Fashion Face-Off: Katie Price vs Jodie Marsh

By Andrea Petrou on October 14th, 2010

Jodie Marsh

All good clean fancy-dress fun as Jodie stepped out looking like a demure Southern belle in this traditional get-up of what looks like a thong made out of cotton wool. Maybe she's from Nevada...

I can spy a catfight between two of the world’s grossest girls breaking out as Jodie Marsh completely cussed out Katie Price in an interview to the Daily Star (classy), saying of her formal “glamour” rival: “Does anyone care about her any more? I don’t.” BEEF. She also made the slightly silly allegation that Katie, AKA Jordan, would “sell her own grandmother to a magazine if she could.” Silly old Jodie, what would a magazine want with Jordan’s grandma? Anyway, here’s hoping that this diss turns into a full on extension-ripping bloodbath – they could make a reality show on ITV about it.

Unfortunately, this isn’t Harry Hill’s TV Burp, so we can’t put two fat men put in glamour-model costumes and make them fight each other on telly for your amusement and entertainment. BUT, we can put them up against each other in a fashion face-off to decide – who is the worst dressed? Is it crusty old Jodie or blow-up Jordan? In fairness, they both look like they’ve been inflated and wear solely what they find in the bargain bins at Anne Summers, so it’s going to be a toughie. But it’ll be fun arguing it out. Check out the gallery below of some of their very memorable looks over the past few years, then vote for the worst-dressed. Who’s going to be crowned the foulest woman in Britain? You decide.

Who is the grossest?
Katie’s just too fishy and shiny for me
Jodie is too hairy and scary

X-Factor fashion face off: Cheryl VS Pixie Lott

By Andrea Petrou on September 14th, 2010

With Dannii Minogue still on maternity leave celebrity judges are kicking up a storm on the X-Factor.

Last week the majority said you prefered guest judge Natalie Imbruglia’s style over resident’s Cheryl, but will she still be out in the cold this week when we pit her against this weekend’s helper Pixie Lott?

As Pixie fans will already know, this singer’s style is more quirky than chic. She’s well known for her flat boots and knee high socks, and most recently has been channelling the stockings look, which is a favourite style of Taylor Momsen.

In contrast Cheryl’s style is more conventional and “polished”, with the starlet opting for little dresses, smart shorts and heels.

But who do you think is the most stylish,? View the gallery and then vote below to let us know.

X-Factor style war: Cheryl Cole vs Katy Perry

By Andrea Petrou on August 31st, 2010

Last year we became accustomed to pitting Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue against each other during each and every episode of the X-Factor.

However, with Dannii Minogue off looking after her baby it’s down to guest judges to fill her spot. And of course this has given us a great opportunity to begin an X-Factor style war. Two weeks ago Geri joined Cheryl, Simon and Louis on the panel, but if we’re honest we think Cheryl beat her hands down. However, this week the tables turned with Katy Perry making an appearance, donning a sparkly frock, which we think rivalled Cheryls military style.

We’ve therefore put together a gallery of the two and want you to tell us who you think is the most stylish. Is it Katy with her sometimes smart, sometimes quirky style? Or is it Cheryl’s designer get-up that wins your vote?

Vote below and let us know.

Mischa Barton and Amy Winehouse come to blows over Amy’s drinking

By Shiny writer on August 5th, 2010

Oh dear, these celebrities don’t have any qualms about saying what they think. And it seems Mischa Barton’s outspoken concerns about her new pal’s Amy Winehouse’s drinking have led the pair to end their very short friendship.

According to The Sun, Mischa who may be moving back to the UK permanently to settle down with boyfriend Ali Love, was catching up with new pal Amy at Camden celebrity hangout, the Hawley Arms.

However, the pair came to blows after Mischa, who is newly teetotal and stuck to tonic water all evening, tried to curb Amy’s drinking telling her that she’d had enough for the evening.

