Emily Blunt loves the evocative smell of YSL Opium

By Andrea Petrou on November 23rd, 2011

Emily Blunt agreed to become the face and ambassadress for Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium fragrance because fragrances “evoke” so many memories for people.

The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ actress will star in the new TV and print campaigns for the “evocative” scent – which was created by perfumer Jean-Louis Sieuzac in 1977 – and Emily revealed she loves fragrances because scent is so important to her.

She explained to People: “I think really that’s what I love most about it – it evokes so much for people. Everyone always says they’ve smelled something, and remember this beautiful memory they experienced maybe many years ago. There’s something very powerful about it.”

Emily’s new advertising campaign for the brand – where she plays a woman on the hunt for the Opium fragrance – will air in December and Emily revealed she was thrilled to play a role rather than simply pose with the product.

She said: “It was thrilling. I was given a story to play, and for me as an actress that’s very exciting. I’m not just posing or just trying to sell something.”

Speaking about the perfume previously she said: “”It is a really exciting experience to embody this legendary fragrance, which has stood the test of time without its allure ever being diminished. Being a part of this new campaign and being able to tell the story of this very evocative fragrance is a real thrill.”

Renaud de Lesquen, president of YSL & Designer Brands, explained the new campaign will portray “a fiery, almost reckless woman with magnetic seduction, that nobody or nothing can resist”.

He added: “Opium embraces the whole history and values of our house.”

Spotted: Keira Knightley, Leighton Meester, Heidi Klum and more

Keira Knightley opted for her trademark romantic look in this gorgeous crystal lace dress at the Toronto Film Festival

With it being both the fashion season and the film festival season at the moment, it’s a pretty good time for sneaking peeks at celebs’ best red carpet and party outfits. Today we weren’t let down at all by what we found.

Keira Knightley was spotted at the Toronto International Film Festival looking absolutely amazing in a nude lace crystal dress, with a sleek dark bob and angelic make up. We think that’s an Elie Saab dress that she’s wearing, lucky girl, but we could be wrong.. This is definitely a look that really works for her – we’re glad she sticks to it. We also spotted Emily Blunt looking quite foxy in a halter-necked black jumpsuit which looked cool with her laidback wavy hair and smoky eyes.

Meanwhile as New York Fashion Week continues, we spotted the Charmed actress Rose McGowan looking extremely sultry in an amazing magenta structured cocktail dress which matched the colour of her lipstick. This is one actress we never thought would come zooming back into our style radar, but we’re often surprised.. Meanwhile, the statuesque Heidi Klum towered over Christian Siriano backstage in a clinging back dress with a sheer chiffon skirt.

The Worst Dressed In The World EVER Award goes to Kelly Osbourne, who rocked up to Fashion’s Night Out in Chicago wearing a red rubber T-shirt. I don’t think I need to say any more than that.

To see who we’ve been spotting, check out the gallery above.

Cannes day 9: AmfArRs Cinema Against AIDS benefit gala

By Andrea Petrou on May 21st, 2010

Day 9 of the Cannes Film Festival saw A-listers dressing up in the name of charity for the AmfArRs Cinema Against AIDS benefit gala at the Hotel du Cap.

And it was a night of sophisticated designer dresses. Diane Kruger, Rachel Bilson and Kirsten Dunst went for glam in Chanel dresses while Michelle Williams went for short and daring in a sequined dress by Sonia Rykiel.

Fresh off her catwalk debut Mischa Barton went for Marchesa while Jennifer Lopez unsurprisingly opted for a pink princess frock by Roberto Cavalli.

Paris Hilton also turned up in a white bridal inspired number. However our best dressed starlets of the night have to be Kate Beckinsale, who looked amazing in a silver gown by Armani Prive and Emily Blunt who wowed us in a simple red dress.

Oscars 2010: red carpet style questions we can’t wait to answer

By laurenbravo on March 7th, 2010

wenn2751592.jpgLauren Bravo reports:

Hurrah hurrah, Oscars night is upon us! As the stars primp, preen and polish up those pebble-sized diamonds, we at ShinyStyle are ready for a night of sumptuous Hollywood fashion.

