Designer Pick of the Week: Burberry Patent Travel Slippers

By Andrea Thatcher on October 9th, 2008

Burberry patent travel slippers.jpg

It’s getting to be that time of year when bare feet won’t do for running around the house getting ready in the morning. If you’re the sort to go for luxury in all areas of your life, then these Burberry Patent Travel Slippers will solve that problem nicely.

At $250 they also happen to be one of our more affordable designer picks.

They come with a matching patent pouch which ups their cute factor in our book, and they look to have rubber bottoms so you could wear them out running errands.

Now is the time to buy them because Net-a-Porter is offering free shipping through October 20. Enter FREESHIP2 into the promotional box during checkout.

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on August 18th, 2008

Rebetto ballet flats.jpg Click image to enlarge.

Even the most dedicated high heel devotee knows it’s wise to always have a cute pair of flats on hand.

Well how about a cute pair that’s also a classic, a legend among flats? Like this Repetto ballet flat. Similar pairs would run you around $160 new and this seller says these originally cost $189. These are a size 38 and fit like a 7-1/2 to an 8.

The auction ends tomorrow, and the bidding is currently up to $10.50 so chances are you’ll get a deal.

Jimmy Choo Watson ballet flats – and a new flagship

By Andrea Thatcher on December 19th, 2007

Jimmy%20Choo%20flats.jpg

We love these Jimmy Choo Watson flats for their holiday flair and ability to live on in style throughout the year. The square toe is modern and not too angular, with dark faceted jewel accents. They almost look like rock ‘n’ roll studs. Plus, they’re only $340. That’s not bad at all for Choos. We wonder if anyone picked up a pair as a last minute Christmas present at the new Rodeo Drive flagship store that opened on Monday. West Coasters can look for more Choo stores through 2009 in locations like San Diego, Scottsdale, Las Vegas, and Seattle.

10 Outfits for 10 Occasions – Barbara’s fancy flats

By Andrea Thatcher on December 10th, 2007

Barbara%20-%20flats%20outfit.jpg

Reader Barbara wrote in to our 10 Outfits for 10 Occasions contest for advice to a common problem. She loves her strappy heels, especially when dressing up for New Year’s Eve, but feels uncomfortable when she’s taller than her boyfriend. Luckily there is no shortage of fancy flats out there this holiday season. So, while we concentrate on a Miu Miu pair as part of our outfit, we’ll also give you options at a few different price points. Barbara mentioned sequined cocktail dresses, so we chose this Stenay sequin dress from Nordstrom for $228 to start off this outfit.

Top Five: Shoes in the Net-a-Porter Sale

By Andrea Thatcher on November 28th, 2007

Top%205%20Shoes.jpg

Net-a-Porter has a sale going on with up to 60% off, which actually makes some of their designer duds affordable to those of us who can’t shop the runway. Plus, their new $12 ground shipping makes it easier, too. Whenever we hear of a Net-a-Porter sale, or pretty much any sale really, the first place we look is at the shoes. So here’s our top five picks from the sale.

Alexander%20McQueen%20pump.jpg

We’ve been known to already have the holiday music station playing in our car, so we’re irresistibly drawn to anything that plays into our festive mood like these cherry red Alexander McQueen round-toe pumps. A hidden platform and seam down the back give these an old Hollywood feel. The $540 shoes are on sale for $324.

Tory Burch wedges take over the flats department

By Andrea Thatcher on September 27th, 2007

sophie%20snake%20wedge.jpg
With the crazed rush for Tory Burch flats this summer, it’s nice to see a change of direction with the season’s lineup of high-heeled wedges. These Tory Burch ‘Sophie’ snakeskin wedges offer a similar style with rounded toes and wider fit, but plenty of leg-lengthening opportunities for those who don’t have the calves to look quite so glamorous touching the floor.

Newport News T-strap sandals on sale

By Andrea Thatcher on September 21st, 2007

newport%20news%20sandals.jpg
I originally saw these fabulous T-strap sandals featured in Lucky and I immediately needed to own them. The chic, barely-there sandals have an elasticized heel strap and almost completely flat bottom that makes them not only comfortable but also, quite the bargain at $10 (marked down from $15). I know it’s getting a little late in the season for sandals, but I promise you that these are well worth your $10 bill because these, my friend, will remain a staple in your summer wardrobe. Buy them now in either white, silver, gold or black patent leather because they’re actually back ordered and won’t even ship until November!

Bargain pick of the week

By Andrea Thatcher on September 20th, 2007

BP.%20%27Edie%27%20ballet%20flats.JPGI know I’m always looking for some good flats, especially for fall when chilly weather requires keeping those piggies covered. So, for this week’s bargain pick, I chose this red BP. ‘Edie’ patent-leather ballet flat, but since it’s only available in two sizes, 5.5 and 9, I’m also including this cute BP. ‘Edie’ calf hair dalmatian print flat (although I’m not sure how I feel about the whole calf hair bit)–both on sale for just $21.90 at Nordstrom.
