We can’t believe how quickly this year’s SS 2013 fashion weeks have come around, and we’re dead excited to see what London has to offer in the very near future.
However, for now we’ll be having a sneaky look at what New York has to offer and first on our list is Carolina Herrera’s Spring/Summer 2013 offerings.
This season the designer decided to go all floaty for the catwalk show.
Models marched down the catwalk in soft ethereal fabrics and shapes, punctured with hits of bold colours such as black, which gave what could have been this very girly collection a fierce edge.
Shift style frocks, classic preppy pleat tennis dresses teamed with structured blazers also made an appearance, while white dominated the colour palate here.
Definitely a day in the park/ simple summer night out collection, which we heart.

The sun may still have its hat on but as the holidays and summer festivals begin to die down there’s only one thing that’s on our mind and that’s next season’s fab fashions.
One trend that looks set to be key is the Edwardian look, which lends itself to a range of different winter styles.
Channelled on the Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton AW catwalk, elements of this look are great for giving a nod to the tweed country feel, while those who want to show off this trend on a night out will love the hats and jewelled coats and waistcoats this lends itself to.
See the gallery below for Louis Vuitton’s AW 2012 take on this look.

Sarah Burton has become a household name since she designed Kate Middleton’s wedding frock, but with her AW 2012 collection for Alexander McQueen she showed she was a fashion force to be reckoned with.
Depicting the outlandish McQueen style, models clad in big fur creations, including puff short dresses and evening gowns, marched down the catwalk, while ruffles and pleats in skirts gave a nod to the the Elizabethan dinner party.
Mixing in today’s futuristic trend, these styles were teamed up with wide shield glasses, big structured belts and super high platform boots.
Further into the collection Burton added a more intricate feel with lace fabrics and feathers taking the main stage.
Tulle was also added to evening wear, although fur still made an appearance on cuffs and necklines.
Now to find a suitable event to show one of these off.

Julien Macdonald will launch a bespoke service in 2012.
The designer has experienced such an increase in demand for his made-to-measure service that he has decided to set up his own atelier which will be devoted to helping clients create “special outfits” from UK sourced fabrics.
He said: “Working closely with a client to create a special outfit is so much fun. I love the idea of being able to do more of that.
“I’m really excited about setting up the atelier. I’ve always tried to source UK fabrics and use UK manufacturers for my ready to wear collections, so having a dedicated in-house atelier to produce ‘Made in Britain’ pieces for my clients is a dream come true for me.”
Julien’s new venture will be supported by an in-house workshop wholly devoted to the bespoke British service.
Julien has previously revealed he hoped to tone down his designs as he believes some of his past creations have been too daring.
He said: “I know now that you can be glamorous and sexy without having to show it all. I’m constantly learning and finding out about new techniques. It’s like asking a great reader ‘Have you read all the books in the world?’ “

Daisy Lowe believes you have to be fearless to be a model.
The 22-year-old daughter of Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rossdale loves her job but says a sense of adventure is a definite plus when trying to get ahead in the fashion industry.
She explained to Live magazine: “I’m fearless when I need to be. In my work I’ve not been known turn down a challenge.
“I’ve posed naked a few times now, and that doesn’t bother me. I’ve done some mad shoots with the US photographer Steven Klein where I’ve hung off a giant crane ad jumped naked into a tub of slime.
“I recently did a shoot that involved four huge snakes crawling all over my body. I spent the whole day fretting about it. On the day itself I didn’t want them to smell my fear in case they decided to bite me.”
Despite her hugely successful career which has involved walking the catwalk for Chanel, Daisy admitted she actually “always wanted to become a “forensic scientist”.
She added: “I’ve always had a very analytical mind and science was my best subject at school. I haven’t completely ruled out the idea of doing something like that when I’m older.”

Zac Posen Spring/Summer 2012
Lovers of grand, lush eveningwear should get ready to gasp and flutter their hands as we take a look at Zac Posen’s new Spring/Summer 2012 collection, which was showcased at New York Fashion Week this Sunday. The result of another season’s toil over a new collection was a mouth-watering collection of day-dresses and evening gowns which were evocative of old 1940s Hollywood starlets.
What we love about Zac Posen’s work is that he obviously has a woman’s femininity in mind when he designs his gowns – these are designs that would leave the wearer feeling beautiful and special, with a veritable array of dresses with form-fitting dresses that hug in all the right places but artfully skim over the main problem areas. With off-the-shoulder sweetheart necklines, fitted busts and huge silk ruffles, it’s no wonder that Zac Posen is every celebrity’s red-carpet favourite.
As usual some of the gowns are truly spectacular, our absolute favourite being the collection’s black chiffon fishtail gown with an absolutely stunning black chiffon hem that we’re hoping we’ll see a celebrity wearing very, very soon. There’s definitely a darkly glamorous goth vibe to the gowns, as Posen has opted for deep navy, black and wine-red chiffons for an incredibly dramatic effect. The styling for the show was picture-perfect too, with the models wearing absolutely pristine finger waves in their hair and costume jewellery.
A grand salute to Zac Posen and his genius Spring/Summer gowns – ShinyStyle bloody loves ya.

