The gorgeously feminine sexed-up espadrilles on the catwalk at D&G
When it comes to compiling a holiday or a summer wardrobe, everyone knows the importance of a good pair of shoes. After all, the right apparel on your feet can either make or break an outfit. But sometimes it just seems too daunting to pull on stilettos or monster heels just to feel confident and stylish – and that’s why we’re thanking God for the espadrille wedge, one of this season’s hottest shoes thanks to designers D&G. Pretty, leg-lengthing and comfy, investing in a pair is going to be a serious thought this summer.
Luckily this is one particular trend that the high street is embracing wholeheartedly, so you don’t have to pay designer prices for a great pair of summer shoes. D&G will not stand trial for allegedly evading one billion euros in tax
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will not stand trial for allegedly evading one billion euros in tax.
An Italian judge decided there was not enough evidence to take the fashion duo – popularly known as Dolce and Gabbana – to court after an investigation into the company Gado Sri they set up in Luxembourg.
The investigation by Italian authorities was based on the alleged failure of the pair to declare revenues of approximately 840 million euros and claims by investigators that Gado Sri is a legal entity set up to avoid higher tax rates in Italy.
Giuseppe Bana, the lawyer representing the designers’ accountant Luciano Patelli, told WWD: “I am very pleased with this decision.
“The judge prevented this from going too far. It’s an investigation that should never have been initiated in the first place.”
Addressing the allegations previously, the former couple said: “It’s an absurd demand based on a completely abstract calculation.
“We will tell the 3,800 employees of the companies, which compose the group, that we have paid all that was due and that we will strenuously defend ourselves to avoid being unjustly forced to pay for something that never existed in the first place.
“This higher taxable sum is a virtual figure we have never received, the result of a theoretical accounting exercise.”
Milan Fashion Week highlights: D&G
Dolce and Gabbana took a totally different approach to other MFW labels giving a nod to the feminine floral girly trends we saw displayed by many a designer at LFW.
The talented duo sent their girly models down in check summer dresses in bold reds and whites as well as gardening-inspired floral apron dresses, camisoles and playsuits. Long floral chiffon gowns worn with printed patent wedges with 50s style skinny waist belts completed the looks.
Dungarees, checked headscarves, heeled gumboots also took a stance with the designer’s digging at a casual gardening look.
We’ll be hosting a D&G inspired garden party as soon as this winter weather blows away.
D&G Party: Naomi Campbell, Paloma Faith and Pixie Lott
Fashion and A-list gals alike turned up to honour Naomi Campbell for being in the modelling business for 25 years.
The party held by Dolce & Gabbana, who also designed a range of limited edition T-shirts featuring photos of Naomi done by some of the world’s top fashion photographers, was attended by the likes of Paloma Faith who rocked up in a leopard print dress and Jamie Winstone who opted for polka dots on her frock.
Naom’s fellow model Claudia Schiffer honoured her friend by wearing one of the limited designed tees while Tess Daly went for sexy tight leather trousers and a black top to mark the occasion. And it seems as though black was the colour du jour for the celebs with Lily Allen turning up in a lace frock in this shade, Naom’s herself opting for a dress in this colour and Pixie Lott going for a black ruffled rock.

A/W Trend Alert: Awesome Alpine Knits
If you’re not a fan of skiing but heart that cosy, kitsch Alpine look, then it’s good news because one of this season’s hottest trends is all about the Alpine look.
Cosy, chunky knitwear with deer print, bobble scarves and hats, fur boots and gilets were all sent down the catwalk by designers including Max Mara, D&g, Missoni and Chanel, emulating warmth, giving a nod to the Sound of Music and ensuring we’ll be staying warm throughout the cold winter.
The key to this look is layering. Team up thick knitted leggings with skirts and gilets over Tees or take inspiration from the designers and team up fur with chunky knits for a glam take on this look.
We’ve picked out our top five Alpine must-haves.
ShinyStyle Gallery: D&G L.A. opening attracts Tinsel Town’s starlets
Via our sister site, Catwalk Queen…
The number one place to be on Monday night was at the opening of the new D&G flagship store in Los Angeles. Dolce & Gabbana certainly have some fine young thangs for pals, inviting a plethora of young Hollywood stars to their glitzy bash on Robertson Blvd. The opening also doubled as a charity event, to raise funds for The Art of Elysium – a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of artists and critically ill children. Among the high-profile guests were Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Lauren Conrad, Rumer Willis, and Paris and Nicky Hilton. We have all the red carpet pics of what they wore – check out our special gallery!

Milan Fashion Week: D&G pipes up for plaid
If you haven’t picked up on it yet, plaid is going to be big for fall. Preppy plaid, plaid tartan, 90′s grunge plaid, it has all had its place on the runway. And it all had its place on one single runway in the D&G show yesterday, with about 90% of the pieces shown featuring some sort of loud plaid print.
Dolce & Gabanna took a very English countryside aesthetic and made it a bit more flowy and feminine and, well, Italian. This would be a great collection to choose a few pieces from to update your fall wardrobe with the checked trend, even if we wouldn’t suggest the head-to-toe looks on the catwalk.

New D&G ads showcase favorites from the runway, plus pre-order the Dolce & Gabbana spring collection at Bergdorf’s now

One of ShinyStyle’s top 10 designers for spring, Dolce & Gabbana, is really hitting the scene. First, the ads for their D&G line shot by Mario Testino, above, have hit the net and feature one of our favorite dresses from the runway collection. A far cry from the dominatrix Dolce & Gabbana ads that have been grabbing headlines of late, these flower child images have us ready for summer sunshine.

The lacy white frock Siri Tollerod wore in the spring/summer ’08 fashion show appears “in action” in the advertisement. We’re glad they chose this short version, as the longer one just seems a little overpowering on a tall thin frame, and would only look more ridiculous on less modelesque figures. Also featured in the ad is a mid-length trench that was styled loose with a brown leather belt on the runway and is open with rolled sleeves in the ads.

Dolce & Gabbana grey skinny jeans offer an alternative to leggings

Even with the season’s slew of dark-dye leggings matched with minidresses and tunic tops, there’s still room for denim extravagances for a more formal look. These Dolce & Gabbana zip-detailed skinny jeans are a warmer addition to the skintight cotton and lycra bottoms that we’re coveting this season, with zip details and gold tone logo plate on the rear. The likes of Jessica Alba has already been spotted in a navy pair by Rich & Skinny, but D&G offers something a little more chic. Right in step with the grey hues this year, these are a quality pair to pull off with both long and short tops this fall.
