Kelly Brook likes to show off her curves in classic outfits

By Andrea Petrou on October 20th, 2011

Kelly Brook likes to invest in classic pieces.

The stunning model is famed for her curvy figure and says over time she has started buying items that will last and suit her body shape.

She said: “I buy a lot more classic pieces that will last and I’ve learnt what suits me – anything that nips me in at the waist works because I’m curvy. My style is feminine, sexy and classic with a nod to the 50s.”

However, Kelly says good underwear is a must when wearing any dress.

She said: “My tips for dressing curves are good fitted underwear. It’s all about the foundations girls!”

With the Christmas party season coming up, the 31-year-old beauty also gave tips on what is the perfect festive dress.

She told Closer magazine: “Glitz and sparkle! But one that accentuates the part of your body you love the most.

“Sophia Loren once said, ‘A dress should be like a barbed wire fence. Serving its purpose without obstructing the view.”

Pamela Anderson is to release her own range of lingerie

By Andrea Petrou on July 25th, 2011

Pamela Anderson is to release her own range of lingerie.

The former ‘Baywatch’ babe – who recently launched a collection of stockings – has signed a global licensing deal with Secrets in Lace to produce, market and distribute the line and ahs promised buyers won’t be disappointed.

The mother-of-two told WWD: “I am very pleased with the initial collection. I love every one of the styles because they cover every fashion occasion. I’ve always loved lingerie. I like to dress up. Fantasy is something I respond to. There’s a time and a place. Usually if I can’t find a place, it’s not worth my time.

“I have an incredibly diverse collection of lingerie. I actually have too much tucked away in storage. I haven’t bought lingerie in a long time – building my house took much longer than it should have. Now it’s done, it will be a wild playground soon enough, my lair, my boudoir. Anyone who enters – beware.”

Daniel Whitsett, president of Secrets in Lace, added: “We liked the idea that Pam is very into being a mom with two boys and very into being a woman. We’ve been very active and successful with retro looks. All of our 15-denier and 10-denier stockings are made with machinery from the 1950s, and the yarn is 100 percent nylon because Lycra can’t be used with these machines. We like to say ‘guaranteed to run’ because the deniers are so fine.”

Christina Hendricks will design her own line of swimwear

By Andrea Petrou on July 25th, 2011

Christina Hendricks will design her own line of swimwear.

The ‘Mad Men’ actress is known for her curvy figure, but has revealed in the past her fuller chest and small waist make it difficult to source suitable beachwear and as a result she has decided to create her own collection.

An insider told The Mail on Sunday newspaper: “Christina is a US size 10 and weighs 154lbs but she can’t find a swimsuit that compliments her figure. So she started designing her own and is in talks to sign a deal. She loves her curves and doesn’t want to lose weight.

“She wanted to create something other women can wear too. The plan is to start with swimwear and move into underwear and her own clothing line.”

Christina has previously complained about the difficulty in finding suitable swimwear for her fuller figure.

She said: “It’s really hard to find a bathing suit if you have breasts. You either get smooshed down or there’s no support.”

The 36-year-old actress also revealed her problems extend to finding dresses to wear to red carpet events.

She added: “I have to be careful about my proportions and keep it simple. What works for me is structure and something that shows my waist.

“No one will send me dresses. Designers loan size 2 or 4 samples to actresses, but I’m not that size.

“It’s like I’m a freak because I’m curvy and I can’t squeeze into those things. I’ve had some problems with that.”

Gemma Arterton says it’s hard to find clothes that suit her curvy figure

By Andrea Petrou on July 7th, 2011

Gemma Arterton says it’s hard to find clothes that suit her curvy figure.

The stunning actress admits she sometimes struggles to find outfits that flatter her hourglass body and can’t just wear anything so often relies on Italian fashion house Gucci.

She said: “My shape means I can’t throw on an outfit. Gucci tends to design best for my hourglass figure.”

Gemma is also a fan of tailored jackets as they go with any outfit.

She told Britain’s Vogue magazine: “I wear my tailored jackets to death – Armani, Givenchy and Margiela.”

As well as wearing certain clothes, Gemma also sticks to the same perfume and make-up.