Keira Knightley opted for her trademark romantic look in this gorgeous crystal lace dress at the Toronto Film Festival
With it being both the fashion season and the film festival season at the moment, it’s a pretty good time for sneaking peeks at celebs’ best red carpet and party outfits. Today we weren’t let down at all by what we found.
Keira Knightley was spotted at the Toronto International Film Festival looking absolutely amazing in a nude lace crystal dress, with a sleek dark bob and angelic make up. We think that’s an Elie Saab dress that she’s wearing, lucky girl, but we could be wrong.. This is definitely a look that really works for her – we’re glad she sticks to it. We also spotted Emily Blunt looking quite foxy in a halter-necked black jumpsuit which looked cool with her laidback wavy hair and smoky eyes.
Meanwhile as New York Fashion Week continues, we spotted the Charmed actress Rose McGowan looking extremely sultry in an amazing magenta structured cocktail dress which matched the colour of her lipstick. This is one actress we never thought would come zooming back into our style radar, but we’re often surprised.. Meanwhile, the statuesque Heidi Klum towered over Christian Siriano backstage in a clinging back dress with a sheer chiffon skirt.
The Worst Dressed In The World EVER Award goes to Kelly Osbourne, who rocked up to Fashion’s Night Out in Chicago wearing a red rubber T-shirt. I don’t think I need to say any more than that.
To see who we’ve been spotting, check out the gallery above.

The celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe has admitted that she’s “terrified” about the debut of her new fashion line, which will be shown in the upcoming New York Fashion Week. Yay, super-stylists get nervous too!
Rachel, who’s famous in the past for weaving fashion magic over Hollywood’s elite, told the fashion site FabSugar: “Nervous, excited, petrified, anxious, terrified . Did I mention terrified? I’m terrified.” Well, if her taste in clothes is anything to go by then the designs will be good – then again, you never can tell til you see it on the runway..
Despite her trepidation, Rachel Zoe is also excited about her new project, having recently compared finishing a collection to “giving birth”. “Being a designer was the thing that I always said, ‘I’m never going to do this, because I’m too scared to do this’. All of sudden during my presentation this season, I was like ‘Oh my god, why am I doing this, I’m too scared to do this. Then it was like, it was almost like giving birth. When it was over, I was like, ‘This is the most exciting, most challenging adventure. This is new, and this is fun.’ ” We can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

Gisele Bundchen, the world’s highest-paid supermodel, will apparently no longer wear heels on the catwalk because she isn’t used to them anymore, says designer Nicolas Ghesquiere. And apparently she isn’t the only one, either, as he claims more and more models are refusing to walk in ankle-breakers.
Nicolas told NY Magazine: “The idea was to have this crazy casting with Gisele Bundchen and Amber Valletta and Carolyn Murphy and they said no for high heels. They were not used to walking in heels anymore. Gisele was worried, she would not walk in my heels.”
Well, I suppose when you’re the highest earning model in the world you can choose to be a little picky about what you will and won’t do. But come on love, you’re Gisele!

The designer Marc Jacobs has gushingly spoken out about his admiration for the supermodel Kate Moss, who closed his fetish-inspired Louis Vuitton runway show this season to much applause.
Marc puts Kate’s enduring success and popularity as a model down to her “unique” and “huge” presence – according to the designer there are not many models like Kate.
Jacobs told Vogue: “I mean Kate is, besides being physically beautiful and an incredibly charismatic and extraordinary personality, just very rare – if not totally unique. Kate can be just Kate, and the presence is just huge. She fills space, indoor and outdoor, studio space and pages, with such life. That energy really comes through in any and everything that she does.”
It sounds to us like Marc’s got a bit of a girl-crush on Kate, but can you blame him? This is one of our favourite friendships within the fashion industry.