And it seems the comment was enough to spark an angry confrontation between the pair.

The Sun source said: “Obviously she [Amy] was drunk and didn’t take it well, she yelled at Mischa that it was none of her business and her mate told her to leave it.”

The pair may have fallen out over alcohol but who do you think is the most stylish off the two? Is it Amy with her trademark ballet pumps and sometimes scruffy style or is it Mischa who too favours the scruffy look but also goes for glam in vintage dresses and tops?

Fashion face-off: Megan Fox vs Rosie Huntington Whiteley

By Andrea Petrou on August 3rd, 2010

Transformers 3 filming is making great headway and we’ve been getting pictures from the filming starring new girl on the Transformers block, Rosie Huntington Whiteley who very publicly took over from Megan Fox.

But is there really a great deal of difference between the two? After all they have both starred in Transformers, modelled underwear and are seen as two of the most beautiful, not to mention stylish women in the world.

And if this didn’t make it hard enough, it seems they have very similar fashion sense. Both women will often opt for a short, yet simple frock to an event (although Rosie will sometimes go for a tight maxi) and both love their casual style.

However it’s Megan that’s the braver of the two when it comes to “slobbing out” working those leggings and Ugg boots, while Rosie is rarely snapped in anything less than jeans. And lately we’ve been leaning further towards the Victoria’s Secret model after Megan appeared at a premier looking bloated and stretched leading us to believe she had plastic surgery.

We’ve put together a gallery of the two starlet’s style. Take a look and let us know who you think should win the best dressed award by voting below.

Twilight fashion face-off: R-Patz VS Taylor Launter

By Andrea Petrou on June 30th, 2010

We know we’re ultimately a fashion and celebrity site but when there’s an opportunity to give a nod to some hot men, we can be swayed to go a little bit off topic. And this is one of those occasions.

With Twilight Eclipse looming there isn’t much longer to wait until we get to see Robert Pattinson (aka Edward) and Taylor Lautner (aka Jacob) but we thought we’d speed it up a bit, under the guise of fashion of course. We’ve decided to put together a gallery of the two men and pit them off against each other in a fashion face off and we thought we’d give you a quick rundown of their fashions to help you out.

In TwilightR-Patz is dressed in casual, sensible attire consisting of jeans, with the odd shirt thrown in to smarten him up. However when he’s on the red carpet Rob’s style is eccentric to say the least. Instead of a standard suit, he’ll opt for unusual colours, take for example the maroon Gucci suit he wore at the LA premier of Twilight Eclipse, while Taylor went for a smart tailored suit. Lautner again wore a similar style for a screening of the film at the Crosby theatre last week. However, he looked less smart next to R-Patz when the two took the stage for the Live at Jimmy Kernall show. While Rob opted for a black suit with an open neck shirt, Taylor opted for jeans and a checked shirt underneath a v-neck top.

However, it’s clear that Taylor wins when it comes to the casual off duty look opting for smart v-necks and trousers while R-Patz chooses to dress down entirely in jeans and a baseball cap.

Friday Fashion Facas: Kristen Stewart vs Dakota Fanning

By Andrea Petrou on June 25th, 2010

With Twilight mania hitting we thought we’d strike up a little bit of healthy fashion competition between some of the co-stars. We’ve already given you a fashion face-off between Ashley Greene and Kristen Stewart so today we decided it was the turn of Dakota Fanning to be pitched against the latter.

Kristen and Dakota are best friends off-stage and as well as Twilight both starred in The Runaways. And it seems being close friends has rubbed off on their style too, with both ladies opting for very similar premier dresses. At last night’s Twilight Eclipse premier both went for designer Elie Saab.

Kristen opted for a daring white backless number, while Dakota played it safer with a cute beige feathered piece. Both ladies also went for short frocks with sheer sleeve details at the The Runaways’ premier at the Cinerama Dome Arclight Theaters in Hollywood.

