We’re all wincing this week, right? The first properly sunny weekend of the year is like a siren call to get your toes out, and so we dutifully fish last year’s sandals from the bottom of the wardrobe and prepare to limp our way around town until the buggers have stretched themselves comfy again.

But once the wounds have healed it’ll all be worth it, because sandals are really great this year. From totally flat to modest block heels and wedges, from space age perspex and clear plastic straps to fully earth-mother buckled leather styles, there’s a world of casually chic padding about to be had – and flip flops have never looked so mediocre.

Burlesque star Dita Von Teese unveils Von Follies vintage lingerie collection at Debenhams

Exciting news for those of you who love lingerie with a vintage twist! As of today, you can buy the Dita Von Teese Von Follies collection at Debenhams. True to the Burlesque star signature style and ‘inspired by her own vintage lingerie wardrobe’, the glamorous collection features corsets, bustiers, balcony bras, garter belts and high-waisted briefs.

Dita comments: “I wanted to create pieces that enhance the feminine silhouette and make each woman who wears my range feel sexy and glamorous. Each piece is homage to femininity and a reflection of my love of vintage glamour.”

If you’re not feeling in a Christmas mood yet, you soon will be after watching Debenhams’ Christmas ad (below). Conjuring up the magic of the festive period, this beautifully shot video combines haunting Harry Potter-esque melodies with traditional festive scenes including an old locomotive train speeding through the snowy English countryside.

And while the reality may be slightly different there’s no denying it does just make you want to go out, blitz the shops and then collapse by the fire with some mulled wine and mince pies (or get dressed in some exotic lingerie if this video is to believed). Debenhams show us how to avoid tanning disasters this year

Unless you’re one of those rare porcelain beauties such as Dita Von Teese or Sophie-Ellis Bextor, all of us girls look and feel more confident in our bikinis when we’ve got a bit of a golden glow. And in light of all the more recent medical evidence that we shouldn’t cover ourselves in olive oil and marinate ourselves in the sun for six hours a day until our skin begins to look like Italian leather, more and more of us are turning to fake tan as a safe solution.

But it isn’t really safe, is it? Medically safe, yes, with the exception of Jordan and Alex Reid who allegedly inject tan into their skin and spend a week throwing up afterwards. But I’m talking about fake tanning disasters, the ones that leave us weeping and frantically scruffing ourselves with lemon juice, refusing to leave the house to buy milk because of our two-tone skin. I’m going through a tanning disaster right now – I’m beautifully bronzed on the front, cottage-cheese white on the back, because I forgot to rub it in properly.

However, Debenhams have a plan that promises to end our fake-tan woes, and prevent us from ever looking like Dale Winton again, by launching the Fake Tan Tone Chart – beginning at “Pale and Interesting” and ending at “Radioactive Orange”. If you hit that, you’ve gone too far. The chart has been introduced to every Debenhams’ beauty hall in Britain and is there to give novice fake-tanners an indication of what shade of tan will suit them best, and which is the best product for their skin. Consultants will be on board to help customers assess what’s best for them.

There’s something about duty-free shopping on the way home from a holiday that makes my heart quiver with joy; it becomes the only time of year when I can justify buying a great big bottle of my favourite perfume (Miss Dior Cherie, if you wanted to know) with leftover holiday money, or treating myself to an amazing Chanel foundation that I could never otherwise afford. For me, duty-free beauty products are an excuse in itself to go on holiday. However, I do realise that my way of thinking isn’t exactly practical or logical – it’s a bit silly to spend six hundred quid on flights to Malaga just because you want to get a posh mascara on the way back.

Which is why I jumped for joy at the news that until the 28th of July, Debenhams are going to cut all VAT charges on some of their swankiest products – yessss. Now I don’t have to go on holiday just to buy products from Estee Lauder, Lancome, Clinique, Benefit and Calvin Klein for a reasonable price – I can just pop down to the nearest Debenhams department store. The offer is only for the next fortnight though, so girls, hop to it and take advantage of their bargains now.

Selfridges launches eco-bag range

Yesterday we bought you the news that Debenhams had launched a range of designer eco friendly bags for life, and now it seems Selfridges is doing the same.
The high end department store has announced a range of bags in aid of UK charity Bottletop, which raises money to help fight poverty in the developing world.

The bags, which are the creation of Cameron Saul (whose father Roger Saul founded Mulberry), are made from recycled bottle tops salvaged from waste. These are then spun into high-fashion handbags by local communities.

‘I wanted Bottletop to be a cool brand. We’d sell sexy, high-quality products with a feel good factor, not things people brought because they felt they had to’, said Saul.

