Kate Moss teaming up with her nine-year-old daughter to create a girls’ clothing range

By Andrea Petrou on December 23rd, 2011

Kate Moss is teaming up with her nine-year-old daughter to create a girls’ clothing range.

The supermodel and little Lila Grace are working with British high street store Debenhams on a range of “funky tweenage” designs, due for release in summer 2012.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Lila has always loved trying on Kate’s clothes and make-up, and is already really into fashion.

“It was mainly all her idea and Kate obviously agreed to help out as much as possible, using her contacts to land the duo a deal.

“Lila is adamant the range will be very traditional and English rose-esque in feel. Lila doesn’t want to produce chavvy clothes.

“The collaboration was actually inspired by Kate’s mates, Jemima French and Sadie Frost’s new FrostFrench ‘Iris and Edie’ capsule range of sleepwear after their daughters got involved.

“Kate and Lila Grace will get cracking on designs over the festive period, mulling over ideas at Kate’s Cotswolds’ pad.”

Kate – who wed husband Jamie Hince in July – recently revealed Lila is quite “prudish” and will often tell her mother off when she doesn’t take off her make-up.

She said: “I always take my make-up off, because otherwise my daughter will come in and say, ‘Mummy, tut-tut’. She doesn’t like it. She likes the fresh-faced, natural mummy, when I’ve got my hair in a bun and no make-up on.

“Lila is quite prudish – she’ll only wear a little bit of lip gloss or something. But she is into nail art. I think Lila is beautiful – she’s so innocent and has that fresh face. She’s gorgeous, but obviously she is my daughter.”

David and Victoria Beckham are considering leaving Los Angeles

By Andrea Petrou on December 19th, 2011

Victoria Beckham at the British Fashion Awards at The Savoy in London - 28 November 2011

David and Victoria Beckham are considering leaving Los Angeles.

The soccer star is in talks with French club Paris Saint-Germain and a number of UK teams and rather than Victoria and their four children Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, nine, Cruz, six, and four-month-old daughter Harper remaining in Los Angeles while he plays in Europe, the entire family may relocate with the couple already lining up possible schools for the boys.

A source told the Mail on Sunday: “David is on the brink of committing to either Paris Saint-Germain or a UK club. He’ll make the announcement just after the New Year.

“They are preparing to be back in Britain and have been looking at schools for the boys. David is keen on one particular school because it’s the area where he grew up and when he was a child he always wished he could have gone there.”

Although Victoria was initially reluctant to move, the hugely successful fashion designer is now “excited” about returning home.

The source added: “David has always been adamant he wants to end his career in Europe and Victoria is totally behind the move. She is using the opportunity to work on her fashion profile in Europe and the boys will be privately educated. They are all very excited.

“Victoria wants to come back to London and live between the capital and Paris but she won’t give up the place in LA. The advantage of being over here is they can spend more time with their families. But they love LA so it’s likely they’ll be back.”

Manolo Blahnik’s life story becomes the subject of a new fairytale.

By Andrea Petrou on November 22nd, 2011

Manolo Blahnik’s life story has become the subject of a new fairytale.

The legendary shoe designer will see the tale of his time in the industry turned into a “mix of biography and fairy story” by fashion writer Camilla Morton, with Blahnik illustrating the tome himself.

Camilla told Vogue.co.uk: “The book is a mix of biography and fairy story. It is a blend of Manolo’s life – from his childhood on the banana plantation to his store in Chelsea today – mixed with the tale of ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’.

“Fashion designers are too magical for a straightforward biography, so what better than to mix with well-known ‘Once Upon a Times’ – and the finishing touch, asking the designers themselves to illustrate their story.”

The Spanish-born shoe creator admitted he found the process of illustrating the book a “cathartic” experience.

He added: “I would do it whenever I had a moment, on a train, on my travels, it was a bit of a challenge. I haven’t ever illustrated a book like this before, but it was very cathartic in a way to look back and draw images from my past.

