Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts is currently exhibiting a collection of shoes. Called “Walk This Way” and on view until 23 March 2008, footwear from ancient Egypt to modern day are placed throughout the museum to show their relationship to other artworks. According to the MFA, this method of showing the shoes creates “provocative juxtapositions,” which “provide insights into the history, ornamentation, and cultural importance of footwear.” Find out more about it at MFA.org

Designer Lela Rose’s shoe/handbag collection for Payless has launched and is available in stores and online now. Texas-bred Lela Rose graduated from Parsons in 1993. After graduation, Rose worked for Richard Tyler before starting her own line in 1996. Rose says of her work, “My philosophy of design is about creating beautiful, hand finished clothes that exude a casual luxury and refinement.” Rose’s clothing is sold at luxury retailers like Bergdorf Goodman, but you can find Rose-designed items at a much, much cheaper price at good ol’ Payless. Highlights of the line include a pair of Victorian-inspired ankle boots for US$40. Keep reading for another of our faves.

Pierre Hardy, a leading footwear designer who once designed for Christion Dior, Hermes and Balenciaga will be launching a men’s and women’s collection for Gap debuting in spring ’08. A smaller collection will be available first at Gap locations throughout Europe and England before a full collection hits US streets later in the year. In 1999, Hardy launched his own collection and can since be found available on retail shelves in over 20 different countries. Based on his most recent collection, it looks like Gap footwear just might be getting a bit more progressive.