However, Dakota opted, for what seems to be her trademark puffball frock while Kristen went for a bodycon frock. It also seems Dakota likes to play it alot safer than Kristen opting for neutral colours such as beige and silver, in flowing styles, while Kristen goes for bodycon styles by Herve Leger, backless numbers and bright colours.

However, off the red carpet it’s a different story. While Dakota likes to experiment with the latest trends such as girly pink shorts, skinny jeans and baggy tops, Kristen plays it alot safer. She’s often snapped in her Converse trainers, casual skinny jeans and a grungy top and opts for minimal make-up.

As a result we’re a little bit on the fence as to who should win our fashion face-off so we’ve decided to open up the floor to you. View the gallery below and then vote to let us know who should win the Friday fashion award.

Fashion face-off: Samantha Cameron VS Carla-Bruni-Sarkozy

By Andrea Petrou on June 21st, 2010

It was a day of fashion rivalry last week when the French Prime Minister and his wife Carla-Bruni-Sarkozy met Samantha Cameron and her hubby David.

Both women surprisingly opted for shift dresses, Sam in a black and cream number, which was perfect for showing off her baby bump, and Carla in a grey structured frock with kitten heels.

However, that’s where the similarities ended. Carla, a one-time model and singer flirted with the cameras throughout the visit, while Samantha kept a dignified stance alongside her husband. And it’s also where the fashion similarities end too. While Carla is well known for her love of high-end designers like Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, Sam mixes High Street finds from Zara and Jigsaw with emerging British labels such as Erdem and Sykes.

But who looks better? We’ve put together a gallery of the two ladies for you to look at. Take a look and let us know who you think is the most stylish by voting below.

Friday Fashion Fracas: Lady Gaga VS Miley Cyrus

By Andrea Petrou on June 18th, 2010

Lady Gaga may currently be holding the crown for the most outrageously dressed singer but if rumours are to believed it’s hanging there by a thread.

According to various sources around the internet the starlet could soon be replaced by the once innocent Miley Cyrus who has shed her girl next door image for provocative clothing.

The 17 year old has been pictured in teeny tiny clothing, corsets and of course PVC, all of which Lady G has been pioneering for a good few years now. She’s also gone one step further than Miss G going pantless, trying to do lesbian kisses on stage (Lady Gaga successfully did this on her Telephone video) and being groped by her background male dancers at times.

And it also seems Kristen Stewart is becoming more of a fan. The Twilight actress said that although she listens to both Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus’s music on repeat it’s the latter that has struck a chord with her.

However, we’re not entirely convinced about this. Firstly Lady G is never off duty with her wacky outfits and unlike Miley, she would never be caught in skinny jeans. In fact Miley’s current stage style, even down to flashing her bottom are all Lady Gaga inspired. And she hasn’t showed us any individuality (we’re waiting for her to be pictured in a Lady G headpiece). So until we see something completely outrageous we’re still rooting for Miss G.

What do you think? Do you like Miley’s new style or has she still got a long way to go before she reaches the outrageous heights of Lady Gaga. View the gallery below and then vote and let us know.

World Cup fashion face-off: USA vs UK fashions

By Andrea Petrou on June 11th, 2010

Thumbnail image for Louis and Naomi.jpg

I don’t claim to be very much of a football fan, but in these times you can’t avoid it. It’s literally everywhere! Luckily, the World Cup has managed to find a way into my life in a perfectly acceptable way – in the way of fashion.

The fashion website very.co.uk are having a fashion face off for the World Cup games – putting together styles inspired by the World Cup countries and seeing who comes out as the most popular one. Up first is England vs USA with the British look embodying Kate Moss at Glastonbury with a summer parka, wellies, slouchy denim shorts and tees, and of course lots of lovely accessories including some fabulous retro sunglasses.

The USA look is inspired by the ‘preppy college girl’, which is actually quite nice too and has little touches like oversized check shirts, cut-off denim jeans and hoodies, as well as sports style inspired footwear like Converse.

