We’ve been spotting some bright colours mixed with soft fabrics on the likes of Amanda Seyfried, Iman and Sarah Jessica Parker of late and there’s only one designer to blame.
Prabal Gurung is fairly new to the fashion world launching his collection in February 2009. However, his Spring/Summer 2012 collection which comprised of sheer fabrics, with a hint of ethnicity, marked the seventh season for the American designer.
His designs clearly reflect his roots – he was born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal before studying in New Delhi. And it’s not just prints the designer does well with classic block colour frocks also a favourite of ours.
See the gallery below for star fans, SS 2012 collections and where to buy.

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks showed off her killer curves in a classic Hollywood silver silk gown with beautiful crystal detailing
Fashion Week may be over for the Yanks, with the fun having crossed over the pond to Laaahn-dahn, but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing going on in the States, oh no – in fact, while we were all poring over the latest Henry Holland collection on the Vogue site last night, apparently a little something called the Emmy Awards was going on..
All the long-standing Hollywood superstars were there as well as the young talent: I don’t know if Lea Michele was trying to copy Kate Winslet, who’s clearly been in the red-carpet game for a long time, or what, but the young Glee actress turned up smouldering in a simple scarlet evening dress that was actually very similar to Kate’s Emmy dress. We hope they hit each other with their handbags later in the evening.
Another Glee star in attendance was the adorable Jayma Mays, who was definitely channelling a ballerina vibe in her long ruffled and tiered sugar-pink gown which worked perfectly with her strawberry-blonde hair and berry lips. Following suit with a romantic, feminine look was Heidi Klum with her hubby Seal, showing off a crazy post-summer tan in a statement ruffled nude cocktail dress.
Opting for a more classic Hollywood vibe (it is the Emmys, after all) was the beautiful Christina Hendricks, who, fresh from causing a stir with her impressive cleavage at the première of I Don’t Know How She Does It last week, smouldered last night in an incredible slit-skirt silver evening gown covered in crystalline embellishments for a look reminiscent of old movie stars like Jean Harlow. We love. To be honest, we’re so obsessed with the woman that we might go dye our hair red and eat a tub of Ben & Jerry’s right now.
Also taking the old Hollywood fashion path was Gwyneth Paltrow, who showed off her enviably tight abs in a floor-sweeping black beaded dress with a cutout at the midriff. Pretty much all we need to say about that is that Gwynnie looked in-cred-i-ble.
To see who we spotted at the Emmy Awards yesterday, and what the stars were wearing, check out the gallery above.

Nicole Scherzinger performs during the launch of the Westfield Stratford City, London
London-based shopping junkies will be happy to hear that there’s a new outlet for your addiction opening today, as the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford finally opened it’s doors today with plenty of fanfare.
Boris Johnson was there (bless him) wearing his trademark crooked tie and blonde thatch of hair, but that’s all we can pass comment on about our Mayor’s style – the less said the better really. More dynamically dressed was Nicole Sherzinger, who put on an incredibly energetic and raunchy performance in a fetish-look black and red PVC coat with fringed sleeves, which she later changed out of in exchange for a sexy black pencil dress.
Pixie Geldof was there for the proceedings alongside Channel 4′s Nick Grimshaw – Pixie looked cute and cool with white-blonde corkscrew curls and a simple black and white polka dot dress with scarily high court heels. Kelly Brook was also there looking very sunkissed and sexy in a black and gold mini-dress to show off the golden glow of her post-summer legs. Cow.
The Westfield shop is going to be absolutely ginormous, with apparently over 300 shops opening there and over 70 restaurants. I think I might get down there myself right now..

Elizabeth Olsen has revealed that her two biggest style inspirations are the actresses Diane Keaton and Katharine Hepburn.
Elizabeth, who is the younger sister of the famous Olsen twins, has recently been popping up on our style radar in a mixture of vintage-style maxis and European fashion. But it’s not her older sisters that she looks to for inspiration – it’s the icons of the silver screen.
She said: “I always love Diane Keaton and Katherine Hepburn. [Mary-Kate and Ashley always tell me] to always feel comfortable. Their advice is just like, kind of focus on your work and not let anything else come between you and what you want to do and who you are. We don’t actually talk about work much, but they’re just great people and supportive and inspiring and creative.”
For those who don’t know, Katharine Hepburn commandeered masculine dressing in her era and was one of the first women to publicly wear trousers as a fashion statement, while Diane Keaton is famous for her bohemian role as Woody Allen’s love in Annie Hall. Elizabeth has good taste.

