Victoria Beckham’s new collection channels her “inner girl”

By emilyborrett on September 21st, 2011

Victoria Beckham has revealed that her new collection for her affordable diffusion line, Victoria by Victoria Beckham, was inspired by her “inner girl”. Um, Victoria, you know you actually are a girl, right? Maybe you’ve been around all-boys for too long..

Victoria has turned out to actually be  a very accomplished fashion designer – so we’re all for her keeping up the good work with a new collection for her diffusion range, which is cheaper than her main ready-to-wear line. The singer-turned-designer said: “It’s definitely channelling my inner girl. I started this collection before I was pregnant and the doctors told me at first I was having a boy. So mainly I wanted to do dresses that I wanted, that weren’t ‘out there’ – and at the same time show that, contrary to what most people think, I do have a sense of humour.” Yeah, you tell ‘em!

If you’re wondering why it’s taken Madam Beckham so long to create this second diffusion collection after her first one, it’s because she’s a perfectionist and was waiting for the best. She told Britain’s Grazia magazine: “It has taken ages to get this together because it took a long time to find a factory that could deliver the right quality at the right price. Otherwise we’d have done it sooner.”

It is undisputable that Mr Marc Jacobs is the king of fashion right now. With his own hugely successful self-titled lines, as well as creative directorship at Louis Vuitton and rumours that he may also be taking over Dior, he’s got a finger in every one of the yummiest fashion pies right now.

Yesterday’s Marc for Marc Jacobs show at NYFW was one of the hottest tickets around – it always is – and the Tattooed One didn’t let us down with a cool collection of sportswear-inspired casual pieces. Each piece was beautifully simple with a modern, clean feel to it that reminds us of European designers such as Jil Sander, mixing utilitarian slate-greys with little splashes of Crayola colour here and there for a playful twist.

There was a clear “boyfriend” vibe about the collection as Jacobs had opted for masculine, simple styles that when worn looked like they might have been pinched from a fashionable boyfriend’s wardrobe. From crisp, oversized shirt dresses to pink-and-white striped short suits, it seemed to us to be a very masculine take on casual womenswear.

Our favourite thing about the collection were the accessories – Monsieur Jacobs is, after all, the king of accessory design – fresh 90s-style hi-top trainers in childish, primary colours which added a carefree twist to some of the more austere-looking designs.

Viva Marc! Check out the gallery above to see the new Marc for Marc Jacobs collection.

First Look: Matthew Williamson’s new diffusion line at My-Wardrobe.com

Leopard Bubble Sleeve Belted Coat

How gorgeous is this leopard-printed dress coat? We love the clear vintage and sixties inspirations.

It’s time to get your emergency credit card out, girls, because today British design genius Matthew Williamson has finally unveiled his first diffusion line, MW, on My-Wardrobe.com today. When we say affordable it’s still really quite expensive, but sshhh, it’s still very exciting and I’m quite tempted to go without food for a month to get my mitts onto one of the collection’s pieces.

So far there are only three pieces available on the site but we’ve heard tell that more will be added soon, as there will also be jewellery as part of the collection with prices starting at £98. We’re already impressed and excited with what we’ve seen – I’m completely obsessed with the MW leopard-printed bubble coat, which reminds me of sixties It girls such as Edie Sedgwick.

If you feel like blowing a load of money on something really special today I’d recommend checking it out, and keep looking back to check for more pieces being added. Want to shop the collection? Find it here.

Balmain’s new diffusion line is set to hit stores in December

By emilyborrett on July 27th, 2011

The luxury label Balmain is most well-known for its opulent and glitzy designs

It looks like it’s time for label-lovers to start saving up their pennies and stretch out their overdrafts that teeny bit further, as high-powered superlabel Balmain announces the launch of its new diffusion line, Pierre Balmain, will happen in December.

The diffusion line aims to target a younger, more on-the-pulse market with a collection of more affordable pieces, stocking knitwear, basic tees, denim and tailoring for both men and women. When we say more affordable, it’s not that affordable, with some of the more glamorous pieces coming in at  a cool £795, but we’re still going to want a piece of the action, even if we can only afford a T-shirt.

The director of Balmain, Alain Hivelin, said on the new label’s launch: “We see Pierre Balmain as a new and distinct brand that is inspired by the successes and history of a great house, but offers a look and product that respond to the needs and desires of today’s marketplace…. Our goal is to position Pierre Balmain as a new global brand that will be established in all the key international markets.”

To us, Balmain has always been the wild child at Paris Fashion Week – always fabulously over the top and rock and roll with sprayed-on silhouettes and brilliant metallics. Can we expect the same from their diffusion line, or will we be surprised? Watch this space.

Jil Sander to create cheaper fashion line

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2010

Jil Sander.jpg

It’s good news for those of us still feeling the fashion pinch in our wallets with the news that Jil Sander will be launching a brand new, lower priced line.

According to WWD, the new collection – Jil Sander Navy – which has been designed by Raf Simons, will be available next spring. It’s said to include casual items such as t-shirts, jumpers and a range of accessories.

Alessandro Cremonesi, chief executive of Jil Sander, told WWD: “This is a strategic first step to grow the Jil Sander business as we aim to reach out to a vaster clientele. Not only does it address market needs, but it will complement the pre-collections and the runway offering.”

He added that the Navy collection would be targeted at a younger customer

We’re saving from now.

Balmain will not be launching a diffusion line.

By Andrea Petrou on January 28th, 2010
Paris Spring-Summer 2009 Ready To Wear Fashion Week - Balmain Runway

We thought we wouldn’t have to be bearers of bad news again today (we thought Ugly Betty being axed was enough) but it seems the fashion world has other ideas with news that Balmain won’t be launching a diffusion line.

We were really excited last week when the fashion grapevine went into full swing (we didn’t report on it because we didn’t want to get your hopes up) claiming that the brand was going to launch a lower priced collection. However, it seems as though this is not the case.

A Balmain representative told Vogue: “There is no Balmain lower priced line. What I think you might be referring to is a capsule collection that was prepared for some Parisian retailers.”

If we were texting this story we’d finish it with a ” :( ” just to show how unhappy we are.