The new limited collection comes in five styles; the ‘Luciana’ clutch, the ‘Claudio’ luggage bag, the ‘Paris’ shoulder bag, the ‘Comprido’ clutch, and the ‘Bellani’ shoulder bag, each with the coveted blue ‘Bottletop’ logo.

You can get your hands on them at Selfridges now.

Debenhams launches designer bags for life

Lovers of designers and eco fashion will be just as excited as we are to hear about Debenhams new range of ethical plastic bags.

The highstreet store has taken the “bags for life” concept that one step further and has teamed up with its in-house designers – John Rocha, Henry Holland, Betty Jackson, Ben De Lisi and Julien Macdonald to launch a range of bags.

The bags are priced at a bargain 5p each and are made from 100% recycled plastic. Each one is also said to encompasses the designer’s signature style and personality, with a glamorous creation from Julien Macdonald, a funky design from Henry Holland, an elegant style from John Rocha, a modish offering from Betty Jackson and a sweet yet chic design from Ben De Lisi.

Get those 5 pence pieces together and get the whole collection.

Debenhams named as official retail partner for Sex and the City 2

With the wait for the Sex and the City 2 film nearly over many companies are beginning to make a big song and dance about it introducing jewellery, clothing and other accessories to tie in with the launch.

Debenhams however has gone one step further. The retail store has announced that it is the official retail partner of the film.

To celebrate, the highstreet store put together a fashion shoot in the Amanjeena Hotel, in Marakesh, Morocco, where the actual movie was shot. Hundreds of girls were interviewed to find four “doubles” for Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte and were dressed in the style of each character from Debenhams designers including Julien Macdonald and Matthew Williamson.

And it’s good news for SATC fashion girls because all the clothing will be available to buy in time for the film’s debut on 28 May.

But the good news doesn’t end there because four lucky customers will also win a trip to New York in conjunction with SATC 2. The prize includes flights and hotel accommodation for four people (one winner and three friends) and $1000 spending money.

Matthew Williamson’s “Butterfly” range sweeps into Debenhams

Butterfly.jpgWell known for his flowing bohemian influenced brightly coloured garments, but not so bohemian prices; Matthew Williamson cuts the hefty price tag and offers us high street shoppers something of his, for much less. His new range for Debenhams enters stores this week taking its name “Butterfly” from an inspirational painting he saw in Rajasthan in 1997, and this Indian influence emerges strongly in the assortment on offer.
The collection houses all one will need to embrace the summer months, from light coloured summer dresses, brightly flowing skirts to exotic looking bikinis. And if you’re willing to pay the maximum price of £120, you can get yourself a maxi dress emblazoned with Williamson’s signature style of vibrant prints. The majority of the items are labelled coral, embroidered, kaftan or tunic, so if the ‘I’ve travelled to far off lands’ look isn’t your thing, and your more comfortable in a pencil skirt and twin set, then this probably isn’t the collection for you. If you are, however, desperate to own a piece of Matthews then the charcoal grey satin dress at £50 is simple, stylish and there’s no pattern in sight.
It’s a particularly large collection, especially in the accessories department with many different items of jewellery, bags, purses, belts and other highly detailed pieces to choose from. Definitely worth a look even if you think at first it’s not your style, you could always buy something and sell it on ebayfor a profitable margin, should you decide it disagrees with you. Given it will surely sell out, the rules of supply and demand are ultimately working in your favour. Finally, if you like the butterfly motif there are also a number of butterflies adorning many of the items. It’s nice when things do what they say.

Peaches Geldof axed as the face of Miss Ultimo following drug allegations

The world of modelling is fickle at the best of times but when you’re thrust into the media spotlight for reportedly doing something illegal, it’s game over.

After a series of sordid photos of Peaches Geldof hit the web, and rumours of her heroin use began to circulate, the socialite has been dropped by Ultimo as the face of it’s Miss Ultimo range.

The undewear brand, which reportedly paid Peaches £100,000 for the campaign, said in a statement: “We have been in meetings all morning with regards to the stories that have surfaced over the weekend about Peaches and unfortunately we have no option but to terminate her contract.

“Miss Ultimo is a brand geared towards a young female audience and as a company we have a social responsibility to ensure we are promoting only positive role models that young women can aspire to. We are in the process of removing Peaches from the website and we are working with Debenhams to remove her visuals form all Miss Ultimo shops and window displays throughout the UK.”

Michelle Mone, the creator of the Miss Ultimo brand, added: “We’ve given this a lot of thought, but there’s a point where a business must stick to its principles and as a brand that targets young women, we feel it is impossible for Peaches to continue to work with us as the face of Miss Ultimo lingerie.”

