Becky Bloomwood, not as fashionable on film?

By Andrea Thatcher on December 16th, 2008

Shopaholic.jpg

Once apon a time, we all wanted to go through Rebecca Bloomwood’s closet. As long as it didn’t explode on us like it did that one time on Suze. But having seen the trailers for the upcoming film, do we still want to steal from Becky’s wardrobe?

P.S. Either way, you can steal – or at least buy – from her wardrobe – keep reading.

Bluefly introduces The Quickie

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on December 11th, 2008

Bluefly quickie Bottega Vanneta wallet.jpg

Designer-discount online shop Bluefly has taken the doorbuster concept and taken it to the net. Their new Bluefly Quickie introduces a deeply discounted designer item that is available only in limited supply and for two hours.

The kick-off quickie is this Bottega Vaneta Basketwoven continental wallet, which retails for over $600 but can be had as a quickie for $399. We guess it won’t call in the morning, but you will reach for it again and again.

Way more appropriate than giving your best friend the other kind of quickie.

10 Outfits for 10 Occasions: Rachael’s fashion forward school outfit

By Andrea Thatcher on December 18th, 2007

Rachael%27s%20outfit.jpg

Reader Rachael Cash bemoans her long legs and lean frame that make it difficult to dress for her high school’s halls. Oh Rachael, you’ll grow into it, don’t worry. But until then, here’s an outfit that should fit your school’s dress code, won’t leave your feet hurting at the end of the day, and is still a bit fashion forward with items most of your Ohio schoolmates likely won’t have but won’t find too weird. We know you lust after European fashion, so we tried to pick items with that sort of sensibility that will still fit your high schooler’s budget.

We’ve extended the window to allow you to enter our 10 Outfits for 10 Occasions Contest and win a handbag from The Sak, a Chloe & Reese dress, or a Bruno Jamais gift certificate through the end of this week. Answers to your wardrobe questions will continue to be unveiled through the New Year when a winner will be chosen.

Continue reading for the details on Rachael’s outfit.

A casual winter look from Bluefly’s Cold Weather Shop

By Andrea Thatcher on October 25th, 2007

Bluefly%20winter.jpg

We decided to raid Bluefly’s Cold Weather Shop for some discount winter fashions to create a casual look for keeping warm. We chose a muted, but still colorful outfit with blues and grays and a pop of red. The coat is Kenneth Cole Reaction, $168, and we like the seaming at the waist of the wool spread collar topper. Underneath that you can wear this $78 Design History sweater. In a silk-cashmere knit, this crossover V-neck drapes elegantly down from a pleated nape. The rosette and leaf appliques on the $37 Portolano gloves provide interest on the muted loden. You can keep this embroidered teal Elizabeth Gillett scarf, $64, on to prevent a chill in that V-neck once indoors. On top? A red cashmere Portolano beret for $27.

Puffy jackets for fall and winter

By Andrea Thatcher on October 5th, 2007

puffy%20jackets.JPG
The term “puffy” might send you reeling for your covers, filling you with a desire to hide for the day. Puffy under eyes, puffy hair, well, most anything puffy is bad. Except for this season’s puffy coats. Say goodbye to the floor-length marshmallow coats you’d only find at sporting goods stores. This season, designers are showing how being warm doesn’t mean being dowdy. This Add Down puffer wrap jacket (left) is chic in this season’s in-color gray and sleek paired with its leather belt, available at Shopbop.com for $361. Or check out this Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent cropped puff jacket (right), for $210 at Bluefly.com.

Take this fashionable fall outfit to the office and beyond

By Andrea Thatcher on October 2nd, 2007

fall%20outfit.jpg

We loved these Jonathan Kelsey two-tone pumps so much, we had to build an outfit around them! Since they serve as the trendy item of the ensemble, we kept the rest fairly simple with a purple cashmere wrap sweater from Bluefly and a Chloe button-down skirt from Net-a-Porter. Another fall fave of mine – this Banana Republic satchel - rounds out the look with structure and style. As a bonus, all the pieces would definitely do double duty with other outfits both casual and dressy.

Get the look of Balenciaga’s blazer for less with this Alice and Olivia option

By Andrea Thatcher on October 1st, 2007

Blazers.jpg

Fashionistas are fawning over Balenciaga’s wool blazer available at Barney’s and Balenciaga for $2,575. But if that seems like a steep price for a white blazer that will show city grime or lunchtime spills like nobody’s business, check out this Alice and Olivia blazer on sale at Bluefly for $240. Sure, the Alice and Olivia version is black and white, not blue and white, and lacks some of the rich details of the Balenciaga, but I actually think the color combo is a bit chicer and less “just stepped of the yacht.”

Sweater dresses for fall from Celine to Design History

By Andrea Thatcher on September 28th, 2007

76099776.jpg
The sweater dress is a great transitional piece moving from fall into winter. Paired with opaque tights and heels, the look can be described best as sexy-warm. Body-hugging while still being covered up, the sweater dress is good for work or a night out. The gray dress above, worn by a model at the Hamptons Magazine hosted party in Southampton, is from Celine’s fall/winter 2007 collection. For a cheaper, but just as stylish sweater-dress, continue reading.

By Andrea Thatcher on September 26th, 2007
