Karl Lagerfeld thinks Coco Chanel would have “hated” his work

By Andrea Petrou on October 17th, 2011

Karl Lagerfeld thinks Coco Chanel would have “hated” his work.

The flamboyant designer – who is creative director at both Fendi and Chanel – believes he has done well at the fashion house because he was given total freedom, though he doesn’t think the label’s founder would have approved of his creations.

Asked how he copes with his workload, Karl said: “I have it in my blood. When I was asked to Chanel, it was not trendy. I made something of it because I was given total freedom by the owner. What I do Coco would have hated. It’s my job to keep Chanel updated.”

Karl also admitted he often forgets work he has done in the past, but is not upset by this as he thinks it has helped with his career.

Discussing his many collaborations – including work with Coca Cola, Macy’s and Magnum – he told CNN: “I’m a walking label no? My name is Labelfeld not Lagerfeld. I have a sort of Alzheimer’s for my own work, which I think is a very good thing. Today too many people remember what they did – just forget it all and start again.”

Hervé Léger opens UK store

By Andrea Petrou on September 7th, 2009

Herve.jpgIf you love Posh’s, Lindsay Lohans and Diane Kruger’s red carpet, figure hugging dress style then you’ll be pleased to know, you will soon be able to get your hands on something similar.

The starlets are all known for wearing Hervé Léger, a designer whose creations became well known in the 80s.

Over the past year the designs have made a huge come back onto the celebrity circuit and they will now be making an entrance into our wardrobes at home.

Why? Because the designer is opening up a UK store in Knightsbridge on the 17 September.

The store will have two levels, plus a VIP area. I think this is fantastic news, and definitely a worthy excuse to join up to the gym to get into one of these gorgeous figure hugging dresses.

Halloween High End Pick of the Week: Luella Penelope Ribbon Dress

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on October 28th, 2008

High End POTW.jpg

We’re not sure whose caviar dreams include spending $1,000 plus on a Halloween get-up, but at least this one is fabulous and has a life outside a closet full of slutty Disney princess costumes.

The Luella Penelope Ribbon Dress, $1,130, is darkly gothic and fashionably sexy.

It also requires some creativity on your part. Sure, you could be a witch, or you could be a dark fairy, a dead socialite? Tell us your stylishly spooky ideas in the comments!

Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2008

By Andrea Thatcher on December 5th, 2007

Carolina%20hererra%20pre-fall%20collage.jpg

More wearable clothes for pre-fall were presented yesterday, this time from Carolina Herrera. The thing about wearable designer collections is that on the one hand they’re much easier to approximate into your own wardrobe even if you can’t afford the real thing. But the disappointing thing is that you’ll always miss the beautiful craftsmanship and luxurious details that perhaps aren’t so obvious when you’re inspired by something a bit more outlandish. We loved that Carolina threw in some more overtly sexy items with this collection, while maintaining her impeccable aesthetic.

Jimmy Choo patent leather boots

By Andrea Thatcher on November 27th, 2007

jimmychooboots.jpgIf you could afford designer boots–who would you buy? We’re in love with Jimmy Choo’s gray Beach patent leather boots from Net-A-Porter. They’re super shiny up to your knees and the cut and design is flawless down to the slightly rounded toe and metallic silver stiletto heel. But for $1,125 they’ll probably have to simply remain on my ‘in-my-dreams’ wish list.

Julie Haus spring 2008 collection

By Andrea Thatcher on October 18th, 2007

Julie%20Haus_spring%202008.JPG
Last night at Pop Burger in Manhattan, amidst the most delicious cosmos I’ve ever had, Julie Haus debuted her spring 2008 collection filled with popping colors such as Blitz Pink, Tangerine, Kelly Green, and Moondance Blue. Haus (above) mingled throughout the evening in a fabulous silver number with an adorable black bow headband. Inspired by the song, “Everyday Alice” by Book of Love, about a quirky, eclectic gal-about-town, Haus’ entire collection is very fun and wearable. She even named her special pieces by the names of Alice’s hip friends in the song such as the romantic Prudence Dress and sassy Valentina. Shown above (from left to right) are the Druscilla, Andora, Alice Everyday top. Continue to the jump for more pictures from the party.

Desinger POTW: Patent leather cropped city jacket by 3.1 Phillip Lim

By Andrea Thatcher on July 24th, 2007

Phillip%20lim%20runway.jpg

Take this look straight from the runway! A cropped, black leather jacket is a style staple, and the patent leather finish on this version from 3.1 Phillip Lim keeps the too cool topper modern. Which makes it a perfect Designer Pick of the Week.

Phillip%20lim%20jacket.jpg

While La Garconne, who sells the jacket for $794, recommends pairing the piece with dresses or jeans for work or play, we think this would make a great signature item. If it suits your frame – long and lean or evenly proportioned – or if you want to minimize a larger-on-top figure, wear it with everything!