She said: “I do love a red lip – Nars Jungle Red is my favourite.

“My scents always have hints of Jasmine. Right now, it’s Balenciaga Paris – it’s floral, light and musky.”

Gemma has previously admitted she likes to keep her style simple.

She said: “For me it’s kind of simple really. I don’t really go for anything too embellished or fancy or frilly or girly and it has to be easy because I haven’t got time for anything that’s too difficult!

“I just like putting on a pair jeans and jacket and going, although I do like heels – I’ve got a passion for shoes, but I always end up wearing the one same pair of shoes. But it works with my lifestyle because I’m always running around so it doesn’t work for me to wear tight skirts and corsets, or whatever it is! Jeans are definitely the way forward.”

Kimberley Walsh says she is inspired by curvy women like Beyonce Knowles when she dresses.

By Andrea Petrou on May 23rd, 2011

Kimberley Walsh says she is inspired by curvy women like Beyonce Knowles when she dresses.

The shapely Girls Aloud singer said she chooses clothes that suit her figure and looks to other celebrities such as Beyonce and Halle Berry for ideas.

The beautiful pop star, who is dating Justin Scott, said: “I guess I tend to look towards curvier women like Beyonce and see what looks good on them. And Halle Berry also has a great body. If I had her figure I don’t think I’d complain!”

The 29 year old – who is taking a break from music to build a career as a TV presenter – added she likes to dress to a 50s style to flatter her shape – and she has learned not to get too hung up on her body flaws.

She said: “I always dress to suit my shape. I won’t wear a trend if it doesn’t suit my figure. I love that whole 50s style, mainly because it suits my body shape, rather than it being a trend.

“I’d like to have longer legs – but wouldn’t everyone? It’s just the way it is. But they probably wouldn’t look right with the rest of my shape anyway!”

Dita Von Teese to create her underwear range

By Andrea Petrou on April 14th, 2011

Dita Von Teese is set to release her first lingerie range under her own name.

The burlesque star has signed a global licensing agreement with Australia’s Lime Door Brands for a collection of underwear to appear with her name.

As part of the deal, Dita and the branding firm will also become co-owners of other brands, including a line of dresses.

Dita, 38, told WWD: “I’m delighted to be in the process of creating both a line of retro-glamorous clothing and lingerie.”

The brands will first be introduced to Australia later this year, with plans to expand to the UK, then other markets later.

Michele Hamdorf, CEO of Lime Door, said: “Dita Von Teese is world-renowned as a burlesque performer. She is probably best described as an old-school Hollywood siren.

“Her success has been based on her strong head for business and her distinctiveness. As a brand strategist and developer, I am certain that our collaboration will prove similarly successful.”

The star’s raunchy performances often see her in little more than scant underwear, and she has previously spoken about the importance of wearing fancy smalls.

She said: “Indulging in elegant lingerie isn’t about the seduction of another person, it’s about seducing yourself first and embracing womanhood and femininity.”

Dita also has already proved herself in the underwear market, with a successful line for Wonderbra.

She added: “I did a line with Wonderbra, which was only in Europe – it did really well. I’d like to remind women, especially in America, that lingerie can be beautiful and functional. You don’t have to have your work lingerie and your date lingerie; it can be the same thing. I want to do bigger sizes, because I have a lot of female fans that are curvy girls.”

Dita’s collection will include sizes from extra small to plus sizes, as well as bras that are sized up to E cup.

Style spotlight: Christina Hendricks

By Andrea Petrou on March 30th, 2011

As we told you earlier on today, Mad Men will be making a come back next year.

However, we’re really disappointed to learn that curvy icon Christina Hendricks will not be returning to the show. As a result we thought it only right that we dedicated a post to her amazing style, which has made women all around the globe wish they had curves, and given those lucky enough to have them, the confidence to flaunt them.

Back in August the star made fashion waves when she wore a gorgeous lilac Zac Posen frock for the The Emmys, an usual change to her trademark black. However, just because she favours the classic colour it doesn’t mean her styles are safe.

Like her character, Christina embraces the looks of the 50s and 60s with tea length hems, lace and puffy numbers. Even when she’s dressing down there are hints of this era either through statement accessories or embellishments. Don’t disappear from our screens Christina, we need curvy inspiration.

