SS 2012 beauty trends: Bold brows

By Andrea Petrou on January 10th, 2012

Bin those tweezers and cancel those wax appointments for next season because full, dark eyebrows are back.

Giving a nod to the sixties, this beauty trend made an appearance on a great range of the Spring 2012 cawalks with the likes of Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander and Derek Lam all sending models down the runway with thick, bushy brows.

If you’re naturally fair take inspiration from Burberry and add some boldness and thickness with a brow pencil for more definition or go simply go all out with thick defined brows like those shown at Altuzarra.

Top five worst dressed celebrities at the 2011 Golden Globe awards

By Andrea Petrou on January 5th, 2012

We heart January over here at ShinyStyle.

The Christmas party season is over, the sales are on and spring fashion colours are peeping through on the highstreet. However, the best thing about this month is of course the Golden Globe awards, which are guaranteed to bring out some of the best and worst dressed stars in Hollywood.

There’s only ten days left until we get to see all of this year’s red carpet style but to celebrate the huge event we’ve decided to take a look back at some of 2011′s fashion disasters.

Making the list is Leighton Meester who opted for a Burberry frock that couldn’t decide which trend it wanted to channel. Then there’s Helena Bonham Carter – don’t shoot us – whose glasses mixed with an over patterned frock made her look more silly than stylish.

And let’s not forget Halle Berry and January Jones who both showed us why it’s sometimes best to cover up at such events. Less is sometimes not more ladies.

See the gallery below for our top five worst dressed.

By Andrea Petrou on November 16th, 2011

Kelly Rowland won the X Factor judges style wars hands down when she turned up on Saturday night sporting the masculine trend.

The singer who has clearly taken inspiration from the likes of Burberry  and Marc Jacobs looked hot in a black tux blazer, white shirt and skinny cigarette trousers teamed up with black court shoes.

To complete the look she kept her hair tied back in a bun. We absolutely love this look so we’ve scoured the highstreet to find the best bits to achieve this style.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Christian Louboutin shoes make her “feel like a woman”

By Andrea Petrou on November 14th, 2011

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Christian Louboutin shoes make her “feel like a woman”.

The Victoria’s Secret model thinks it is “really worth” saving up for a pair of the red-lacquered sole footwear because they will automatically make girls appear “very sexy”.

She said: “I feel they make you look very sexy, the cuts are beautiful; the lines, the colours the embellishments.

“I think he managed to capture something so special for women, every girl should be lucky enough to have them. If you can save up for a pair put away a dollar a week. It’s worth it girls. It is really worth it.”

The ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ actress – who topped both FHM’s Sexiest Women List and Maxim’s Hot 100 List earlier this year – has coped well since becoming famous and even manages to “avoid” the attention that comes from living a showbiz lifestyle when she needs to.

The 24-year-old stunner added to Fox411′s Pop Tarts: “I am very lucky in my life so I don’t wish for anything I don’t have, and I actually manage to get around just fine. I’m just fine.

“It’s not too much, I manage to avoid it when it’s necessary, but I’m very thankful for everything.”

10 Fashion brands to follow on Instagram: Burberry, ASOS, Mango and Gucci

By Elisabeth on October 21st, 2011

If you follow fashion – who am I kidding of course you do! – you’ll have noticed how Burberry were first with a tweetwalk during their show at this September’s London Fashion Week. Burberry has also been one of the many fashion brands embracing Instagram, the popular iPhone photo sharing app. And while we were busy noting the trends for Spring Summer 2012, Becca over on ShinyShiny had a look at which fashion brands are using Instagram in an interesting way to give their fans and followers a behind-the-scenes peek at the fast paces and highly aspirational industry.

The classic British brand is another Instagram favourite and already has more than 100,000 followers! The snaps are always beautifully shot and show you just what you can achieve with the app's great selection of filters.

ShinyShiny is also celebrating Instagram week and is running an easy to enter mobile photography competition with Orbitsound. All you have to do is take a photo with an Autumnal theme and share it on Twitter along with the hash tag #ShinyAutumn. It can be of a leaf or a Halloween costume, we really don’t mind. The winner will get a fabulous T12v3 speaker bar from Orbitsound and 19 runners up will get random iPhone related goodies.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley keeps her figure thanks to three personal trainers

By Andrea Petrou on October 3rd, 2011

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has three personal trainers.

