We’re head over heels over Cate Blanchett’s Oscar dress, but we know it’s not to everyone’s taste.
Well known for her kooky style, Cate pulled off this stunning light lilac backless frock by Givenchy.
However, unlike many others the detailing didn’t stop there. Yellow beading formed the back straps of this chiffon number, while cut out detailing in the middle really made this frock stand out.
But tell us what you think. Is it a red carpet fab or red carpet flop?
Vote below and let us know.
While we were crowding round the BBQs, eating burgers and cheering on England, the US stars had more demure events to be thinking about.
This weekend saw the 61st annual Tony Awards, which celebrate the best in American theatre and although they are not as well known as perhaps the Oscars or Baftas, A-class celebrities still strutted their fashion stuff on the red carpet.
Catherine Zeta-Jones accepted her best actress in a musical award for her Broadway debut in the musical A Little Night Music, in a baby blue strapless organza gown complete with beading, while Lucy Liu looked went for cute and girly in a pink frilled Marchesa frock.
Scarlett Johansson went for celeb favourite Elie Saab opting for a black beaded gown, which she showed off when she went to pick up her award for Best Performance in a Play by a Featured actress while Paula Abdul opted for frills and fishtail in a Tony Ward Couture frock.
However, not everyone went for beaded and bare skin. Naomi Watts took a risk in a nude suit style fock with long sleeves by RM by Roland Mouret gown that kept bare skin at a minimum while Cate Blanchett took an even bigger one in a silver Armani Prive suit.
Thankfully we think the risk paid off.
We also think a special fashion mention goes out to Helen Mirren who, like Scarlett, opted for a black frock to wow on the night, and Glee star Lea Michele who shone in sunshine yellow.

The premiers of this year’s Cannes film festival are set to be huge in the fashion stakes going by some of the frocks A-listers pulled out for the first Cannes premier of Robin Hood yesterday.
However it’s not just the films some celebs got all dolled up for.
Kate Beckinsdale and Cate Blanchett turned up to the event looking stunning and wearing frocks similar to those seen at awards event, showing how big this fashion extravaganza is going to be.
Cate went for a white 50s white pencil skirt suit, while Kate went for an on-trend satin frock to make an entrance.

Our co-bloggers at Catwalk Queen have been busy bringing you all the latest show reports from Haute Couture Week in Paris.

We’ll have more for you coming up!
The Oscar nominations are out, and as for fashionistas it seems to be a case of the sophisticate and the ingenue – with Keira Knightley somewhere in the middle.
Cate Blanchett is nominated for best actress in a leading role for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and also for best actress in a supporting role for I’m Not There. This is Blanchett’s fourth nomination, and she won once before in 2005 for her supporting role in The Aviator - as seen above.

We’re not really sure it was worth listening to Billy Bush and Nancy O’Dell to hear about the Golden Globe winners live, so if you’ve waited until Monday morning to check out the highlights, good job.
Two of our favorite fashionista winners were Cate Blanchett for best supporting actress in I’m Not There, and Keira Knightley whose film Atonement won for best motion picture, drama.
Here we show Cate at the American Film Institute awards in December. We love the dress but find the length a little awkward. One of Keira’s 2007 style high points was the L.A. premiere of Atonement in an ethereal Rodarte dress.

The Golden Globe nominations are out, and some of our favorite fashionistas – plus a few newcomers – have made the list. But who will make the really important list: the best dressed list? With American Gangster, Atonement, Eastern Promises, The Great Debaters, Michael Clayton, No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood nominated for best motion picture drama, and Across the Universe, Charlie Wilson’s War, Hairspray, Juno and Sweeney Todd up for musical/comedy, we can count on some of our favorite stars making the red carpet their runway for the night. Read on to see what we’re hoping for as well as a picture of Hayden Panettiere at the nominations.
Expecting mother Cate Blanchett looks lovely in a sparkling black lace tiered gown at the lighting ceremony Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan of the new Giorgio Armani flagship store. Doesn’t it seem like just about every celebrity’s pregnant these days? And Cate Blanchett certainly does seem to have that special glow about her. She’s pictured with Giorgio Armani himself, who seems very proud of himself and a little short next to Cate. Armani Tower, located in the central shopping area of Tokyo, is 11-stories high with 2 basement floors, and provides its own brands as well as a spa and cafes.
I love Cate Blanchett’s dazzling Vivienne Westwood dress she wore yesterday to the London red carpet premiere of her latest movie, Elizabeth: The Golden Age. The Aussie actress’ strapless, curve-hugging sequined number looks amazing on her figure, and the shine is just right for the season. Check out my previous post to find your sequin dress for all those holiday parties or check out this hot Paillette knit tank dress from Bebe for $129.
From now until November 5, vote for the celebrity you think should get the recognition she deserves! Vogue is holding its first-ever Best-Dressed Sweepstakes with 20 celebrities to choose from. The celebrities in the running are Sofia Coppola, Maria Sharapova, Nicole Kidman, Sienna Miller, Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Aerin Lauder, Renée Zellweger, Chloë Sevigny, Natalia Vodianova, Sarah Jessica Parker, Liya Kebede, Lauren Davis, Kate Moss, Miuccia Prada, Christy Turlington, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jemima Khan, Jennifer Connelly, and Uma Thurman. I’m surprised, though, that a few celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner didn’t make the cut. What do you think?