Kate Winslet thinks the public believe she is a “fat Viking”.

By Andrea Petrou on March 11th, 2011

Kate Winslet thinks the public believe she is a “fat Viking”.

The 35-year-old actress – who is well known for defending her curvy figure – is often complimented on how good she looks, leading to her presuming people think of her as bigger than she is.

She said: “It seems to me I look very different from how people expect me to be.

“Clearly they think I’m a great big fat Viking. My body is different through nothing other than my being older. My clothes fit me the same way they’ve fitted me for the last five, six years. And of course I was a lot more voluptuous then.”

However, she admits she is less keen to talk about her body now because its “hypocritical”.

Kate added to Britain’s Vogue magazine: “I felt I had to defend my body and took a very public stand, which I still absolutely believe in. But I’ve stopped talking about it now. And, at a certain point, it does become hypocritical.”

Despite not wanting to talk about her figure, Kate’s face is becoming more important to her and she often notices how she is gaining wrinkles.

The ‘Revolutionary Road’ star explained: “I’m more aware of things like wrinkles on my face. They’re becoming much more pronounced, because that’s the muscle I use the most when acting. But it’s my face. So, whatever.”

LFW Highlights: Abbey Clancey and Kelly Brook model for Giles Deacon

By Andrea Petrou on September 21st, 2010

It was all about curves and creativity for Giles Deacon’s SS2011 show.

The designer made his LFW comeback sending curvy Kelly Brook and pregnant Abbey Clancey down the runway alongside Amber Le Bon and Agyness Deyn in floral 50s inspired frocks.

Fringing (we can see this is going to be huge next season) also made an appearance on maxi dresses and skirts, while polka dot slim fitting frocks, complete with skinny belts kept the 50s theme. But that wasn’t all with the designer also giving us a range of floaty delights, playsuits and some gorgeous billowing satin and silk frocks.

We think we may have just found our favourite collection so far.

Gallery: a bombshell wardbrobe for the curvier lady

By emilyborrett on July 7th, 2010

The other day I was flicking through magazines when I read a feature about the gorgeous plus-size model Crystal Renn (well known for appearing on Mark Fast’s catwalk shows last year). And she is gorgeous. When I compared her to the legions of tiny, waif-like models in all of the ad campaigns in the magazines that I read, she exuded sex appeal in a way that they didn’t.

Don’t think that I’m hating on all of you skinny twiglets out there, because I’m not; people often seem confuse being pro-curves and pro-health as an excuse to bully skinny girls. I think that women are beautiful whether they’re seven stone or fifteen stone. Each body shape has its assets, and while clothes hang off thin girls in a way I find beautiful, clothes cling to curvy girls, and that’s sexy. As a typical British size 10-12 girl, whose weight has fluctuated over the years, I’ve got big hips and a (very) generous bum. I’ve always felt disheartened by the sheer tininess of the girls that we see every day on billboards and advertisments. But the growing use of plus-size models in fashion is a glimmer of hope for the curvy girl – it shows that beauty ideals are changing again.

Consider the curvy starlets of yesterday such as Marilyn Monroe and Brigitte Bardot. Their beauty is still as widely celebrated and recognised as it was fifty years ago; they’re still pin-ups (ask any man, he’ll confirm this). They were never ashamed of their bodies or covered themselves up in dark, baggy clothes – like Crystal Renn, they showed off their womanly figures and looked all the more beautiful for it.

Here’s a gallery for you curvy girls with the best pieces to show off your best assets and feel beautiful. (Best enjoyed when savouring a piece of chocolate cake).

Beyonce does her thing for Vogue’s April ’09 issue

Representing the “Shape issue” is Beyonce, who has been photographed by Mario Testino for the April ’09 cover of Vogue. It’s the second time this year that Anna Wintour has chosen a black woman for the cover (Michelle Obama was the first for the March ’09 issue). With the headline “Real women have curves, Beyonce at her best”, it’s great to see the 27-year-old land the cover, but might I casually remind Ms Wintour that real women come in all wonderful shapes, and not solely of the curvy variety.
