eBay launches Christmas boutique with QR code shopping

By shinychris on November 24th, 2011

ebay-image.jpgOver the past few years we’ve seen QR codeseverywhere, on foodclothes and evengravestones. Yes, we said gravestones.

Well this Christmas, we’ll be seeing hundreds of them on all kinds of clothes, gifts and furniture items, as online marketplace eBay intends to use them to make shopping even easier in its festive pop-up shop.

The brand is launching a new Christmas boutique in London at the beginning of December, which aims to give stressed shoppers the best of both worlds, the in-store browsing experience with the selection, deals and distinct lack of queuing we’ve become accustomed to online.

The new boutique will stock a range of items and each will have its own unique QR code. Shoppers then use their phones to scan these QR codes to buy without the fuss, queuing, tills and even bags, because once you’ve purchased something it’ll get delivered straight to your door. Goodbye awkward tube journey with 5,487,823 bags and no air!

eBay’s new shopping concept seems like a brilliant idea, it gives us peace of mind that the items we’re buying actually look good in real life and it’s popping up (sorry) just in time for Christmas. However, just like buying things with a store card sometimes doesn’t feel real, buying things by swiping your phone around like you’re a little kid playing shop might not seem real too, so be careful you don’t overdo it.

eBay unveils new fashion campaign

By Andrea Petrou on October 17th, 2011

Sponsored Post

eBay, the UK’s leading online marketplace, is unveiling a new fashion advertising campaign to promote its Fashion Outlet.

The autumn-winter adverts will feature fashion items from some of the leading brands that sell through the site, including House of Fraser, Office and La Redoute, Joe Browns and Very Clearance.

The campaign strapline, “The clothes you love direct from the brands you love”, reflects the growing number of high-street retailers that use eBay to reach to the site’s 96 million users across the globe. The sale of in-season stock on eBay’s Fashion Outlet, has secured shoe retailer Office, 50,000 new customers.

Outdoor ads will appear on buses, billboards and in stations in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool and Sheffield from 3rd October, lasting two weeks.

Print activity will start on 4th October, with ads in women’s weekly lifestyle magazines, including Grazia, Hello and More, and in early November for women’s monthly magazines, such as Marie Claire and Glamour.

eBay’s Fashion Outlet launched in April last year, and now hosts over 100 fashion brands and 30 high-street stores including Superdry, Bench, Ted Baker and Jigsaw, offering shoppers the best deals and discounts on new, branded goods up to 70% off.

The fashion category on eBay is outpacing the market, with transaction volume growing 30% year on year over 2010, attracting over four million customers searching for items each month.

Miriam Lahage, VP of Fashion for eBay said: “We’re attracting growing numbers of shoppers to our Fashion category as consumers want to choose from a huge selection of products, from the brands they know and love, at great prices. Our latest campaign showcases the unique fashion offering available on our site – only on eBay can you get the combination of the biggest brands and the best of the high street, combined with that special vintage find, and that illusive top from last season.”

Miley Cyrus auctions off her clothes on Ebay for charity

By admin on August 12th, 2010

If we’d told you last year that Miley Cyrus was auctioning off her clothes for charity, you may have told your little sister and thought no-more of it.

However, with the star’s outfits becoming raunchier and including see-through sundresses, $25,000 corsets, and mesh leotards you’ll be as excited as us to hear that you can get your hands on some of these.

According to MTV the 17-year-old singer is clearing out her closet and auctioning them off on eBay to raise money for Get Ur Good On, a social network charity that connects youth with volunteer and service opportunities in their communities.

Miley said in a video on eBay: “For me, I get this amazing blessing and opportunity to do this every day and get up on stage and hopefully inspire people with my music.

“And that’s something that’s really important to me, but so is getting involved in charities.”

Happy bidding ladies.

Asos to launch recycled fashion market place

By Andrea Petrou on May 5th, 2010

Asos africa collection.jpg

Not content with being one of our favourite online shopping spots Asos is pushing the fashion boat one step further.

It’s announced plans to launch an online marketplace for people to buy recyclable clothes and encourage us to shop in a more eco-friendly way.

The new site will let shopaholics trade their own clothes through a virtual online marketplace, and unlike auction sites such as Ebay all prices will be fixed. Asos will also give you advice on how to sell items and how to display them as well as watching out for counterfeit goods.

We can’t wait to give it a go when it launches later on this year.

