Taylor Swift named Billboard magazine’s Woman of the Year

By Andrea Petrou on October 12th, 2011

Taylor Swift has been named Billboard magazine’s Woman of the Year.

The 21-year-old singer is the youngest person ever to receive the award which has previously been held by performers including Beyonce Knowles, Reba McEntire and in 2010 Black Eyed Peas singer, Fergie.

Bill Werde, Billboard’s Editorial Director said: “Taylor has shown the power of good songwriting with music that has transcended genres, and we’re thrilled to acknowledge all of her successes over the past year by presenting her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award.

“At the young age of 21, Taylor has already made a major impact on music and has been an incredible role model for aspiring singers/songwriters and young women everywhere. I look forward to watching her career continue to flourish in the years to come.

The annual event, now in its sixth year, celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business, coinciding with the publication of Billboard’s Women in Music Power Players list.

This year’s event will take place on Friday, December 2 at Capitale in New York City, where Taylor will receive her award.

Audrina Patridge says seeing herself on a huge billboard for her latest Bongo campaign is “insane”.

By Andrea Petrou on April 15th, 2011

Audrina Patridge says seeing herself on a huge billboard for her latest Bongo campaign is “insane”.

The reality TV beauty – who is the face of the denim brand – thinks the new advert, in which she showcases one of the label’s new bikinis, is “amazing” but “way up close and personal”.

Speaking of the huge image on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard, in which she is posing in a black two-piece, she told People magazine: “It’s gigantic. It’s so big! When I saw it, I was like, ‘Oh, my god, that’s way up close and personal.’

“I’m so appreciative of it. I never in a thousand years thought I’d ever be up there. It’s insane, but it’s amazing.”

The 25-year-old brunette – who used to star in ‘The Hills’ and now has her own VH1 show ‘Audrina’ – says the new campaign shows what the brand has to offer for the summer and excited to be promoting their first ever swimwear line.

She explained: “It was really about promoting the brand’s spring and summer lines. Bongo has bathing suits now, which they’ve never had in the past. I think they really wanted to promote that, and since I’m always in a bikini, it just kind of made sense. It was an amazing shoot.”

Audrina is also delighted to be representing Bongo because she remembers her mother wearing the brand when she was little and now likes to wear its clothes and accessories herself.

She said: “I love Bongo. My mom used to wear it in the ’80s. It’s been around forever. They have all kinds of apparel, as well as accessories. The clothes are actually cute. I don’t like to just slap my name on something. I like to be involved. I need to like the product, otherwise I’m not going to represent it.”

Controversial Calvin Klein billboard replaced by Doutzen Kroes in a bikini

By Kimberley Foster on June 26th, 2009

It didn’t take long (just enough time to achieve maximum exposure, I’m presuming) for Calvin Klein to pull it’s controversial jeans billboard in Manhattan. The company has instead replaced the “threesome” ad with a much less provocative shot of Doutzen Kroes in a red bikini. I’m sure this will come as a sight for sore eyes to many of the locals, namely of the male variety.

By Kimberley Foster on June 17th, 2009

Calvin Klein is in hot water yet again after a provocative billboard for its womenswear and menswear jeans line was unveiled in New York this week. The racy ad which depicts a young female semi-naked model lying across one man and kissing another has caused uproar amongst appalled Manhattanites. However CK designers are at a loss to see the problem.

“It’s my favorite campaign ever!” said CK menswear designer, Italo Zucchelli. “I hope they’re going to be, ‘Ooooh, what is that?’ And then they buy our jeans. In the best tradition of Calvin Klein.”
