Karl Lagerfeld has designed a hotel made entirely of chocolate

By Andrea Petrou on May 4th, 2011

Karl Lagerfeld has designed a hotel made entirely of chocolate.

The eccentric designer has created ‘The Magnum Chocolate Hotel Suite’ to celebrate the launch of Magnum Ecuador and Ghana ice creams, which are made with specially selected cocoa beans sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms in Ecuador and Ghana.

Using 10.5 tonnes of chocolate it includes a chocolate sculpture of French male model, Karl’s muse, Baptise Giabiconi, draped seductively on the chocolate bed.

Speaking about the hotel suite – which was created with French master chocolatier Patrick Roger – Karl said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to design the Magnum Chocolate Suite. My idea was to flirt with a mix of modern and traditional French influences to create something remarkable.”

Patrick added: “What is important is precision, exactness and that’s also why I decided to join forces with Karl (Lagerfeld) because it allows us to push our work even further, to be even more precise, and that is priceless.”

Karl designed all the elements of the room, which Patrick then sculpted from 10 tonnes of chocolate.

Asos Marketplace highlights: Never Fully Dressed

By Andrea Petrou on January 28th, 2011

By Emily Borrett.

We at ShinyStyle can’t quite believe that we haven’t yet written anything about the new marketplace feature on online shopping superstore Asos.com. The basis behind Asos Marketplace is similar to that of Ebay or Etsy – put up your own fashion pieces for sale, with photographs and descriptions, and see if anyone bites. The difference between Marketplace and Ebay, though, is that Marketplace doesn’t leave you scrolling through pages and pages of crap from New Look in the early noughties just to find a pair of shoes that you think are sort of okay – designed and sold by young, fashion-conscious people, absolutely every piece sold on Marketplace is fashion gold.

Today we’re going to look at the online boutique store Never Fully Dressed, which specialises in sheer, floaty pieces that manage to be both pretty and edgy at the same time. Still hankering after one of the see-through, high-necked blouses that so many London girls favour at the moment, but don’t know where to get one? Never Fully Dressed sell a gorgeous one in assorted colours for under forty pounds – bargain. The boutique is choc-a-bloc full of separates and cool basics that will be amazing new must-haves for your spring wardrobe, and look great on a night out or dressed down with leggings and boots. Check the gallery below for our favourite items.

How gorgeous is this shirt dress? It would look dreamy with a pair of heels or toughened up with some biker boots.

Start saving up, girls: Christian Dior hits Mayfair next month

By Andrea Petrou on October 6th, 2010

By Emily Borrett.

For you fashion-lovers that loved Christian Dior’s ready-to-wear S/S collection, shown at Paris this week, you’ll be excited (and stressed about your bank balance) to hear that the label, headed by genius John Galliano, will be opening up a boutique in London’s Mayfair next month that’s going to have all of their ready-to-wear clothes for sale in there, along with accesories and sunglasses. It’s said that the boutique is going to take inspiration from the mother-store in Paris, with lots of 18th century luxury and decoration, so it’ll be worth a look even if you can’t afford anything.

Most labels won’t be releasing their S/S clothes for sale to the public for a while yet, so we’re excited about this – and you should be too. The collection was a sexy, cartoonish array of 1940s-inspired clothes that took all the tack and cliche away from the whole pin-up fashion and breathed some new fashion life into it, with neon brights, extreme winged sunglasses, Honolulu tropical prints and, yes – sailor hats.

Here’s hoping that this will be where everyone’s shopping next month – I think central London could use a bit of Popeye chic.

Act glamorous, live amorous: The sexiest way to blow your paycheck

By Andrea Petrou on September 10th, 2010

By Emily Borrett.

If you haven’t managed to quite retain your bikini-body now that the sun’s gone away, and you’re feeling less than a goddess, don’t worry. As the season shifts from summer into the wintery months a new sexiness begins – party dresses, glamour, and yes, sexy undies.

And if you’re like me and feel endlessly perked up by putting on a pair of beautifully made undies (no Primark here, no sir) then you’ll be pleased to know about the launch of the website GlamorousAmorous.com, which kindly put all of your dream lingerie designers together on one big lovely site. GlamorousAmorous features stock from the very best shops available, which include Mimi Holliday, couture lingerie designers Strumpet & Pink, Maxine’s of London and my personal favourite, Lascivious.

Ideas on beauty and femininity have changed over the last season and designers are no longer creating lingerie with Kate Moss in mind. GlamorousAmorous have catered to this by providing tips for fittings, whether you’re a skinny, straight-up-and-down girl or inundated with curves that Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks would kill for. It’s all about accentuating your most feminine features at the moment, be they your breasts, waists, legs or hips. And GA is here to help.

True, some of the pieces on the site don’t come cheap. But really beautiful, well-made underwear never does. So what I say is, start writing your Christmas list now and hand it over to your boyfriend so that he can start saving up. After all, there’s something in it for him too.

Shiny Style loves: Boutique leather at IL2L.com

By Elaine LaPersonerie on July 16th, 2010

I Love 2 Love is an up-and-coming boutique leather company that boasts a fashion-forward capsule of leather jackets that promise to stand the test of time. With generous reductions happening on the site at the moment, now is the time to check them out.

A favourite of mine out of the capsule is IL2L’s asymmetric leather biker jacket – an updated spin on a timeless style made iconic by heart-throbs such as James Dean and Marlon Brando, IL2L has stripped the biker jacket down to its’ bare bones and added in asymmetric angular detail to create a cleaner, more modern look. It’s a bargain for real leather and is an easy way to toughen up a girlie outfit in seconds. Another piece that caught my eye is their pleather hooded bomber jacket, which will be going on my wishlist come pay-day. It’s definitely a cool way to keep your hair dry when it’s raining (or disguise yourself from people you know when you’re doing the Walk of Shame in the morning).

IL2L not only sells their own designs, but also sells hand-picked products from other well-known and well-loved leather brands such as Bench, Fossil, Hooch, Kipling and Lee Cooper.

If you’re looking for a leather jacket at the moment, definitely take a minute to check out their site or check the gallery below for a few of my favourites.