“I knew Camilla would create something wonderful. It was a very fun adventure.”

Manolo follows in the footsteps of Christian Lacroix, who illustrated ‘Sleeping Beauty’ – his own biography written by Camilla – earlier this year.

Nicole Richie designing a fashion line for QVC

By Andrea Petrou on November 14th, 2011

Nicole Richie is designing a fashion line for QVC.

The 30-year-old designer will further expand her work with a “cute” range of clothing for the home shopping network, which will launch in February.

A source told Usmagazine.com: “The line is cute – it can be worn by teeny-tiny girls but also goes up to size XXXL. Nicole has a great fashion sense, and she’s very hands-on.”

The launch of the line will tie in with the premiere of reality TV show ‘Fashion Star’, on which Nicole – who has a line of womenswear called Winter Kate, an accessories line called House of Harlow 1960 and Nicole, her maternity collection – acts as a mentor for aspiring designers.

The reality TV star – who was recently named Influencer of the Year at Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards for House of Harlow 1960 – recently said she designs for women who are not “afraid to take risks” and enjoy having “fun” with their wardrobes.

Describing her typical customer, she said: “[She is] a multitasker, a woman who wears many hats, someone who isn’t afraid to take risks and have fun with fashion.”

Julien MacDonald is set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro

By Andrea Petrou on October 11th, 2011

Julien MacDonald is set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

The British fashion designer will head to the African mountain where he will scale the dizzying 19,340 foot heights for children’s charities TAS and Chance UK, although he continues to be “dubious” he will be able to do it.

He told vogue.co.uk: “When I leave home tonight I’ll have my boots on, my hats, my big coat, my rucksack, the lot.

“I have never packed for a holiday where I haven’t been able to include my nice clothes and sandals. Instead I’ve got a hot water bottle, plasters, thermal socks and a sleeping bag. I’m a bit dubious.”

However, Julien has been preparing well by breaking in his special walking boots.

He said: “I do get some odd looks when I’m walking around Notting Hill in my hiking boots – I haven’t taken them off for four months.

“People keep asking me ‘Are those boots some sort of new fashion trend?’ I say ‘No, actually I’m climbing Kilimanjaro.’ I managed to take them off for the show though, so at least that’s something. I’ve just been trying to get used to walking 11-hour stretches – it’s not easy.”

Hailee Steinfeld says being named as the face of Miu Miu was “really huge”

By Andrea Petrou on October 11th, 2011

Hailee Steinfeld says being named as the face of Miu Miu was “really huge”.

The ‘True Grit’ actress – who was recruited by the Italian fashion house in May at the age of just 14 – explained while fronting a campaign for the label is “an honour”, she had only just started to learn about fashion when she took on the role.

She said: “Just going from about a year-and-a-half ago, when I was doing the press for ‘True Grit’ and the awards circuit and learning about the different designers and getting to wear them, and having Miu Miu be one of my favourites – then having something the campaign come along was really huge for me.

“It’s been an honour. It has been so much fun. I have had such a blast getting to know everyone that works with the brand.”

Hailee admitted she is enjoying working in the industry so much that she is even considering a career in the future as a fashion blogger.

She added in an interview with Fashionista.com: “Fashion has become a big part of my life. I’d like to start blogging about something to do with fashion and then I’d go into a bajillion different things. But yeah, fashion seems like a really great thing to write about.”

Style spotlight: Kate Bosworth

By emilyborrett on September 6th, 2011

Kate (far right) shines at the Costume Institute Gala in New York alongside Liv Tyler, Stella McCartney and Kate Hudson. We absolutely adore her peekaboo black gown

In light of Kate Bosworth’s newly-revealed rule of only wearing creations by fashion designers with good manners, we thought we’d have a look over the actress’ recent style file. One thing we can say about her is that she always looks fashion-perfect right down to the tippy-toes, whether she’s in a cool Jil Sander maxi skirt or a Lanvin evening gown for the red carpet.