The shoes which Naomi Campbell famously fell over in have been put on display.
The supermodel was wearing the Super Elevated Gillie heels by Dame Vivienne Westwood when she spectacularly tumbled to the ground as she took part in a Paris catwalk show in 1993.
Now the nine-inch high mock-crocodile skin shoes are part of an exhibition at the Bowes Museum, County Durham, England, which shows off shoes from Vivienne’s range since 1973.
Ahead of the exhibition, Vivienne said: “Shoes must have very high heels and platforms to put women’s beauty on a pedestal.”
Joanna Hashagen, keeper of textiles at the Bowes Museum, said all the pieces of footwear, including the infamous ‘Super Elevated Gillie’ shoes, were “works of art in themselves”.
She said: “We all know about how fantastic her clothes are, but this is the first time anyone has really focused on her shoe collection.
“They are just staggering – and they are made from everything, anything you could think of.
“When you see them, you see they are sculptures, they are works of art in themselves.”
Visitors have until 10 July to catch the exhibition before it moves to Japan, New York and China.

Marc Jacobs thinks Alexander Wang is “great”.
The American fashion designer – who has been creative director of Louis Vuitton since 1997 – praised the Taiwanese clothing creator, along with other youngsters in the industry, and admitted there is “always room” for new starters in fashion.
He said: “People ask me about the younger designers, Alex Wang and all of them, I think they’re great. I couldn’t do what they do. It’s not what I do.
“But just like in pop music and in the art world, people always want new work from the artist that they like but they also want new artists. I don’t think one changes the other.
“There’s always room for new designers, new musicians, new artists, new writers. Madonna, I don’t think is showing any signs of slowing down, but that doesn’t mean Lady Gaga isn’t taking over the world.”
Marc – who was announced as the winner of the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement prize earlier this year – admitted his company Marc Jacobs, for which he is head designer, has improved with age.
He added to WWD.com: “Going through the learning process and working here and in Paris, I personally think we’ve built a strength in terms of editing.
“We’re all in this because we love fashion and part of that love for fashion is being unapologetic.”

Erin O’ Connor regrets waxing her eyebrows so much.
The supermodel says she always felt pressured to tame her eyebrows by make-up artists in the past but has now learnt to accept her natural look.
She said: “I’ve allowed too many make-up artists to wax my eyebrows! I’ve decided that I’m meant to look Neanderthal. There’s something comforting about furry eyebrows.”
While the 33-year-old beauty loves being a model she insists she doesn’t take fashion too seriously.
She told Stylist magazine: “I don’t try to live a life away from modelling as such – I’m still excitable over fashion. But there’s a cut-off point. I think it’s important you embrace a character at work so you can keep hold of reality. When I leave a shoot, I brush out my hair and take off my make-up.
There have been many frantic Tube rides home with the wet wipes. I’ll go home and put on more make-up which seems silly, but it’s self-preservation; it’s my version of me.”

Giles Deacon is a fan of statement jewellery.
The fashion designer – who, along with London jewellery star Hannah Martin, led a judging panel to find the winner of the Central Saint Martins Palladium Jewellery Design earlier this week – says he likes pieces that stand out and can transform an outfit as well being something most people could wear.
Speaking about why he crowned Leigh Cameron as the overall winner for his stunning ring – which was made from the rare and precious metal palladium – Giles said: “I did make my final decision very quickly, actually. It was very much an initiative thing with me. It was something that was very kind of quality instant, very, very strong. I like statement jewellery and something that many people could wear and you don’t need a manual to understand and I think the one I chose did that.”
Giles said he was hugely impressed with the competition – a collaboration between Palladium Alliance International and Masters Design students specialising in Jewellery Ceramics and Furniture at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design – and the work everyone produced.
He said: “The work that has been presented by Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design MA Design and Jewellery students using palladium is as I would have hoped , inventive, beautiful and directional.”

Dame Vivienne Westwood constantly questions why she is still working in fashion.
The British designer – who is credited with launching the UK’s punk scene in the 1970s – is not sure if she has made a conscious decision to develop her style and is just pleased to have done “so many” collections.
She said: “I don’t know if I have developed in any specific way. I always tend to like my latest collection best. I’ve done so many and I keep thinking, ‘Why do you need to keep on doing this?’ ”
The 69-year-old fashion legend also reveals the key to maintaining a successful talent is always reading, something she would encourage new designers to do.
She told the New York Post newspaper: “This is the secret: reading. A young person might be talented and can make two great collections, but then they dry up. You have to have culture.
“If not, where do you get your ideas? If you don’t understand the past, you don’t understand the world. By knowing what has been done, you know what’s possible.”
