Emma Watson found it “completely different” to do her own make-up and choose her own clothes when she posed for a series of paintings.
The ‘Harry Potter’ actress worked with artist Mark Demsteader on the new exhibition which will benefit the African charity CAMFED and Emma admitted being on such a low-key set where didn’t have a team of stylists and make-up professionals was a strange experience.
She told vogue.co.uk: “As it takes Mark several months to create the pieces, he finds it easier to work from photographs so I met him and a photographer for a day’s photo shoot in north London back in January. It was a really simple shoot with just a single light to cast shadows. We took lots of pictures in a variety of poses and Mark went away and selected 30 or so to turn into paintings.
“Whilst I didn’t sit for Mark as such, it was a completely different photo shoot to anything I’ve ever done before. It was really low-key – I did my own makeup and just brought a selection of very simple dresses for the silhouette. Mark did the lighting.” Although Emma is thrilled with the results, she was initially hesitant about taking part.
She explained: “I haven’t really bought any art yet, even though I love it. So I contacted Mark about buying a drawing as a present to myself for my 21st birthday. When I emailed him he asked if I would let him paint me, and that was how the exhibition came about. I was slightly hesitant at first, not because I didn’t want to work with Mark, but simply because I wasn’t sure if I was comfortable with an entire exhibition of pictures of me!”

Emma Watson is reportedly dating her ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ co-star Johnny Simmon.
The 21-year-old actress – who shot to fame playing Hermione Granger in the ‘Harry Potter’ films – is said to have fallen for the 24-year-old actor on the set of the drama movie, which is being shot in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the pair are already very close.
A source said told HollywoodLife.com: “Emma and Johnny met shooting ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ and have gotten serious fast. She loves how down to earth and normal he is and thinks he’s the nicest guy. He feels the same way about her. She doesn’t act like she’s one of the biggest stars in the world.”
Although the relationship is still in its early stages, the pair are said to have become virtually inseparable
A second source said: “They have really fallen for one another and both aren’t dating anyone else. She once said she’d never move to LA, but I think she’s reconsidering … especially because Johnny lives in Los Angeles.”
Emma previously dated financier Jay Barrymore but their two-year relationship ended in March 2010 after two years.

Emma Watson sometimes feels “100 years old”.
The ‘Harry Potter’ actress – who shot to fame at the age of 11 when she first appeared in the wizard franchise – admitted while she has been through a lot in her life, she often still feels “incredibly young and very naïve”.
She said: “I’m this very weird mix. In some senses, I feel as if I’m 100 years old. In others, I still feel incredibly young, very naïve and as if I haven’t seen much of the world at all. I’ve been incredibly protected, but in other ways I’ve had to be in situations that nobody my age would.
“Sometimes I think I’m the worst person in the world to be in the situation I’m in. I’m shy, I’m sensitive and I’m self-critical. It’s a terrible combination.”
The 21-year-old beauty also thinks her notoriety “intimidates” members of the opposite sex, because she is never pursued by men.
Emma added to Style magazine: “I say to my friends, ‘Why hasn’t X called me? Why doesn’t anyone ever pursue me?’ They’re like, ‘Probably because they’re intimidated’.
“It must be the fame wall. It must be the circus that goes around me. Me, as a person, I find it hard to believe I would be intimidating.”

Emma Watson finds dressing age-appropriately is “quite difficult”.
The 21-year-old actress – who recently topped Glamour UK magazine’s Best-Dressed Women 2011 list – admits it’s hard to get the right look at red carpet events although she prefers a “less is more” approach.
Emma told WWD: “I try to dress age-appropriately, which isn’t actually that easy when obviously high-end clothing is designed for women who are older than I am.
“It’s a fine line to tread between looking smart and looking ready to go on a red carpet but also looking like I’m 21. It’s quite difficult.
“I think less is more – less makeup, less accessories is better.”
Emma – who is the face of Lancome – recently helped chose the colour of the brand’s Tresor Midnight Rose women’s fragrance, which is due out worldwide in September.
She has also been heavily involved in the advertising campaign – which was shot by Mario Testino – which impressed her bosses.
She added: “It’s funny, the guys at Lancome were like, ‘You need to be directing, Emma.’ I had ideas about every aspect. I’m sure I drove them insane.
“I was involved in the concept for the [ad] film and the tag line, ‘Catch my heart if you can.’ ”
“The hat [in the ad] was my hat, which I bought at a flea market in Paris. I was very involved in the script. It’s been really fun for me.”
Emma Watson has been named the world’s best-dressed woman.
The 21-year-old actress, who has previously been a UK Vogue cover girl and is the face of Lancome make-up, beat Cheryl Cole – last year’s number one – to the top spot in a list by Glamour magazine.
Fashion designer Victoria Beckham dropped seven places in the list to 15th, although Beyonce Knowles suffered the biggest slide from ninth last year to 36th.
Among the surprising entries are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri, who despite being just five years old was said by the magazine to have “the most covetable wardrobe in Hollywood”.
British prime minister David Cameron’s wife Samantha – who caused controversy by being among the only female guests at the wedding of Prince William and Princess Catherine on Friday to not wear a hat – was among the newcomers at number 19.
The full list was compiled by over 15,000 votes on Glamour.com, and will appear in the June issue of the magazine.
