Summer seems to be over judging by the measly 14 degrees as I left the flat this morning. But that means autumn is just around the corner, and with it an abundance of big jackets and chunky, comforting knitwear.
If you’re after expanding your winter wardrobe but want to do it with a green heart and choose eco friendly fashion, Edun is the brand for you. The brand of Ali Hewson and Bono, offers an array of stylish yet sustainable fashion perfect for wintery fun.
Edun’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection focuses on fashionable, utilitarian outerwear, particularly jackets and coats that combine leather and wool. The catwalk also showed textured knitwear made in Africa by nuns (!): dresses, cardigans, pullovers and skirts in variations of the classic Fair Isle pattern.
In contrast to the more heavy winter wear were girly draped dresses and blouses in intense patterns and vivid colours.
Part of the fun of fashion shows held outside the tents is getting to see some of the fabulous venues around New York City. (We can’t wait to tell you about the downtown Bumble & Bumble space after Liz McClean later!) But what is with the setting stealing the show? First Lorick’s fabulous sets and then Be EcoChic presents its collection in the Hall of Biodiversity at the American Museum of Natural History.
But, Be EcoChic had celebrity on its side. Who’s going to be looking at the giant whale poised over the runway when Alek Wek is strutting her stuff?
Since you’ll need to be comfortable while biking, walking, or taking public transportation to cut back on your carbon emissions this Earth day we came up with a comfy-casual outfit for the occasion. Keep reading for product details.

Looks like Julie Gilhart, fashion director for Barney’s New York, is such a big fan of Rogan Gregory’s upcoming capsule collection for Target’s Go International range that she’s arranged for the mass retailer to launch the collection at the New York and Beverly Hills Barney’s New York stores.
The latest CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award winner, Rogan Gregory, who was honored for his work on Edun, a collaboration with Bono, now has another high profile collaboration in the works. The designer is said to be signed on for a “seasonal collaboration” with Target. The campaign was shot by photographer Sarah Silver last week in New York. Perhaps we can look for apparel and objects?
Edun designer Rogan Gregory, seen here with Bono and wife Ali Hewson, took home the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award at last night’s 7th on Sale gala. The ethical clothing designer has beaten out tough competition to win the $200,000 prize – like runners up Phillip Lim and jewelry designer Philip Crangi, who each recieved $50,000. Other finalists included Erin Fetherston, who will likely win in her own way with her Target collection, Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian and Victoria Bartlett of VPL, and Angela Donhauser and Adi Gil of Threeasfour among others. This is the first year that a business advisory committee made up of presidents and CEOs of labels like Calvin Klein, Cole Haan, and Diane Von Furstenberg will provide guidance and advice for all finalists.

Since Caravan brings a variety of designer fashions to their customers at their homes, hotels, or offices with Caravan Mobile, it seems only fitting that they bring a variety of designers from around the world to their fashion week presentation. It was a real change of pace and exciting opportunity to see a lot of different designer’s pieces – like Vivienne Westwood, Social Atelier, Loomstate, Edun and more – all in one show. Plus, it was one of my only chances to see menswear this week, and I saw an actress from two of my favorite teen dramas! Keep reading to find out who!