Keira Knightley opted for her trademark romantic look in this gorgeous crystal lace dress at the Toronto Film Festival
With it being both the fashion season and the film festival season at the moment, it’s a pretty good time for sneaking peeks at celebs’ best red carpet and party outfits. Today we weren’t let down at all by what we found.
Keira Knightley was spotted at the Toronto International Film Festival looking absolutely amazing in a nude lace crystal dress, with a sleek dark bob and angelic make up. We think that’s an Elie Saab dress that she’s wearing, lucky girl, but we could be wrong.. This is definitely a look that really works for her – we’re glad she sticks to it. We also spotted Emily Blunt looking quite foxy in a halter-necked black jumpsuit which looked cool with her laidback wavy hair and smoky eyes.
Meanwhile as New York Fashion Week continues, we spotted the Charmed actress Rose McGowan looking extremely sultry in an amazing magenta structured cocktail dress which matched the colour of her lipstick. This is one actress we never thought would come zooming back into our style radar, but we’re often surprised.. Meanwhile, the statuesque Heidi Klum towered over Christian Siriano backstage in a clinging back dress with a sheer chiffon skirt.
The Worst Dressed In The World EVER Award goes to Kelly Osbourne, who rocked up to Fashion’s Night Out in Chicago wearing a red rubber T-shirt. I don’t think I need to say any more than that.
To see who we’ve been spotting, check out the gallery above.

The actress Diane Kruger says that she likes to experiment with and change up her look a lot, because she hates how all the other women in Los Angeles look the same.
Diane, who’s previously been a Chanel muse and a model, obviously has had a lot of influence from her stints in the fashion industry.
The actress said: “I don’t have my own stylist. And I like to be a little different – in LA, everyone wears the same dresses.I think my background as a model helps, because I like experimenting and I’m not afraid of fashion or what other people think of me.”
She continued: “Sure, I’ve worn dresses people didn’t like, but I enjoy the expression of clothes. What you wear is one of the only things about yourself you can manipulate.” Testify!
Diane is one of our all-time favourite dressers so it’s good to hear her point of view on fashion. May you always be our red-carpet queen!

Katie Price has slagged off Cheryl Cole’s sense of style in her new magazine, “Katie”. Excuse me while I split my sides laughing. Oh goodness, where do I even begin..
The failed fashion designer, model, novelist and singer has now turned her hand to running her own magazine “Katie” – which apparently includes bitchy commentary about other celebrities, and right now Cheryl Cole is in the firing line for that colour-blocked orange and purple outfit that she wore during her brief stint as a judge for the US X Factor.
Katie furiously (ghost)wrote about Cheryl’s admittedly bad fashion choices: “The whole thing is absolutely hideous. I don’t know who’s responsible for the outfit and the horrific hair but I hope Cheryl sacked them. It looks like she’s put on weight.” Madam Price, I am sorry but you are the last person who can talk about horrific hair.
The ex page three girl also slammed Cheryl’s bandmate Nicola Roberts for her fashion choices. “She always gets it wrong. She is trying to be unique but she doesn’t have the confidence to carry it off.” Katie, you can’t carry anything off.
The whole thing is a little bit ridiculous, and the only words that came to mind when I read this gossip was “Pot. Kettle. Black.” Am I right?

The singer Adele has admitted that she’s dying to have Christopher Bailey, creative director of Burberry, style her for the next upcoming awards season.
Adele is already having a major fashion moment right now, having just made the cover of UK Vogue – but we think seeing the singer decked out in Burberry would be the icing on the cake. Apparently, they’re already planning a style collaboration. Oh, to be a celebrity…
The Someone Like You singer told Vogue: “I love old school. Chanel, Prada, you know. And Burberry, definitely. I’ve met Christopher Bailey a few times. He’s definitely going to dress me for the next lot of awards – if I’m nominated. I’ve always loved Burberry. I remember saving for three years to get my first bag before I got signed. Five hundred quid, I think it was, made of canvas with the logo like a satchel.”
Okay, now I’m just gonna put something out there. Burberry, if you get bored of styling Adele, I’d also like to be styled by you for awards season. I know I won’t be invited or anything – just something beautiful to wear while I watch it on TV, really… No? Oh, okay then.