What we like about Kate is that she is a girl who doesn’t shy away from colour – and she shouldn’t, with her ice-blonde 1940s hair and peachy colouring, this is one girl who was born to experiment with her look. We particularly love Kate in a cool peppermint-green Jil Sander skirt with a classic white T-shirt to contrast against hot pink lipstick, or Kate in a delicate white lace Erdem dress with splashes of vibrant, hot red.

This is one woman who was born to wear high fashion. Miss Bosworth – ShinyStyle salutes you.

Valentino’s life to be turned into a musical?

By emilyborrett on September 6th, 2011

The legendary fashion designer Valentino may be having his life story turned into a musical, according to an interview he gave to an Italian newspaper.

The iconic designer who is particularly famous for his red-carpet creations and sizzling scarlet gowns, revealed the musical plans to La Repubblica: “We’re looking at the possibility of taking my story to Broadway, as a musical.”

Valentino’s life has already been examined before – but this time on the lens, if you remember the 2009 documentary on the designer ‘Valentino: The Last Emperor’. And Broadway had better be careful how they portray Valentino on the stage, because the designer was initially not pleased with how he came across on the film.

He said: “I came across as a despot. The director had surprised Giancarlo Giammetti [Valentino's business partner] and me when we were arguing, which we always do in French. But then (at the end of the screening), the applause never stopped and I saw that people liked me as I am.”

Naturellement, Valentino! Every one simply adores a diva. Save up for your Valentino gowns now ladies – we guarantee that the opening night of the show will be a fashion night to remember.

Christina Ricci keeps clothes until they become fashionable again

By emilyborrett on August 31st, 2011

Clever little Christina Ricci has a genius attitude to the spurned pieces in her wardrobe – keep them long enough and they’ll eventually come back in style.

When the Sleepy Hollow actress asked her stylist how long she should hang onto a garment before it stopped being uncool and become a quirky vintage piece, the answer was seven years. There you have it girls, keep your horrible footless tights from 2006 for a few more years and suddenly you’ll call yourself some cool “vintage” legwear to wear again. (Though actually, we really hope that footless tights never go back into fashion.)

She explained: “I asked my stylist, ‘What’s the rule from when something becomes vintage and not just, like, last season? Seven years, apparently. So seven years later, I’ve brought out my Alaia dresses again.”

There you have it. Keep anything long enough and it’ll come back in fashion again, according to Christina Ricci’s stylist. That’s actually quite comforting considering the amount of crap in my wardrobe…

Marc Jacobs praises Kate Moss for being “unique”

By emilyborrett on August 18th, 2011

The designer Marc Jacobs has gushingly spoken out about his admiration for the supermodel Kate Moss, who closed his fetish-inspired Louis Vuitton  runway show this season to much applause.

Marc puts Kate’s enduring success and popularity as a model down to her “unique” and “huge” presence – according to the designer there are not many models like Kate.

Jacobs told Vogue: “I mean Kate is, besides being physically beautiful and an incredibly charismatic and extraordinary personality, just very rare – if not totally unique. Kate can be just Kate, and the presence is just huge. She fills space, indoor and outdoor, studio space and pages, with such life. That energy really comes through in any and everything that she does.”

It sounds to us like Marc’s got a bit of a girl-crush on Kate, but can you blame him? This is one of our favourite friendships within the fashion industry.

How gorgeous is this leopard-printed dress coat? We love the clear vintage and sixties inspirations.

It’s time to get your emergency credit card out, girls, because today British design genius Matthew Williamson has finally unveiled his first diffusion line, MW, on My-Wardrobe.com today. When we say affordable it’s still really quite expensive, but sshhh, it’s still very exciting and I’m quite tempted to go without food for a month to get my mitts onto one of the collection’s pieces.