The British beauty – who is the face of Burberry Body – admits she needs to always be in the gym to maintain her trim physique, and has trainers in all three cities in which she works.

She said: “It takes lots and lots of hard work. I have three personal trainers – James Duigan in London, Jason Walsh in Los Angeles and my friend Justin in New York. That means there’s no excuse not to be in the gym wherever I go.”

In addition to a strict exercise regime, the 24-year-old model also controls what she eats, and tries to put few carbohydrates into her body.

She added to Britain’s Grazia magazine: “Everything starts with exercise. Then you want to look after yourself and put good food in your body.

“I have a really good response when I cut out carbs so that’s something I always do before a great event. I eat a high-protein diet and lots of greens.”

London Fashion Week SS12: Burberry Prosum #LFW

By AlexLoves on September 20th, 2011

Burberry Prosum Spring/Summer 2012

Picture 1 of 12
Picture 1 of 12

Models on the catwalk during the Burberry Prosum Spring/Summer 2012 Show in Kensington, London, as part of London Fashion Week.

With a front row always packed with celebs, a spectacular location and all the world’s top models walking in one show, the Burberry shows have fast become the hottest ticket of the London Fashion Week. This time, it was no different: Sienna Miller, Kanye West, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Ellie Goulding, Andy Murray, Anna Wintour, Rachel Zoe, Mario Testino,… the list of Burberry-clad celebs goes on and on and it makes for a fun half hour of celebspotting before the show begins.

But let’s not forget the clothes, which is why we’re there after all. There was a slight Oriental theme to the summer collection, with trenchcoats and calf-length dresses adorned with colourful beading, crochet collars and geometric patterns. There were tribal prints – something not often seen at Burberry, and the bags, too, got a flash of colour, whilst  the models’ straw bobble hats added a bit of fun to the mix. A great, upbeat collection featuring some fresh ideas, as the last winter collection had been a little bit of a repeat from previous years. For the finale, the models were showered in a rain of gold confetti, which had a breathtaking effect to those in the tent.

Spectators at home got a little treat as well. Christopher Bailey is a tech-savvy genius, who, only a few seasons ago pioneered the livestreaming movement, opening his shows up to a global audience. He also did the first show in 3D, one of the first to incorporate Twitter and allowed people to buy the clothes online straight after the show. So, it came as no surprise that he had another trick up his sleeve: this time you would not only be able to buy the clothes during the live show (until September 26th), but Burberry would be the first to have a Tweetwalk, where Twitter users would be able to see the full look of each model right before she hit the catwalk, thus allowing people at home to have the real exclusive. This means of course the going to the show is actually now completely unnecessary, and yet, I wouldn’t trade the real thing for the world.

Adele wants to be styled by Burberry for awards season

By emilyborrett on September 7th, 2011

The singer Adele has admitted that she’s dying to have Christopher Bailey, creative director of Burberry, style her for the next upcoming awards season.

Adele is already having a major fashion moment right now, having just made the cover of UK Vogue – but we think seeing the singer decked out in Burberry would be the icing on the cake. Apparently, they’re already planning a style collaboration. Oh, to be a celebrity…

The Someone Like You singer told Vogue: “I love old school. Chanel, Prada, you know. And Burberry, definitely. I’ve met Christopher Bailey a few times. He’s definitely going to dress me for the next lot of awards – if I’m nominated. I’ve always loved Burberry. I remember saving for three years to get my first bag before I got signed. Five hundred quid, I think it was, made of canvas with the logo like a satchel.”

Okay, now I’m just gonna put something out there. Burberry, if you get bored of styling Adele, I’d also like to be styled by you for awards season. I know I won’t be invited or anything – just something beautiful to wear while I watch it on TV, really… No? Oh, okay then.