This isn’t the first time a model or celeb has been dropped from a campaign following drug allegations. Kerry Katona was dropped by Iceland following claims of cocaine use, while Kate Moss was also axed from Rimmel when pictures of her snorting the drug became public.

First looks: Sneak Preview of One-Off Henry Holland Print

Sit down ladies because we’ve got a treat that will cheer you up on this gloomy Monday morning.

Debenhams has given us a sneak preview of a one-off print created by Henry Holland, featuring the faces of winning entrants to a competition.

The highstreet store has been searching for the faces of Henry Holland’s next exclusive design to be used on a handbag and scarf for the Autumn H! By Henry Holland range. And the winners were chosen by Mr H himself.

We love the new designs, which are a funky purple, black and white composite of the winners’ photos on a newspaper background, sporting slogan headlines such as, “The IT crowd” and “Beauty and the street”. And although we weren’t lucky enough to get our faces on the items, it won’t put us off buying them when they hit stores in July.

Debenhams to be the first highstreet store to use a disabled model

Could the stringent modelling rules gradually be being broken down? Not only have we seen a huge array of plus size models on the catwalk (thanks Mark Fast) but it also now seems disabled women are getting a chance to pose in front of the camera too.

In a first for highstreet stores Debenhams has announced it will use 32 year old Shannon Murray who has been confined to a wheelchair, since breaking her neck as a teenager for its display window photography and also online. Joining her in modelling for the ‘Principles by Ben de Lisi’ range will be Kate Fullman, a size 16 model, Tess Montgomery, a petite 5”4 model, and Tokumbo Daniel, a size 10 model.

Michael Sharp, Debenhams‘ Deputy Chief Executive, said: “We cater for women of all shapes and sizes, young and old, non-disabled and disabled, so we wanted our windows to reflect this choice.”

Could this be the catalyst for more stores to begin using “normal” girls? We really do hope so.

Henry Holland asks people to lend their faces for his upcoming H! by Henry Holland line for Debenhams

HH.jpgWe love how designers are giving us mere mortals a tiny door of opportunity when it comes to modelling.

Earlier this month Hugo Boss launched a competition to find a catwalk model for fashion week and today Henry Holland has announced he wants members of the public to lend their faces to his upcoming H! by Henry Holland line for Debenhams.

A total of 36 boys and girls will be chosen to appear on scarves and bags, which will be sold at 60 stores across the country in July. All you have to do is visit the Debenhams blog, upload your photo, and you could be a piece of designer history.

Women choosing Long Johns over sexy Lingerie during the snow says Debenhams

Long johns.jpgIt seems some of us may be telling a few porkies when we’re updating our Facebook statuses and telling our friends about the colour bra we’re wearing in aid of Breast Cancer,.

Sales figures for Debenhams have shown that many of us are ditching our frilly lingerie for thermals this week as snow hits Britain and temperatures in some places plummet to -15C.

While long Johns are claimed to have flown off the shelves in record numbers lingerie has dwindled. And we’re also going that one step further at an attempt of keeping warm with sales of faux-fur coats raising by 22 per cent.

Elena Antoniou, a representative for Debenhams, told OK Magazine: “It’s meant to be ‘fur coat and no knickers’, but our sales prove the old adage wrong – this winter it’s about fur coats and thermal knickers!”

Debenhams launches PeachyBody pants, which are claimed to zap cellulite

Pants.jpgWe know we’ve been banging on about sexy undies today, and advising you stay away from the Bridget Jones style undies.

However, we’ve been thinking, and we know, if we had to wear a skimpy dress, after a few days of festive treats and drink we’d want something, that would, well, hold us in.

Therefore, it only seems fair we tell you about Debenhams’ revolutionary cellulite busting pants.

Yes, we know what you’re thinking, it looks like any other shapewear product on the market, but, these PeachyBody pants are claimed to have extra super powers. Not only will they hold you in but, they also claim to miraculously banish that unsightly orange peel, and make your waist, hips, thighs and bottoms appear slimmer, toned and moisturised in just 21 days.

But it’s not a miracle, it’s science that is claimed to do this. Apparently the wonder pants have a wave-weave knit system, which stimulates the skin and massages active ingredients into problem areas.

This includes a combination of peaches (to moisturise), green tea (to act as an antioxidant) and coffee beans (to eliminate excess water). These are said to warm the body and increase circulation of the blood, helping to break down fatty deposits.

And for £25 a pop its a much more sensible and cheaper alternative to going under the knife.