So far there are only three pieces available on the site but we’ve heard tell that more will be added soon, as there will also be jewellery as part of the collection with prices starting at £98. We’re already impressed and excited with what we’ve seen – I’m completely obsessed with the MW leopard-printed bubble coat, which reminds me of sixties It girls such as Edie Sedgwick.

If you feel like blowing a load of money on something really special today I’d recommend checking it out, and keep looking back to check for more pieces being added. Want to shop the collection? Find it here.

Amy Winehouse’s designs for label Fred Perry could be released posthumously

By Andrea Petrou on July 28th, 2011

Amy Winehouse’s designs for label Fred Perry could be released posthumously.

The British streetwear company – famed for their iconic polo shirts, synonymous with teenagers of the 60s and 70s and the early Skinhead moment – had collaborated with the singer, who died suddenly on Saturday (23.07.11), on two successful collections and say they have three in the Fred Perry x Amy Winehouse range which could potentially be released.

Whether the garments will be made and sold, however, has yet to be decided, as the brand is planning to approach her family for input.

A spokesperson for the brand said: “Everything is on hold until we speak with Amy’s family and management.”

Amy was said to have been fully involved with the design of her collections, the first of which was a 50s inspired set which included twinsets, gingham, pencil skirts and capri pants in October 2010.

She then collaborated on a follow up Spring/Summer collection which was Hawaiian-inspired and launched in March this year.

Richard Martin, a marketing manager from Fred Perry, told Harper’s Bazaar Amy was a “delight” to work with.

He said: “Bright, passionate, and dedicated, with strong ideas of exactly what it was that she wanted from the range. Detailing, fabrics-she was all over it.”

The three collections Amy designed for Fred Perry could are enough for the label to release through until late next year.

Christina Hendricks will design her own line of swimwear

By Andrea Petrou on July 25th, 2011

Christina Hendricks will design her own line of swimwear.

The ‘Mad Men’ actress is known for her curvy figure, but has revealed in the past her fuller chest and small waist make it difficult to source suitable beachwear and as a result she has decided to create her own collection.

An insider told The Mail on Sunday newspaper: “Christina is a US size 10 and weighs 154lbs but she can’t find a swimsuit that compliments her figure. So she started designing her own and is in talks to sign a deal. She loves her curves and doesn’t want to lose weight.

“She wanted to create something other women can wear too. The plan is to start with swimwear and move into underwear and her own clothing line.”

Christina has previously complained about the difficulty in finding suitable swimwear for her fuller figure.

She said: “It’s really hard to find a bathing suit if you have breasts. You either get smooshed down or there’s no support.”

The 36-year-old actress also revealed her problems extend to finding dresses to wear to red carpet events.

She added: “I have to be careful about my proportions and keep it simple. What works for me is structure and something that shows my waist.

“No one will send me dresses. Designers loan size 2 or 4 samples to actresses, but I’m not that size.

“It’s like I’m a freak because I’m curvy and I can’t squeeze into those things. I’ve had some problems with that.”

Camilla Al Fayed buys controlling share of Issa

By Andrea Petrou on July 12th, 2011

Camilla Al Fayed has bought a controlling share in Issa.

The daughter of former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed has purchased a 51 per cent share in the luxury designer clothing label, which shot to fame after Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge wore the company’s royal blue wrap dress by designer Daniella Helayel for her first official photographs as Prince William’s fiance.

Daniella – who owns a 49 per cent stake in the brand – said: “The investment will help to grow the business and take it to the next level.

“I looked at a lot of investors, and Camilla came with the best fit. She has the infrastructure behind her, she’s well connected, and she will open a lot of doors.”

The duchess wore two Issa dress on her and Prince William’s recent tour of Canada and North America, which the pair arrived back in Britain from this morning.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have also been known to wear creations by Daniella and have been spotted at her London Fashion Week shows, while celebrities including Keira Knightley and Madonna have also been drawn to the clothing.
