Leona Lewis joined by William Tempest in her search for the next big ethical designer

By Andrea Petrou on November 8th, 2011

Leona Lewis has been joined by William Tempest in her search for the next big ethical designer.

The Bleeding Love hitmaker – who has teamed up with Talenthouse to launch a competition for young fashionistas to submit ideas for a new environmentally-friendly stage outfit for her to wear – will now be accompanied on her mission to find a rival to Stella McCartney by both British designer William and UK Glamour editor Jo Elvin.

Leona said: “I’m extremely thrilled to be joined by Jo and William. They are two people who are leaders in the field of fashion and that I’ve had the privilege of working with before.

“They take this competition to a whole new level.”

With William having dressed the likes of Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and Emma Watson throughout his career as a designer and Jo having overseen thousands of fashion shoots during her time at the helm of Glamour magazine, the pair will help Leona pick out a future designer of tomorrow.

The winning design will be brought to life by a team of professionals and Leona will wear the outfit during an upcoming performance later in the year.

She also choose two runners up who will have their designs featured across her website and social media sites and receive $350 each.

Entries must be submitted by November 17th, and the winner will be announced on December 1st.

Dolce and Gabbana launch T-shirt design contest with Kylie Minogue.

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

Dolce and Gabbana have launched a T-shirt design contest with Kylie Minogue.

Fans are asked to design a T-shirt inspired by the ‘All the Lovers’ singer’s ‘Aphrodite: Les Folies Tour’ with the winning design being worn by the star at a photo shoot.

The design will also be featured on websites www.kylie.com, www.dolcegabbana.it and www.swide.com and the signed garment worn by Kylie will be presented to the designer.

A statement on talenthouse.com explained how the winner will be picked, saying: “Kylie Minogue, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will select the winning design from the pool of outstanding entries.

“The 50 top-voted submissions will be considered, but the winning entry may be selected from the larger pool of submissions.”

Dolce and Gabbana designed all the clothing for the ‘Aphrodite: Les Folies Tour’ which started in Denmark in February.

Kylie – who has had chart hits since her debut single ‘ I Should Be So Lucky’ in 1988 – recently said she felt the creativity of her elaborate live shows has had a direct influence on Lady Gaga,

She said: “I set the benchmark for Gaga. We’ve done it before, with all our creative shows, and now the new artists are following us.

“She inspires me and I love what she does. But we’ve done it before. I had the Aphrodite theme and no one has done that before. Think outside the box is what I do, and that’s what keeps it fresh for me. I set the benchmark and now I can’t wait to see what the new talent will do next.”

The T-shirt design competition is open until May 11, with the winner announced on May 18.

Giles Deacon judges Jewellery design comp

By Andrea Petrou on March 31st, 2011

Giles Deacon led a judging panel to find the winner of the Central Saint Martins Palladium Jewellery Design competition last night (30.03.11).

The renowned fashion designer was joined on the panel by London jewellery star Hannah Martin and after looking at the bespoke work of the five finalists, they crowned Leigh Cameron as the overall winner in a glamorous ceremony at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts.

The stunning winning ring, made from the rare and precious metal palladium, was inspired by large architectural shapes and the talented student said: “It has been an amazing experience, I never thought that I would win and as I am studying furniture, designing jewellery is a whole new experience for me. Working with Palladium has been fantastic and I look forward to working with it again in the future.”

Giles said he was hugely impressed with the competition – a collaboration between Palladium Alliance International and Masters Design students specialising Jewellery Ceramics and Furniture at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design – and the work everyone produced.

He said: “The work that has been presented by Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design MA Design and Jewellery students using palladium is as I would have hoped , inventive, beautiful and directional.”

Part of the Platinum family, Palladium is naturally white and light making it an ideal contemporary choice for jewellery.

Guests at the party included model Jade Parfitt, actor Mathew Horne and Kelly Osbourne’s ex, Luke Worrall.

Competition: Win two tickets to Farm Festival

By Elaine LaPersonerie on July 23rd, 2010

farm festival.jpgFor those of you who’ve been bitterly weeping into your unworn wellies this summer, cursing all your friends who’ve had the cash to swan off to all the biggest festivals such as Glastonbury, there’s still time for you to get a taste of festival life.

Farm Festival, the two-day event set in a farm -yes, a farm – in Bruton, Somerset, is an intimate event that will probably end up the most fun you’ve ever had in your life, ever. This year is going to be my first time (how poignant) but I’m friends of FF veterans who go every year and love it. The line-up is featuring such fun, danceable bands as Wild Palms, The Electric and Egyptian Hip Hop, whilst in the day time there’s going to be childish delights such as Punch and Judy, Arts and Crafts and face painting. Like a retro primary-school summer fete, but with cider and dancing.

I should also warn those interested in going now that there is a very important rule that must be adhered to, and that’s wearing a hat. Hats are compulsory, and the crazier the better – the best hat-wearers will be awarded prizes at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on Sunday.

Sounds kind of cool, right? Tickets are a snip at £35 each (that’s with free camping, yay) and can be bought on WeGotTickets.com. However, if you’re a bit skint but still want to go, the lovely makers of Farmfestival have kindly donated two tickets for you and a friend to be won in an online raffle organised by Topman. All you have to do is click here and follow the simple instructions to enter.

For those of you that want to go, I’ll be there covering the festival for Shiny Style. So happy camping, and I’ll see you all next week.