In the style stakes though, I’ve stuck with supporting the home team! I think the British look is far better than the USA one but thinking about the upcoming countries that will be featured – Spain, Argentina and South Africa – I think we might have some trouble competing against flamenco inspired dresses and safari chic in the later rounds.

You can vote now at the very.co.uk site for your favourite countries’ style and you might even be inspired to try out a completely new look – far better than watching the football.

And look out next week for our World Cup inspired fashion galleries.

Friday Fashion Fracas: Lady Gaga VS Madonna

By Andrea Petrou on March 19th, 2010

It’s Friday! And not only does that mean the weekend, but also time for our Friday Fashion Fracas. We got a great response from last week’s Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston face off, with the majority of you voting for Jen’s style over Ange’s. But who will win this weeks Lady Gaga vs Madonna funky fashion fracas?

Yes, we know it may seem like an odd choice given Madge’s more sophisticated style nowadays. However she was a style icon in the 80s, and dare we say it, possibly the pioneer of raunch, leotards and leather.

So to get the fight going we’ll start with the 80s pop queen.

As we’ve already said, Madonna’s style now, does nothing to reflect her 80s outfits. Today she’ll be seen out in suits, leather jackets and jeans, which although are all lovely, aren’t very, well, exciting. However rewind 30 years and you’d hardly recognise the leather clad, skimpily dressed pop star.

Madge was one of the first to be risque with her stage and everyday outfits, and was rarely seen with more than a few clothes on. She introduced the Gaultier “conical cone” bra, which has slowly made its way back into our fashion radars as the underwear as outwear trend continues to go strong.

And although leotards are now more associated with Lady Gaga, Madge was wearing these, before the Queen of Quirkiness was even born, teaming them up with fishnets, studs and of course PVC. There have also been times in the past few years where Madge’s daring ulterior ego has come through. She wore a bright green headpiece with batwing skirt for an event in 2007, and her stage outfits are all still about bodysuits and stockings.

Worst outfit.

After a quiet couple of years, a newly-gothic Madonna decided to shock fans and the fashion police when she stepped out in a hideous yellow long satin frock in 1999 to help commemorate MTV‘s Top 100 Music videos.

What other’s say
“Club kid, raunchy sex flirt, geisha, school ma’am – what style hasn’t Madonna done? Always stylish, never boring, and above all, a true fashion feminist: Madonna, we salute you.” Handbag.com

Lady Gaga.

If we’re honest, we’re not actually sure where to begin here. Lady G is the epitome of 2000 outrageous fashion incorporating everything from PVC, leather studs and bralets into her “everyday style.” And she has a huge designer following with everyone from Armani, Viktor & Rolf and of course the late Alexander McQueen, queueing up to dress.

We’ve seen things we could never have even imagined from this singer, including coke cans in her hair for the Telephone video, a telephone on her head for her appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and lobsters, for, well, just a night out. We could go on all day listing these.

Miss G is also no stranger to leotards, bearing her body on and off stage very successfully. But are her outfits an “updated” wackier version of Madge’s style or is she unique in what she wears?

Worst outfit.
We’re a little bit torn between the white 3 tiered Armani Prive cape the star wore to the Grammies and the hideous gothic PVC frock she donned to perform at the 2009 Royal Variety show and to meet the Queen.

What others say

“We’re ignored this lady for as long as possible, not because she didn’t interest us or anything, but because we weren’t sure what to make of her individual style.
She’s quirky to say the least, after appearing in rubber outfits and origami style dresses quite recently and she also seems to have a fetish for wearing some outrageous false eyelashes too.” Female First.

Our verdict.
Both singers have revolutionised style to a great extent, but we think this Friday’s winner has got to be Madonna. The original style icon paved the way for unique and outrageous outfits venturing into territory others had only dreamed about.

Who do you think wins the fashion fracas? View the gallery below and then vote to let us know.