Kate (far right) shines at the Costume Institute Gala in New York alongside Liv Tyler, Stella McCartney and Kate Hudson. We absolutely adore her peekaboo black gown
In light of Kate Bosworth’s newly-revealed rule of only wearing creations by fashion designers with good manners, we thought we’d have a look over the actress’ recent style file. One thing we can say about her is that she always looks fashion-perfect right down to the tippy-toes, whether she’s in a cool Jil Sander maxi skirt or a Lanvin evening gown for the red carpet.
What we like about Kate is that she is a girl who doesn’t shy away from colour – and she shouldn’t, with her ice-blonde 1940s hair and peachy colouring, this is one girl who was born to experiment with her look. We particularly love Kate in a cool peppermint-green Jil Sander skirt with a classic white T-shirt to contrast against hot pink lipstick, or Kate in a delicate white lace Erdem dress with splashes of vibrant, hot red.
This is one woman who was born to wear high fashion. Miss Bosworth – ShinyStyle salutes you.

Alexa Chung says that 60s-style clothes flatter her slender figure best.
The model and TV presenter has a fondness for classic 60s fashion because it was a decade that favoured leggy, gamine girls such as Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy who have a similar figure to Alexa’s.
Alexa told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “My ex-boyfriend [photographer David Titlow] showed me Antonioni’s 1966 film ‘Blow-Up’ in my late teens. I remember seeing Jane Birkin. And I couldn’t believe it. She even made just wearing a pair of tights look sexy. . . I think the 60s vibe suits my body type, which is skinny legs and a boyish frame. It’s the groupie vibe that I’m attracted to. They had these amazing love affairs, and both the men and the women were made amazing by them. The girls in the 60s were never overshadowed by the men they dated. You can talk about Jean Shrimpton without having to mention Bailey or Terence Stamp first.”
Alexa understandably tried to distance herself from her classic 60s dress sense because every teenage girl in the UK began copying her – oh, the perils of being a style icon! She said about the Alexa copycats: “I fell out of love with the 60s for a while. I think because I was so identified with it. It’s like Sienna Miller when she did boho, then suddenly stopped because she was like, ‘F**k. What else can I do, because I’ve done it?’ Everyone copied my sodding coat for a while too. It was my Harrods kid’s vintage one. Every girl suddenly had one and I was like, ‘Arrgh!’ I got really bored of smock dresses and loafers for a while. But I feel like I’m ready to fall in love all over again.”
Yeah, I feel like that whenever thousands of teenage girls suddenly start dressing like me too, Alexa. I totally feel your pain.

Supermodel Cindy Crawford went for a scorching European look in bright scarlet
Mamma mia, the Venice International Film Festival is upon us once more, and the stars certainly pulled out all the stops for this big red-carpet event.
Top style snaps have to go to Thirteen Evan Rachel Wood for completely stealing the show in a long white shirt-gown with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and Bulgari jewellery. Pure Italian glamour all the way – this is one girl that knows how to dress up, and dress up well. We also loved her hair. While in the past the beautiful actress has opted for long, sculptured 40s waves, for the Film Festival she went for a short, sleek crop slicked back in a masculine ‘do.
Diane Kruger refused to be outshone by Evan, however, and looked like a fairytale in a sparkle-encrusted Elie Saab gown with silver peep-toes and loose, girlish wavy hair. Diane never fails to dazzle us with her red carpet style. Another winner was the actress Marisa Tomei, whose elegant draped mustard dress earned her some serious fashion respect from us.
Representing the models of the glitterati was everyone’s favourite supermodel, Cindy Crawford, showing us that she’s still got it even if the 90s are over in a one-shouldered scarlet Roberto Cavalli evening gown and effortlessly teased hair. Meanwhile, Bianca Brandolini looked sexy in a long-sleeved leopard print gown with a ruffled hem and caramel-coloured hair.
Providing arm candy for the girls’ press pictures was the lovely Mr George Clooney, who looked all twinkly and foxy in a lovely classic tuxedo with his silvery hair slicked back. George, you don’t get older, you just get better.
Check out who we spotted at the Venice Film Festival in the gallery.