Ever-dedicated to being first on the scene with style gossip, Andrea and I are all set in our pyjamas with Red Bull and Dairy Milk standing by, to stay up all night and bring you the good, the bad and the ugly from the red carpet…

So as we gear up for the big (Louboutin-ed) kick-off, here are the top five questions I want answering this evening:

Will maxi or mini prevail?
Ok, long dresses are the bread and butter of award ceremonies (making them the panettone and clotted cream of this, the calendar’s most important film event). But in recent years we’ve seen a few steps away from the traditional floor-sweeper and towards minis and flirty ’50s-style ballerina lengths, especially on the younger, hipper starlets. Then there’s always the kooky one or two who will plump for trousers (Meryl, my money’s on you).

Will anybody drown in Mariah’s cleavage?
For once, the woman should be exuding a bit of class. After her acclaimed turn in Precious (for which she frumped up like a pro), one would hope she’d take the chance to dress the part of a serious thespian. But then, if her appearances at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards are anything to go by, maybe she’ll stick with the diamanté-encrusted persona that we know and, um, love. Either way, I reckon there’ll be bazoomas on display.

wenn2714773.jpgWill the Brit girls wave the fashion flag?
Kate Winslet can always be relied on for some old-school glamour, usually in a trademark figure-hugging sheath dress. Meanwhile, rising star Carey Mulligan ought to give her a run for her money, with the combination of refined elegance and gamine edge that she’s been displaying throughout awards season. Other British ladies I’ll be excited to see include Emily Blunt, Rosamund Pike and the ever-sexy grand Dame of awards fashion, Helen Mirren.

Which of the Nine girls will come out on top?
It may have been a little bit style-over-substance, but Rob Marshall’s musical homage to Fellini delivered one of the sexiest casts we’ve seen this year. With Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman and Fergie all representing Nine tonight, I’m keen to see who will bring that showgirl pzazz to the red carpet.

What will 2010′s key colour be?
In previous years we’ve seen black, red, pink and midnight blue all take turns to be Oscar hue du jour. But this year I’m predicting that the stars will keep things pale and interesting with nude, white and pastel shades, as well as a bit of striking monochrome. Provided a sudden downpour doesn’t turn anything see-through, things should be all white on the night… (sorry).

The Screen Actors Guild Awards: Liveblogging the red carpet

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on January 25th, 2009

SAG awards.jpg

It looks like the television stars were told to arrive at the Screen Actor’s Guild awards early, so we’re still waiting for a lot of the big movie nominees to step out of their limos. So here’s what a lot of TV’s loveliest ladies are wearing and a few movie stars too!

Jennifer Morrison (nominee, ensemble drama cast for House) – Ann Valerie Hash
Katrina Bowden (nominee, ensemble comedy cast for 30 Rock) – Christian Siriano – what up Project Runway!
Melissa Leo (nominee, female lead actor for Frozen River) – vintage/Bulgari/Judith Leiber
Holly Hunter (nominee, female actor drama for Saving Grace) – Reem Acra
Jane Krakowski - (nominee, ensemble comedy cast for 30 Rock) – Roberto Cavalli – which she knows because she was texting “her people” as she arrived and the cameras caught her!
Emily Blunt (presenter) – beautiful slinky silver number which the E! hosts failed to ask her to identify, we’re working on it! But she did mention that it was like full body Spanx.
America Ferrera (female actor comedy for Ugly Betty) – Vera Wang

Emily Blunt at Sundance Film Festival for The Great Buck Howard

By Andrea Thatcher on January 21st, 2008

Emily%20Blunt%20at%20Sundance.jpg

Emily Blunt has been keeping it casual at the Sundance Film Festival where her film The Great Buck Howard is showing. On the left, Emily stays monotone at the premiere of her film with a brown tweedy coat with an oversize collar, and camel-colored boots. It’s a great example of how to stay warm while looking chic. She takes it down a notch in the outfit on the right while hanging out around Park City. Again monochromatic in black, except for more brown boots (we like this pair even better) and a puffer jacket with a fur-lined hood.