British Fashion Awards 2011 nominees: Burberry, Sarah Burton, Erdem and more

By emilyborrett on September 6th, 2011

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen is up for the "Designer of the Year" award

This year’s ultimate who’s who of fashion begins as we’ve just discovered who the nominees are for 2011′s British Fashion Awards. Get ready, girls and boys..
The coveted “Designer of the Year” award has three potential nominees: Sarah Burton, who has taken over the helm at Alexander McQueen’s since her predeccessor’s death, Christopher Kane whose collections featured liquid-looking plastic and crochet dresses and Erdem, whose dresses have a delicate fairy-like beauty.
“Designer Brand of The Year” has four designers vying for the award. Burberry, one of London’s favourite fashion houses, is nominated, as is our very own Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham, whose latest collections have proved that the ex Spice Girl is more than just another famous name tacked onto a fashion project. They will all be going up against the right honorable Tom Ford, who has recently returned to designing womenswear.
“Model of the Year” is between Georgia Jagger, Stella Tennant and Kristen McMenamy. Our money is on Jagger to win – our very own little Brigitte Bardot.
Nominated for the the “Accessory Designer” award is Emma Hill for Mulberry, along with Katie Hillier and shoe designer Charlotte Olympia. We adore all three, but how could Mulberry not bag the award? We’ll have to wait and see to find out if we’re right.
This has been such an exciting season for fashion, and we absolutely cannot wait to see who’s going to snatch the most prestigious awards. The British fashion industry is magical, and we can’t wait to see so many of our favourite names honoured with the awards.
To read the full list of nominations, see here.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely is set to star in the Autumn M&S campaigns

By emilyborrett on August 31st, 2011

Britain’s poutiest supermodel, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, is going to be the new face of Marks & Spencer’s Autumn ad campaigns alongside the Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds.

The A-list twosome are going to front M&S’s Autograph collection, one of the department store’s many different clothing lines, though Autograph is one of the most fashion-forward ones. Rosie, who’s previously modelled in Burberry campaigns, said: “I feel proud to be associated with a British high street favourite that holds fond memories for so many people.”

The Canadian heart-throb Ryan also has a fond connection with the store and thinks of M&S with “nostalgia”. He said: “Going into an M&S store with my family or friends always gives me a beautiful pang of nostalgia. The Autograph collection is a modern take on the classic style I love and feel most comfortable wearing. The pieces in this collection are lasting staples that’ll never go out of style.”

The executive director of the store, Steve Sharp, was absolutely ecstatic to get the Hollywood pair to front the brand – we have to say that a Victoria’s Secret model and a Hollywood blockbuster hero is a bit of a step up from Myleene Klass and Danni Minogue dancing around in their pyjamas. He told MailOnline: “Rosie and Ryan are the perfect fit for Autograph – beautiful, exclusive and absolutely contemporary. On set, they worked together to deliver a mesmerising performance which allowed us to capture shots that literally sizzle with excitement and an air of mystery.”

Keep an eye out for these two on the telly – Marks & Spencer just got sexy.

Autumn/Winter Trend Alert: 60s Mod

By emilyborrett on August 1st, 2011

Shift Dress in Colour Block

Picture 1 of 10
Picture 1 of 10

This is the best mod-inspired dress on the high street right now. The contrasting tones and eye-popping colour make this dress from Asos an absolute must-buy.

Oh happy days, the mod trend is back with a swinging sixties vengeance and I couldn’t be happier if I tried.

At this Autumn/Winter’s fashion shows the likes of Jil Sander and Burberry Prorsum travelled back into the past to bring us a veritable assortment of swing coats, tunic dresses, ankle boots and ski-inspired knitwear in a bold rainbow of colour.

More wearable than other upcoming trends such as goth, craftwork and (whisper it) zoot suits, the scooter girl look is a cute and girly way to easily sail through the perils of a new fashion season. What’s more, the simplicity of mod-inspired clothes means that it’ll be an incredibly easy look to wear in the winter months when you want to layer up. Snuggly and fashion-savvy, this is a trend we’ll get on board for.

If you’re looking for the definitive tunic dress then head on over to Asos, where we guarantee a rush on their brilliant turquoise tunic with contrasting pockets. Meanwhile, Topshop is all over Chelsea boots and have updated the classic sixties boot style with a few quirky fashion-forward twists such as fringing and studs.

The high street is already all over this trend, so if you’re ready to start planning your A/W wardrobe then check out our gallery above – we’ve had a highly successful search for amazing mod-inspired pieces.