Ebay launches Fashion Outlet

By Andrea Petrou on April 27th, 2010

Thumbnail image for ebay-logo1.jpg
Ebay is a perfect place to find vintage, designer and unique clothing and accessories at bargain prices. And just when we thought the site couldn’t get any better it’s only gone and proved us wrong.

The site has decided to extend it’s reach and branched out into selling discounted items (up to 70% off!) from highstreet store. From today we’ll be able to get our hands on bargain brand new clothing from places such as Office and Ted Baker.

And if this wasn’t enough the site has also revamped it’s whole Fashion category to include a ‘More Like This’ function that searches thousands of items to give you similar matches to your original search.

Narciso.jpg

Purses at the ready ladies, especially those of you who like a designer bargain.

Today Narciso Rodriguez has launched an exclusive collection on eBay for those of us mourning the loss of designer creations in our wardrobe due to the credit crunch.

The collection priced from £40 – £225 includes fitted dresses, simple, sleek tailoring and contemporary classics, which will fill the designer wardrobe gap for a good few months.

Rodriguez said, “I am extremely excited by the possibilities that this new online sales channel brings to my business long term.

“For me it’s always been about dressing many women of all ages, all types, all sizes, and this special collection on eBay is a unique opportunity to reach a broad global audience.”

The range is available in sizes 4 to 18, but you better get those fingers on your keyboards now as we don’t think this collection will stay around for long.

Jimmy Choo for H&M: My queuing experience

By Andrea Petrou on November 14th, 2009

Jimmy choo.jpgThis morning, before the light had even come through and the birds hadn’t even sung their first song, I was up and about eagerly preparing for my day of Jimmy Choo heaven at H&M. I thought I was ready physically and mentally. I had my purse, donned my flattest most comfortable boots (I’m not ashamed to admit they were Uggs) and got my gloves.

I’m no stranger to queueing for such events, I’ve waited patiently for Karl Lagerfeld’s and Matthew Williamson’s collections for H&M and always try to be first in the Gucci queue at the Harrods sale. Therefore I had also prepared myself for the pushing and shoving that’s bound to happen when you put too many bargain hungry fashionistas in one cramped place and make them wait.

However I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything like the scenes I saw this morning. My tube, which is at the end of a north London line and a good 45 minutes from London, was packed with squeeling 15 and 16 year olds who covered the carriages wearing the latest trends and talking loudly about what they were going to buy. Zebra print bags and sandals, being the most heard phrase. Others sat shouting about their queueing game plan.

By the time we neared the final stop I could barely move for the hoards of fashionistas raring to go. And as soon as those tube doors opened it was a rush to the escalators and to the great outdoors where we were one step closer to this years fashion must haves.

The queue was already winding around the corner and the first half was covered in sleeping bags, which eager girls had obviously pitched up the night before. I joined and waited patiently despite being pushed left, right and centre and being caught up amongst arguments started by the standard “you’ve pushed in.”

I even managed to talk to a few girls. One told me: “I would have come earlier, but I didn’t want to leave my baby on his own for too long.”
Another said she’d been saving up hard for months to “really make the trip worth it.”

It was then I really began to wonder why we’re so desperate to get our hands on such items. Was a Jimmy Choo shoe, handbag suede dress or sequined jacket really important enough to risk something happening to your baby for?

And as the girls, who had chosen to spend their night freezing on a cold pavement rather than enjoying a Friday night out with friends, walked past smugly holding their rewards (I spotted a good few boxes and handbag straps poking out of those bags) I realised that this mad frenzy wasn’t for me.

I was hours from the front, and although I would have previously killed for even a buckle of this collection, the crazy, and at times, downright desperate, atmosphere was too much.

So I did something I’d never done before. I chickened out.

Taking myself to the nearest internet cafe I logged onto Ebay and typed in the probably most popular search of the day: Jimmy Choo for H&M. Well, I may have lost the Jimmy Choo queue battle, but I’m certainly not going to lose the war.

I’ll let you know how I got on next week but if you were one of the lucky girls who got hold of some of the collection I’d love to hear from you. Leave your comment below and let me know.

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 30th, 2008

New LV.jpg

When we show you a new Louis Vuitton bag, like the $1,050 Palermo PM at right, or share our Louis Vuitton resort handbags preview, it’s a pretty sure bet that cheaper lookalikes will soon be popping up on street corners and online auctions like Ebay.

But a new court ruling provides restitution to Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton, punishing Ebay for allowing the sale of fake LV’s, Christian Dior fashions, and several prestige fragrances.
