If effortless, edgy city-girl style is what you’re all about then you’ll appreciate the new 3.1 Phillip Lim collection which was shown at NYFW yesterday. For a label junkie he’s an absolute must-have, having proven very popular so far with the likes of Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung.

There was a definite androgynous feel to Lim’s Spring/Summer designs, with sweet feminine twists in the form of sugary pastel tones and bright whites. To balance heavy masculine shapes such as slouchy, wide-shouldered shirts, straight-legged city trousers and padded coats, they were deftly teamed with cute silk tees in pale peach and lilac or short white shift dresses.

Dresses-wise, we were shown a cool, low-key collection of playful black silk pieces, flowing grey jersey dresses and navy-white optic floral prints which were really cool. What we love about 3.1 Phillip Lim designs is that there aren’t any frills or showiness, just simply elegant, fashion-forward and wearable pieces. You don’t need to be a mad Isabella Blow type or a Parisian couture princess to wear his designs – Lim designs for every woman out there in the city streets, and we think that’s really cool.

Ten fashionable gifts under $100

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on December 11th, 2008

10 under $100 1.jpg

We wrapped up $20 gifts under $200 and are on to the $50-$100 price range. The first thing we looked for? A fab coat for gifting to your favorite girl. We like this Gap plaid belted coat, on sale for $94.99, because the plaid can be a little holiday, a little preppy or a little indie depending on the giftee’s style. It’s a little something different for the girl who usually sticks to pea coats.

It can be really hard to scrounge together an appropriate work wardrobe when you get your first job, your first office job, sell out to the corporate machine, or score a new, higher-level position. And then once you do you gain weight or lose 10 pounds or spill something on your best suit. Your basic pencil skirt, blazer, that go-to sweater … these are items that constantly need to be replaced because you wear them so often. That’s what the Gap is for, and especially what Gap sales are for. We’ve chosen some workwear staples you should have in your wardrobe that can be pieced together or worn with more stylish, unique pieces in your own closet to mix and match into a more individual ensemble: a classic three-button blazer with modern detailing, a v-neck sweater, black pencil skirt, and wool coat. Click through for more details.
