There has got to be a dress for everyone in this collection, in store I counted at least 10, five of which I tried on and one of which I purchased. Thirteen of them are online. If you’re looking for your first spring dress or something for Easter this would be an excellent place to start.
There are a ton of trapeze dresses which hide a multitude of sins, but if you’re curvy, they may end up looking a little tent-like. A couple, like the crosshatch apron dress and corset front dress were a little too costumey. But perhaps this was because I’d just come from seeing The Other Boleyn Girl.
The dress prices range from $24.99 to $39.99. For more on the frock I chose, keep reading.
While there may be a dusting of snow (or more) in many parts of the country, it is a bright sunny day outside so if you just ignore the white stuff you can almost imagine it’s spring. And when we imagine spring, we picture ourselves in pretty dresses.
So here we’ve chosen a few for your summer shopping needs. Just be sure to pick up a matching cardi if you plan on wearing any of these for Easter!
The J. Crew catalog always manages to brainwash me into thinking I’m more outdoorsy than I truly am. When I get their winter catalog, all I can think of is ski vacations and time spent by the fire. And I want to fill my wardrobe with staples for such an existence, even though I usually only get one weekend in the mountains and have no fireplace.
Then, come the spring/summer catalog I see days at the beach stretching before me and cocktail parties on expansive lawns in Hampton-esque glamour. Needless to say, I barely get to the beach anymore, and my cocktail hour is more likely to be in a bar.
But who says you can’t dress aspirationally – keep reading for how to dress for the life you want instead of the one you have.
If your idea of where to hunt for basics online is the Gap, then listen up. Basic Boutique has the t-shirts and tanks you’re looking for, but they’re from hot designers and specialty brands you may or may not have heard of. Plus they have so much more, at so affordable prices. They also offer free shipping on all orders – the holy grail of online shopping.
Reader Kelsey wrote in to ask for advice on an outfit for her 3-year anniversary that would compliment her size-12 figure. We chose a silver satin Chloe and Reese dress with some accessories that pop. The dress’s high waistline, wide neckline, demure yet sexy length, and wide straps that allow for a bra will all do Kelsey justice. Along with the silver dress we chose BCBGirls rhinestone slingbacks because many of us already have a similar pair in our closet, and if you don’t, at $66, these will be a workhorse for your dressy wardrobe. Read on for more info on the rest of the dazzling accessories.
Isabelle over at Catwalk Queen recently featured this dress as part of a holiday shopping outfit for CQ’s 12 Outfits of Christmas, and we liked it so much we wanted to show it to our readers, too. As Isabelle mentions, The French Connection Fairfield dress is just the perfect dress to throw on (and would work well being pulled on and off in a dressing room) and hit the streets. Perfectly office-appropriate, you could certainly wear it out after work as well. If we had $158 to spend on ourselves this time of year, we’d be wearing this simply everywhere, excepting the fact that it only goes up to a size 10.
Watch an eLuxury.com fashion shoot and find out details about a few of their fabulous holiday fashions, some of which are even on sale. It’s a good video for checking out how stylists pair up different accessories with different outfits.
We love finding resort items that can be worn in everyday life, like this Zoe dress from Jovovich-Hawk (we love finding long-sleeve dresses any season, actually). The $526 silk dress comes in a stunning royal blue and features a removable chiffon belt. The removable belt is key as you can adjust the waistline to the height that’s most flattering on you. And while it isn’t going to win any warmth awards, it’s not too skimpy and with tights and/or boots might be bearable even on chilly city streets.
Just in time for the holidays, a new dress label has hit that will help us not be seen in the same Banana Republic frock as everyone else. Chloe & Reese dresses are designed in fabrics like satins, taffetas and imported wools from Italy, Spain and France with each style interchangeable among the fabrics, over a dozen colors, and even skirt length. Talk about customizable, this could save you a trip to the tailor. For pics of more dresses and information on where to buy, keep reading.
We’ve languished over the fact that we rarely have anywhere resorty to go that would require any sort of resort wardrobe, but now we’re getting over it and making the best. We’ve chosen the top 10 resort pieces to wear right where you live – to work, to parties, out on the town. We’ve even found some pieces that will help you keep cozy in colder climes. I’m sure somewhere a doyenne on the upper east side is rolling her eyes that we would concieve wearing resort fashions anywhere other than Biarritz, but so be it.
We love this Prada bag for anywhere any time of year. The leather tote, available at select Saks Fifth Avenue stores, could double as a carry on if you like to look chic in-flight or on the road, and has just enough structure to pull off at the office. We adore the green, but if we were going to spend $1,495, we’d want it in black.
Wow–what a great episode tonight! When “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style” began tonight on Bravo, I was annoyed by the subject, Rebecca, 26, from Hoboken. Petite, svelte, and so very cute, she kept saying how she is so self-conscious of her curves and how she likes to cover up her body with jeans and striped tunics. She has a GREAT body, even the lingerie expert said so! And she said Rebecca has a great butt, which was too funny. So Tim took her to see someone who can help her see her inner beauty, and outer beauty! It was remarkable to see Rebecca really feel she was attractive after meeting with style coach Jared Weiss. She had loads of great advice for her, such as :
1. If you can wear a garbage bag with confidence, you can wear anything.
2. “I cannot control how I am perceived, I can only control how I am presented.”
It seems you can officially wear a drop-waist dress when you’re not dressed up as a 20′s flapper, as designers have been updating the style for a few seasons now and have really got the knack of it. We’ve chosen our favorites of the bunch to punch up your late-summer wardrobe and provide layering pieces for fall. Details after the jump.
