We’re all about well-dressed actresses this week at Shiny Style, and they don’t come much better put-together than German-born Inglorious Basterds star Diane Kruger. Always a familiar face in the front rows of both Berlin and Paris Fashion Week, designers such as Chanel and Calvin Klein are all queuing up around the block to dress this girl for events.
And it’s no wonder she’s so impeccably dressed – with friends in high places such as Karl Lagerfeld who invite her to Chanel-branded games of bowls and punts on the Riviera, a girl pretty much has to keep her fashion game en point at all times. Have you ever seen Diane Kruger in a What Were You Thinking? column, or being reprimanded by E! Entertainment’s fashion police? I thought not. And that’s why we love her so – whether she’s at a fashion show or on the red carpet for a new film, she’s always pulled out all the stops.
If you’re not so familiar with the German actress then check out the gallery above, where we’ve found all of our favourite Diane Kruger looks from the last few years. Couture Chanel? Check. An impeccable knack for clashing colours? Check. Incredible shoes? CHECK. This is a girl that has it all.
We’ve been hearing little whispers here and there as the party season approaches about a new, fresh alternative to the trusty LBD (little black dress) that we all rifle out as the party invitations and events begin to mount up – the little white dress. With images of footballers wives and Essex nights out in our minds, we were unconvinced until today, when we saw the pictures of Natalie Portman in New York wearing a white mini-dress from Christian Dior, and frankly looking better than we ever have in our LBDs. So we’ve had to reconsider.
And it’s not just Miss Portman that has traded black for white – the colour was all the rage at the various fashion weeks that have just been and gone, sported by the likes of Diane Kruger and Leigh Lezark. It’s favoured too by modern icon Alexa Chung, who recently wore a very ruffled and feminine LWD (little white dress) out to the GQ Men of the Year awards. If Miss Chung is wearing it, then you know you’re probably on to a good thing.
Check out the gallery above for our top 5 favourite little white dresses in the high street.
The fashion elite were out in force last night in New York’s Soho to celebrate the opening of Chanel’s boutique store.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler and Claire Danes all put in an appearance at the event hosted, of course, by Karl Lagerfeld.
SJP opted for a cute striped pale pink and black dress, which she teamed up with a sparkly jacket, while Liv Tyler went for a jumpsuit paired up with flat on-trend brogues. Claire went for the casual look in jeans, black boots and a blazer.
Fashion favourite Alexa Chung, who is famous for her love of Chanel wowed as usual with a cute patterned three colour frock by the designer, while Diane Kruger, who has previously been described as Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld’s muse, who looked incredible in a ruffled dress by the label.
Gossip Girls Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, who wear Chanel on set also turned up to the party. Blake opted for an on-trend metallic blue dress while Leighton went for a safe LBD.
We’ve been so excited about some actresses dresses this year and have been guessing for a while what each one will be wearing. One such celeb that kept our curiosity buzzing was brit beauty Kate Winslet, who always pulls off great looks at events.
And she didn’t disappoint with her silverpanelled bodice and matching satin skirt. But it wasn’t just the outfit. The actress also shone (quite literally) with her blonde locks, which she left down.
Other A-listers to grace the carpet were Twighlight star Kristen Stewart, who actually made a huge effort in a black fishtail frock. However, even this wasn’t enough to put a smile on the sulky starlet’s face.
Celebs turned out in force for the first awards evening of 2010 and The People’s Choice Awards held at the Nokia Theatre last night did not disappoint, giving us the drama and fashion sites you would expect from such a star studded bash.
Although Mariah Carey looked a vision in her white mermaid style dress, the diva didn’t do so well when it came to taking the stage to accept her Favorite R&B Singer award. She was claimed to stumble and waffle for a good few minutes before being helped off the stage by her hubby.
However other celebs caught our eye for the right reasons. Sandra Bullock wowed the crowd with a gold brocade Vivienne Westwood frock, which she teamed up with Brian Atwood heels. Taylor Swift also looked her usual stunning self in a gorgeous white beaded dress.
Also making an appearance were Jessica Alba in Antonio Berardi, and Diane Kruger in Hervé Léger. We can’t wait to see what the other events of the year hold for the fashion world.
New York’s Lincoln Centre was the place to be last night as designers, models and other starlets gathered to celebrate the 2009 CFDA Awards. We’ve already brought you the list of winners – click here to get the update. So now, onto the red carpet arrivals. It was a celeb-fest with the likes of Doutzen Kroes wearing a flouncy Zac Posen frock, and Blake Lively, Coco Rocha and a preggers Heidi Klum supporting Michael Kors by wearing his clothes. Catch up on what everyone was wearing by clicking image below.
With a spectacular collection featuring black trouser suits, sparkly blazers, super mini shorts, feather trimmings and beaded dresses, models traipsed around a swimming pool at the Raleigh Hotel in South Beach. Celebrity attendees included Chanel recruit Diane Kruger, Zoe Kravitz, and Anna Kournikova. Click play on the video above to watch a snippet of the catwalk show.
If you’re of the school that likes to match your shoes to your bag, or anything else for that matter, you’re out of luck this spring!
The bright, patent pumps we’ve been seeing lately made quite a statement at the Met Gala last night – in neon pink on Diane Kruger and bright blue on Katie Holmes.
While he may not be snagging any stellar starring roles of late, Joshua Jackson certainly pulled it out as Diane Kruger’s leading man at last night’s Costume Institute Gala. If only Dawson could see him now.
Kruger was wearing a short silver dress with neck detailing by Alberta Ferretti. Likewise, Jennifer Lopez oozed early Hollywood glamour in the one-shouldered blue Alberta Ferretti gown, with bling encrusted neckline and cuff.
Some of the best styles at fashion shows often aren’t on the runway, but on the people watching. And when it’s couture week and the fashion forward decend apon Paris you’re in for a treat. We’ve chosen some of our favorites we’ve seen around town this week (through photograph only, sigh).
It’s always nice to see something than the standard black or red or, this season, purple, on the red carpet. And it’s always nice to see something different in general, but we’re not sure about the feather tassle thingies on Diane Kruger’s dress. We know feathers are in, and the orange of this dress is perfect for her skin tone and we love almost everything else about it. You just don’t want to have something that makes people stop during a perfectly admiring glance and say, what’s that?
Movies Rock, much like Fashion Rocks, is a celebration of music in film and was held at the Kodak Theatre last night. Singers and actors mingled on the red carpet, while songs from popular movies were performed by the likes of Mary J. Blige, Fergie and Jennifer Lopez. For the blonde stars on the red carpet, it seems that a black dress was the essential item, though in Jennifer Morrison’s case it was a black jumpsuit. Diane Kruger showed off her legs in a strapless black mini dress, accessorised with a silver clutch, red lipstick and black Manolo Blahniks. Alicia Silverstone chose a drop waist handkerchief hem black dress, with Jennifer Morrison choosing a dramatic black jumpsuit with very wide legs.
