Models and designers create bears to help blind teenagers get a feel for fashion

By Andrea Petrou on January 26th, 2010

Bears.jpgFashion designers and models have designed a range of bears to help blind teenagers get a feel for fashion.

Twiggy, Betty Jackson, Lulu Guinness, Vivienne Westwood and Matthew Williamson have designed and dressed Steiff Bears for the charity Living Paintings, which helps blind children and adults. The bears will be auctioned at the V&A on the evening of February 25th 2010 and the proceeds will help the charity develop new feely images to help blind teenagers get to grips with the fashion choices open to them.

Lulu Guinness who designed her bear to wear her signature colours of black, white and red, said: “My bear is wearing one of my Beret purses on his head, with a lovely black and white stripey bow around his neck and I’ve put him inside one of my tote bags. I thought it was fun to inject an element of fashion into my bear design, because I believe Fashion is something that should not be taken too seriously. I hope that blind teenagers can interact with this and enjoy.”

If you want to get your hands on one of these bears then call Living Paintings on 01635 299771. Bids for any of the bears can be taken on the night in person or by phone, or in advance.

Tateossian donates 10% of jewellery sales to helping victims of the Haiti earthquake

By Andrea Petrou on January 22nd, 2010

Tate.jpgWe’re all shocked and saddened by the events taking place in Haiti at the moment, and like many have donated as much as we can to the relief efforts.

However, we know more can always be done so we’re thrilled that fashion companies are beginning to take the initiative and donate some profits to help the victims of the earthquakes.

One brand to do this is Tateossian who has said it will donate 10% of all the sales from its chunky and gold jewellery lines to Rapid UK who are currently helping the thousands of people who’s lives have been destroyed by the earthquake.

We think its a perfect excuse to get online and start buying now.

ANTM: Models go green and red–charity and recycling

By Andrea Thatcher on October 25th, 2007

ANTM5.jpg
On Wednesday’s America’s Next Top Model, the girls got a surprise visit from Mr. Hottie himself: Tyson Beckford. He taught them to take anything and sell it, which the girls did, but much ogling was going on! He was a bit naughty!

The first challenge broke the girls into three teams to create and perform a PSA for Keep A Child Alive AIDS charity organization. All the girls did a great job with creativity, with Ambreal, Heather and Jenah winning products from ‘Carol’s Daughter.’ This win also included a hidden bonus. Lisa Price, founder of the beauty line Carol’s Daughter, did a random pull of the three, where Heather won a photo shoot with Mary J. Blige. She was very excited, and with great direction from the photographer, she finally faced the camera head-on for some amazing shots!

Retail giant Gap is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the global launch of (Product) Red, their campaign to help stop the AIDS epidemic in Africa. On Friday, Gap stores and Gap.com introduced the 2 Weeks T-shirt, a limited-edition shirt. The idea behind the campaign is that the proceeds from the sale of one shirt are equivalent to the cost of antiretroviral medication for an African afflicted with AIDS for two weeks. According to Hansen, Gap donates half of all profits from the sale of (Product) Red items to Global Fund to help AIDS programs that focus on children and women.
The new (Product) Red Gap campaign was shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz and features stars like John Legend and Anne Hathaway.
