Celebrities are channelling the feather trend in their bucket loads this season.
Taking inspiration from designers such as Chanel and Giambattista Valli, A listers such as Tulisa, Blake Lively and Sarah Jessica Parker are opting for frocks in this birdy fabric, which also gives a strong nod to the 20s flapper vintage trend.
And of course the highstreet is full of these feathered frocks.
Copy Tulisa’s look and go for a dress with a feathered skirt and PVC top – buy the replica from Warehouse – or give a nod to the bridal look with a white feathered skirt and satin top like Sarah Jessica Parker at the British Fashion Awards.
If you want to go all out then follow Olivia Palermo who showed how to wear feathers all over, but be careful, too many and you could end up looking more Big Bird than stylish sista.
See the gallery below for celebrity inspiration and keep reading to see our top five feather frock picks for the Christmas party season.
Diane Kruger thought Calvin Klein bosses were “kidding” when they asked her to be the face of their Beauty fragrance.
The 35-year-old actress – who began her modelling career in Paris at the age of 15 – believed the public would adopt a, “Who does she think she is?” attitude if she fronted the brand.
She explained: “It’s very cool to be the face of a perfume, that’s a very flattering thing. When Calvin Klein asked me to be the face of a perfume called ‘Beauty’ I was like, ‘Who are you kidding?’ when they told me the name.
“I was thinking people are going to say, ‘Who does she think she is from Helen of Troy to ‘Beauty’?’ Then with all the work I’ve done for cosmetics companies too it becomes very global.”
The German-born beauty admitted she is pleased to now have more of a say in which campaigns she fronts, as she likes the idea of making products “accessible to all women over the world”.
Diane added to The Independent newspaper: “From my modelling days, I have relationships with all these people and it’s kind of a cool thing that I still do that as well. It’s better these days as I now have more of say in what I do and so I don’t sign with people that I don’t stand behind.
“I like the idea of accessibility, coming from a lower-middle-class background myself, I feel like beauty and products should be accessible to women all over the world.”
The actress Diane Kruger says that she likes to experiment with and change up her look a lot, because she hates how all the other women in Los Angeles look the same.
Diane, who’s previously been a Chanel muse and a model, obviously has had a lot of influence from her stints in the fashion industry.
The actress said: “I don’t have my own stylist. And I like to be a little different – in LA, everyone wears the same dresses.I think my background as a model helps, because I like experimenting and I’m not afraid of fashion or what other people think of me.”
She continued: “Sure, I’ve worn dresses people didn’t like, but I enjoy the expression of clothes. What you wear is one of the only things about yourself you can manipulate.” Testify!
Diane is one of our all-time favourite dressers so it’s good to hear her point of view on fashion. May you always be our red-carpet queen!
Mamma mia, the Venice International Film Festival is upon us once more, and the stars certainly pulled out all the stops for this big red-carpet event.
Top style snaps have to go to Thirteen Evan Rachel Wood for completely stealing the show in a long white shirt-gown with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and Bulgari jewellery. Pure Italian glamour all the way – this is one girl that knows how to dress up, and dress up well. We also loved her hair. While in the past the beautiful actress has opted for long, sculptured 40s waves, for the Film Festival she went for a short, sleek crop slicked back in a masculine ‘do.
Diane Kruger refused to be outshone by Evan, however, and looked like a fairytale in a sparkle-encrusted Elie Saab gown with silver peep-toes and loose, girlish wavy hair. Diane never fails to dazzle us with her red carpet style. Another winner was the actress Marisa Tomei, whose elegant draped mustard dress earned her some serious fashion respect from us.
Representing the models of the glitterati was everyone’s favourite supermodel, Cindy Crawford, showing us that she’s still got it even if the 90s are over in a one-shouldered scarlet Roberto Cavalli evening gown and effortlessly teased hair. Meanwhile, Bianca Brandolini looked sexy in a long-sleeved leopard print gown with a ruffled hem and caramel-coloured hair.
Providing arm candy for the girls’ press pictures was the lovely Mr George Clooney, who looked all twinkly and foxy in a lovely classic tuxedo with his silvery hair slicked back. George, you don’t get older, you just get better.

