Carolina Herrera has designed the wedding dress worn by Kristen Stewart’s character in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
The wedding dress creator – loved by stars including Amy Adams and Christina Hendricks – has said she was delighted to make the dress for Bella Swan and added she would make a “beautiful” bride in the film, where she marries vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).
She said in a statement: “It is always a great pleasure to design any wedding gown, but this one was particularly special.
“Kristen is a stunning girl and her character Bella will make a beautiful bride.”
Confirmation originally came from twitter, where the official studio Summit Entertainment wrote: “On November 18, see Bella’s Carolina Herrera-designed wedding dress in BreakingDawnPart1!(sic)”
Little is known about the specifics of the dress, but in the trailer for the movie – which is released on November 18 – Bella is seen wearing a long sleeved gown with her hair up and a simple veil attached with a small comb.
This morning my pal and I found ourselves invited backstage at Carolina Herrera courtesy of one of the stylists and we had a blast!
Herrera in Fall 2009 collection was full of textured silk, jacquard, lace and suede with overlays of floral motifs. In every single piece and on the models were decorative elements cast in bronze in France with an 18th century inspiration. They were tied into the hair, onto belts and shoes and sewn onto the clothes themselves.
Forget the ’80s it was all about uptown elegance at the Carolina Herrera show yesterday.
Feminine pieces, designed with the actual female form in mind, floated down the runway in bronzed business suits, high-waisted pencil skirts, shimmery satin blouses in purple, fuchsia and teal.
Each fabric was so rich in colour and texture in was enough to make you want to reach out and grab it right off the model.
“When the economy is not that good, we need to achieve, to do something even more special,” Carolina Herrera told the AP. And special it was indeed. The designer put on a show of feminine sophistication in her signature dresses – a favourite on the red carpet by the likes of Renee Zellweger, who sat on the front row after keeping the crowds waiting. Details in ruffles and beading added a luxe element to Herrera’s after-five gowns, and the odd tuxedo jacket thrown over the top reminded me of the end of many evenings. All that was needed was the models to walk along, bare-footed with heels in their hands.
Inspired by Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking Suit and one of the night’s winners, Ashley Olsen donned a Calvin Klein resort 09 tuxedo. Naomi Campbell topped that by wearing vintage YSL, and CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg also wore the symbolic style including a vintage YSL jacket.
The tastemakers fetted Style.com’s Candy Pratts Price who will receive the Eugenia Sheppard Award, Carolina Herrera who will receive The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Acheivement Award, on the heels of her nomination for the Fashion Walk of Fame, and Francisco Costa for his nomination for womenswear designer of the year for Calvin Klein.

Since we kind of burned out on the Oscar blogging last night, our UK team has been providing some trend reports today on what were the most popular styles on the red carpet. Up now? Strapless and fabulous.
Renee Zellweger wore a silver Carolina Herrera gown, embellished with sparkles it really shone on the red carpet, requiring minimal jewellery.
More wearable clothes for pre-fall were presented yesterday, this time from Carolina Herrera. The thing about wearable designer collections is that on the one hand they’re much easier to approximate into your own wardrobe even if you can’t afford the real thing. But the disappointing thing is that you’ll always miss the beautiful craftsmanship and luxurious details that perhaps aren’t so obvious when you’re inspired by something a bit more outlandish. We loved that Carolina threw in some more overtly sexy items with this collection, while maintaining her impeccable aesthetic.
