ShinyStyle Watch: Madonna’s MDG sunglasses ad campaign
Madonna’s campaigns with D&G have become well known throughout the fashion industry and if you’re a regular reader you would have seen our previews of the AW2010 ads featuring the star.
A few months ago we bought you the news that Madge had gone a step further with the Italian designer brand and collaborated with it to co-design an eyewear range. And we’ve been lucky enough to get hold of the ad video, which of course she stars in, for you to check out.
The singer poses with, and gets a little bit saucy, with male model, Tyson Ballou, for the MDG logo sunglasses vid shot by Steven Klein. We doubt this is the last we’ll be seeing of the star.
SS2010 trends: Summer Sunglasses
The sun’s been shining all week, and after the dismal few months many of us are embracing it by dusting out those spring tops, and re-stocking our wardrobes with the latest spring trends (sorry credit card).
One essential item for this season is of course sunglasses. And although we know many of you are thinking it’s a tad early, we’ve seen a good few ladies already sporting these to shield their eyes from the rays.
This season’s sunnies are all about aviator styles, pinks and of course florals. Go with one of these styles to fit in with the trends, or opt for a classic designer pair, think Chanel, Vivienne Westwood or Madonna’s latest range for D&G, that will keep you going throughout the next few years.
We’ve put together a gallery of sunnies to help you out, but remember, it’s not cool to wear these when you’re on the tube, in a club or anywhere else there’s no sun. Unless of course you’re a hip-hop star or rapper in training.
ShinyStyle Gallery: D&G L.A. opening attracts Tinsel Town’s starlets
Via our sister site, Catwalk Queen…
The number one place to be on Monday night was at the opening of the new D&G flagship store in Los Angeles. Dolce & Gabbana certainly have some fine young thangs for pals, inviting a plethora of young Hollywood stars to their glitzy bash on Robertson Blvd. The opening also doubled as a charity event, to raise funds for The Art of Elysium – a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of artists and critically ill children. Among the high-profile guests were Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Lauren Conrad, Rumer Willis, and Paris and Nicky Hilton. We have all the red carpet pics of what they wore – check out our special gallery!

Scarlett’s stunning in winter white

If you packed up all your little white dresses and shoes, Scarlett Johansson’s look at a Parkinson’s disease fundraiser in New York City might have you getting them back out again.
She wore her Dolce & Gabbana dress the best way you can – with Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds. (Okay, any diamonds will do.) Her jewels and shoes took the dress from dressy daytime ensemble to a perfect after-hours outfit.

Designer Pick of the Week: D&G Dolce & Gabbana Calfskin Leather Duffle Bag

We don’t care if this is a men’s duffle bag, it’s gorgeous.
The D&G Dolce & Gabbana calfskin leather duffle bag, $895, would make such a chic carry on. And we wouldn’t even be opposed to carrying it as a purse on those days when we have lots of errands and don’t want to add more plastic bags to the landfill.
The distressed leather has just the right amount of shine for fall, the gray is a terrific alternative to black and even the brasstone hardware works.
Would you wear a men’s bag? Tell us in the comments.

Dolce & Gabbana’s spring 2009 girl is not worried about the failing economy – she slept through the news of all the banks failing. The designers call this collection Pajama Baroque, a slightly upscale version of the name we gave it – sexy pajama party. More Upper East Side than Playboy Manion, naturalmente. This is one line that did not pander to woes about an economic crisis and we’re happy for it because it’s also one of the more exciting collections we’ve seen.
Star power doesn’t hurt either. J.Lo, Dita Von Teese, models galore…they were all front row and on the runway.

Dolce & Gabbana’s new limited-edition sunglasses
Dolce & Gabbana have created three new sunglass designs for summer, each featuring 112 Swarovski crystals on the sides in floral formations.
Each frame will come in black or white with colored semiprecious stones like turquoise and coral.
Retailing for $960, the glasses will hit shelves at Ilori, Dolce & Gabbana boutiques and speciality stores this month.

Vogue’s next ‘It’ girl: Julie Macklowe

Usually everyone’s talking about the latest Hollywood “It” girl, but we’re more interested in fashion’s It girls – and what better barometer than Vogue.
It’s rumored that New York socialite Julie Macklowe will hold the coveted title in Vogue’s July issue.
Though socialite probably isn’t the right descriptor for the fashionista since in addition to being a staple of the social circuit, Macklowe is also a career woman as a portfolio manager for Sigma Capital Management.
Update: Olsens, Hilary Duff and more celebs confirmed for Costume Institute Gala

Tons more celebs have been confirmed for the Costume Institute Gala next week, and the designers are finally dishing on who they’re dressing.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will be attending with Diane von Furstenberg, who has designed custom dresses for the duo.
But Marc Jacobs may have the most girls on his arm – Sofia Coppola, Karen Elson, Rachel Feinstein and Helena Christensen will all be his guests.

Designer Pick of the Week: Dolce & Gabbana framed leather handbag

This Dolce & Gabbana framed leather handbag is technically part of their spring offerings, but I love it for fall. The soft brown sort of modernizes the gray tones we’ve been seeing and the black trim makes it a neutral fit for any outfit. Though, at $2,175 I doubt anyone who could afford it would be caught dead in a spring ’08 bag next fall. More like spring ’09.
One thing that makes me dry heave? The thought of people wearing it with the matching shoes!