The good weather is officially back – yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far, and you can bet your bottom dollar that I had myself a Callippo – and so ShinyStyle finds itself searching for the best summer trends in earnest. And here’s one that we can totally get behind: peekaboo back cleavage, a modern alternative to flaunting your bosoms to all and sundry. Sexy, not slutty, chic, not cheap, this is a trend that we can get behind.
Whether it’s just a cheeky flash of skin that you’re after to show off your blissful new tan, or full-on bum skimming backless numbers, there’s a garment out there to you to rock this summer.
As we all know, it can be so tempting when it’s impossibly hot in the summer to dig out your skimpiest clothes, never mind that you look more Katie Price than Kate Moss, and brave it in public. But the backless is sexy, elegant and chic all the way.
We’ve included in the above gallery a couple of our favourite fashion mavens showing us exactly how it’s done when it comes to showing off your back; who can forget Diane Kruger’s jaw-droppingly glitter-encrusted backless Atelier Versace number that she wore to the Inglorious Basterds première, or the plunging nude number that Kylie was seen out in earlier this month?
Check out the gallery to see how Di and Kylie worked the look, and our favourite pieces from the high street.
Makes an appearance at the Coachella Chanel party

We’re all about well-dressed actresses this week at Shiny Style, and they don’t come much better put-together than German-born Inglorious Basterds star Diane Kruger. Always a familiar face in the front rows of both Berlin and Paris Fashion Week, designers such as Chanel and Calvin Klein are all queuing up around the block to dress this girl for events.
And it’s no wonder she’s so impeccably dressed – with friends in high places such as Karl Lagerfeld who invite her to Chanel-branded games of bowls and punts on the Riviera, a girl pretty much has to keep her fashion game en point at all times. Have you ever seen Diane Kruger in a What Were You Thinking? column, or being reprimanded by E! Entertainment’s fashion police? I thought not. And that’s why we love her so – whether she’s at a fashion show or on the red carpet for a new film, she’s always pulled out all the stops.
If you’re not so familiar with the German actress then check out the gallery above, where we’ve found all of our favourite Diane Kruger looks from the last few years. Couture Chanel? Check. An impeccable knack for clashing colours? Check. Incredible shoes? CHECK. This is a girl that has it all.

We’ve been hearing little whispers here and there as the party season approaches about a new, fresh alternative to the trusty LBD (little black dress) that we all rifle out as the party invitations and events begin to mount up – the little white dress. With images of footballers wives and Essex nights out in our minds, we were unconvinced until today, when we saw the pictures of Natalie Portman in New York wearing a white mini-dress from Christian Dior, and frankly looking better than we ever have in our LBDs. So we’ve had to reconsider.
And it’s not just Miss Portman that has traded black for white – the colour was all the rage at the various fashion weeks that have just been and gone, sported by the likes of Diane Kruger and Leigh Lezark. It’s favoured too by modern icon Alexa Chung, who recently wore a very ruffled and feminine LWD (little white dress) out to the GQ Men of the Year awards. If Miss Chung is wearing it, then you know you’re probably on to a good thing.
Check out the gallery above for our top 5 favourite little white dresses in the high street.
The fashion elite were out in force last night in New York’s Soho to celebrate the opening of Chanel’s boutique store.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler and Claire Danes all put in an appearance at the event hosted, of course, by Karl Lagerfeld.
SJP opted for a cute striped pale pink and black dress, which she teamed up with a sparkly jacket, while Liv Tyler went for a jumpsuit paired up with flat on-trend brogues. Claire went for the casual look in jeans, black boots and a blazer.
Fashion favourite Alexa Chung, who is famous for her love of Chanel wowed as usual with a cute patterned three colour frock by the designer, while Diane Kruger, who has previously been described as Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld’s muse, who looked incredible in a ruffled dress by the label.
Gossip Girls Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, who wear Chanel on set also turned up to the party. Blake opted for an on-trend metallic blue dress while Leighton went for a safe LBD.