Alexa Chung has said that she finds the term “It girl” flattering, not insulting.
The 27-year-old TV presenter and model said: “It made me uncomfortable at the beginning … I always thought of ‘It’ girls as daughters of rich patriarchs who like to freeload. Now I think it’s a very nice compliment but it applies to a moment in time. One day I’ll be an old lady showing my children photos, going, ‘Look, I used to matter.’ I’m just enjoying the moment.”
Alexa is one of our absolute best style icons that the UK has – her clever combinations of boyish androgyny and classic, beautiful couture and vintage has got every teenage girl across the country in a spin.
The phrase is normally a slightly snide reference to a rich, pretty “DADDY BOUGHT ME TEN PONIES” kind of girl that is famous for not doing anything. But we have to say that Alexa is more than just that.. after all, she’s masterminding her own television show! Plus without her we wouldn’t all have dip-dyed hair or brogues.
We absolutely can’t wait for her new 24 Hour Catwalk show to hit our television screens.

Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed that one of her top style icons is our very own Kate Middleton, now the Duchess of Cambridge. When SJP was asked to name her favourite style icons, the I Don’t Know How She Does It actress replied: “So many. Ingrid Bergman & the way Kate Moss dresses & the Duchess of Cambridge. It seems that K-Middy is having just as much an effect on the United States’ wardrobes as she is on ours!
As we all know, Sarah Jessica is a total style icon in her own right after playing Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. When asked what her favourite Carrie fashion moment was, she replied: “The tutu in Paris. It was a real tutu & I’m sure it was from the Royal Ballet.”
The actress is always a familiar face at London Fashion Week because, as we all know, she loves the British fashion industry for its quirks. However, perhaps she’ll stay at home this year as she thinks that the American fashion industry is getting more daring. She said: “British fashion is more risky but we have some emerging American designers that seem inspired in that direction.”
And will SJP, freshly inspired by Kate Middleton, ever venture into fashion design again? “Definitely if I can figure out what it is I want to do.” Watch this space.

Katy Perry looked pretty and girlish with her new pink 'do in a chinoise-style dress and a pastel blue parasol
Whether you watched the VMAs on Saturday night or not, it’s always fun to have a peep at what the stars wore to one of the USA’s biggest A-list events.
Katy Perry, who came away smiling like the cat got the cream with three awards, went through more than one outfit change but our absolute favourite quirky Katy look for the night has to be the girlish Eastern-style powder blue chinoise dress, which looked cute and cartoonish with her pink hair and a matching pastel-coloured parasol.
As we all now know, Beyonce glowed with new-baby happiness all the way down the red carpet in a sizzling one-shouldered, draped orange maxi with her hair swept to one side, vintage-style. We loved her chandelier earrings too – pure 70s Halston glamour. Meanwhile, our favourite home-grown talent Adele also rocked a look from a different decade as she went for a clinging black midi-dress with huge 60s hair and makeup. Perfect.
Katie Holmes sassed it out on the red carpet with expertly teased waves and a black lace skater dress and tan suede wedge boots, while poor old Jessie J still looked sexy and upbeat despite her crutches in a jewelled black corset-body and a pair of white jewelled Bebaroque tights.
To see all these celebs and more, check out the gallery above to see who we spotted at the VMAs.

Anne Hathaway looked elegant and poised in a form-fitting white lace dress
I don’t know about you, but weepy romantic films like One Day are not my bag. (I know this is totally unfair because I haven’t actually seen One Day, but I saw enough meaningful glances and lines like ,”I love you Dexter… I just don’t like you anymore..” to get the picture.) Having said that, I love a good premiere, especially one Anne Hathaway is at.
Anne looked every inch the star at yesterday’s première in an incredibly elegant fitted midi-dress made out of white lace, worn with nude heels and 40s-inspired starlet hair. Her co-star, Ramola Garai, looked like a vintage siren in a black lace cocktail dress and smoky eye-makeup. Also looking quite romantic was Peaches Geldof attending the event with her new boyfriend, Thomas Cohen. Peaches looked very airy-fairy in a wafting nude maxi dress with chiffon cape sleeves and crystal detailing.
“Made In Chelsea” star Millie Mackintosh looked like a FINE FILLY in a pair of high-waisted leather shorts to show off her St Tropez tan, worn with a chic grey tweed jacket that we’re almost definite is Chanel. Also rocking a more informal, smart-casual look was MTV’s Lauren Whitmore who turned up in a cool, slouchy men’s tuxedo jacket with a miniskirt for a sexy twist on the current androgynous trend. Elly Jackson was also there in a mad brocade coat.
Our top style points go to the actress Jodie Whittaker, who looked SO elegant and beautiful in a very structured, high-necked white dress with long sleeves to show off her slim figure. Jodie teamed the dress with some statement black and silver heels and a silver clutch for a clean and modern look.
Check out the gallery above to see who we spotted at the “One Day” première and what they wore.
