This is definitely a case of buying a fragrance just for the bottle. For the lead-up to Christmas, Comme des Garcons have released a special edition version of their most popular fragrance. Comme des Garcons 2 ‘Glitter’ comes in a purple glittery bottle, and although all of their fragrances are puportedly unisex, we think this one would look nicest on our dressing table.
With notes of amber, cumin, incense and cedarwood, it’s not subtle, and would suit someone who wants their fragrance to get them noticed – and who likes their perfume bottles to stand out, too. The 50ml eau de parfum costs £44.50, and is available at major central London department stores (and the Leeds Harvey Nichols).
Here in the States the reception towards Comme des Garcon for H&M may have been a little lukewarm, compared to the Tokyo reaction, but that didn’t stop tempers from flaring at the New York launch. Two shoppers let their determination to own one of the polka dot scarves get the better of them, resulting in a tug of war breaking out inside the store. Watched on by amused crowds, the pair fought openly for the scarf until a shop assistant was forced to intervene. Who said shopping wasn’t a competitive sport? Click play above to watch.
Compared to reports from Tokyo, the US reception of the Comme des Garcons for H&M collection was tame. By 11:00 this morning the 5th Avenue store had calmed down, and you could shop pretty easily. If you wanted to.
As ShinyStyler Sharon said, “it really isn’t that great and pretty expensive.” So it looks like the rumors of overpricing were not exaggerated.
But for the die-hard Comme des Garcons fan, it’s still a unique opportunity to own a piece from your favorite designer.

Comme des Garçons for H&M madness has hit Tokyo with the debut launch of the capsule collection. Thousands of customers, eager to get their mitts on the collaborative range, waited for up to 14 hours in the rain. The reaction mimicked that of Kate Moss for Topshop’s April 2007 launch, as Rei Kawakubo gave her fellow compatriots the first taste of her H&M collection. For those of us not in Tokyo, and not Katie Holmes or Nicky Hilton, then we must hold out until Thursday. Check out the video above to see the reaction as the collection was unveiled in Japan, as well as expert opinions from the likes of Hilary Alexander.
Okay, so we know that being the style-savvy folks that you are, you have already seen the full line from Comme des Garçons for H&M. But have you seen the actual lookbook… eh? No relief has come in terms of the prices – which have been said to be ridiculously high. So we’re kind of hoping the blogosphere backlash will have them rethinking some of them. For now, sit back and enjoy our gallery of images courtesy of Rei Kawakubo’s forthcoming collection for the retailer – oh, and don’t forget to tell us what you think by leaving your comments. Time to sharpen those elbows and invest in some body padding. H&M has announced that high-fashion Japanese label Comme des Garcons will be creating a line for the low-priced retailer.
If past big-name collaborations are any indication, it will be hard to get your hands on these pieces without a fight.
“Floofy frocks! Rampant ruffles! Distressed fringing! Minimalism was clearly not the word at Comme des Garçons’ catwalk show for Paris Fashion Week… although all this excess material was not put in the more, er, conventional places. Cut-out panels and artful placements exposed bare midriffs and torsos, and there were many variations on a theme: three tuxedo jackets with varying sizes of missing panels, for example, and black skirts of different lengths sharing similar risqué cutaway top-halves.”
New York and London are behind us, Milan is winding down, and the next stop is Paris! The fashion capital is getting ready to present its fall 2008 Pret-a-Porter collections, many of which are held at the Le Carrousel du Louvre, above.
The shows start Saturday, but we’re most looking forward to Christian Dior, who shows Monday along with Vivienne Westwood and Yohji Yamamoto. For the schedule of more highlights we’re looking forward to, keep reading.
