnamon mini-buckle high-heel boots above (right), and they were on sale for $179.99, down from $238. And I could barely resist the rest of their shoe collection, as well, like this adorable Champery cashmere chalet slipper for $68 and posh Lucille plaid peep-toe pump for $138. Continue over to the jump for more photos and handbag picks.
I’ve been eyeing this plaid belted dress from Banana Republic for a while now. The wool, square-neck dress would make a perfect ensemble for work that’s easily dressed up for evening or even a office-related holiday party. It’s got the red to keep it festive, without being too “party dress” for the professional crowd. But slip on some back-seam stockings and sparkling jewels and you’re ready to dash through the snow to something more your style. At $148 you’ll wear this dress for years to come.
Last night I suffered a bit of a fashion emergency. I had to run uptown to an engagement party and just figured I’d surely have something to wear. Yeah, well I didn’t. Or at least nothing that was working for me. So, I went for the quickest and closest solution: Banana Republic. I prayed all the way there they would have something fun, a little dressy and not tack another huge charge on to my credit card. And surprise!! I found this brown and beige knit jersey houndstooth dress for $138. Not bad, right? With the gathered sleeves and sexy neckline I really felt feminine and a bit Marilyn Monroe-ish. The straight pencil skirt is very trendy and paired with a brown pump, I was out the door! This dress has now made an easy, affordable home in my closet.
Banana Republic is having a huge sale right now, and I really like this braided V-neck jersey dress. Flowing and calf-length, this is a great dress to take you from summer into fall. Its light tan color, tumbled pebble, is the perfect between-season shade. The Greek goddess-like style is definitely appealing and very figure-flattering. If you, too, can’t say goodbye to summer just yet, and need something for the still-warm weeks in between, you can find this dress for just $49.99.
The word “jacket” probably sends goose bumps down your spine, but fall IS just around the corner! So, unfortunately you have to start thinking about this season’s wardrobe. So as you soak up the last bits of summer sun, dream about the joys of fall—foliage, closet clean up, and of course, more shopping. Ahhh, doesn’t that feel good?
