If you want a make up look that will really make you stand out this season then you’ll love the subtle grunge look. The trend was all over the AW 2011 catwalks championed by both Vivienne Westwood and Vera Wang and goes perfectly with the 80s clothing trends that are hot at the moment.
To get the look you’ll need to focus mainly on the eyes to get a smokey look. Keep the foundation to a minimum and add a touch of girly frosted pink lippy.
See the gallery below for a masterclass on how to get the look as well as what make up to buy.

Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2012
As we all know by now, Jason Wu’s runway show is always an absolute highlight for me when NYFW rolls around again. I love his cool, nonchalant approach to fashion, which is perfect for city-slickers and sleek fashion-lovers everywhere. Those people won’t be disappointed with his new Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
Like his previous collection, this collection featured heavily on contrasting shapes and silhouettes as the young designer paired form-fitting, almost Oriental structured blouses and shorts with billowing, slouchy coats for an edgy take on city dressing. Again, much like last season, Wu used the blouse as a staple in his work with an array of crisp white shirts with gem-encrusted collars. Workwear just got taken up a notch.
As for colour, the collection was a pretty myriad of soft peach-pinks with dark blue and grey prints which played off well against each other. I’ve got serious designer lust for his high-waisted, uber-sexy 50s style bikini in a dark grey and blue Eastern floral print – it manages to give a cheeky wink to pin-up girls of the past while still remaining a modern classic.
To see the highlights of Jason Wu’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, check out the gallery above.

Jason Wu Autumn/Winter 2011
And so the Fashion Week fun begins, girls and boys, as one of our favourite fashion months of the year starts off in New York today. I don’t know about you but I’ve been waiting for the NYFW mania to begin for a while now – and while I wait with baited breath to see what the USA’s finest will come up with this season, I’m taking a look at one of the Big Apple’s best designers: Jason Wu.
Wu, who has a large celebrity following including Michelle Obama and Diane Kruger, is one of my favourite Manhattan-based designers because he simply knows how to make a girl look good. His collections may not have the over-the-top couture drama of iconic designers such as Dior and Gaultier, but they are something far more important – truly stylish, wearable designs for real women. When I imagine who Wu, in his mind, designs for it is not a madcap Isabella Blow character but the average fashion-savvy woman on the street.
His last two collections or so are particularly special to me because to me, they show that Wu has really hit his stride now as a designer and found a trademark in elegant tailoring and cocktail dresses. My dream Jason Wu piece? The slate-grey men’s coat from his Autumn/Winter 2011 collection (pictured above in the gallery) with the black lace sleeve details. Such a modern take on masculine fashion.
Take a look at my favourite Jason Wu moments in the gallery above – and keep checking back on the site for NYFW updates.

Burberry Prorsum
A double-breasted trench coat in a caper green that hits the spot.
Even though it’s only the end of August, it’s getting colder in the UK and all of my lazy-student instincts are telling me to go and get under the covers and sleep until winter is over.
I have to say, I hate the cold weather, with a passion – I am definitely a summer girl. So one of my little pick-me-ups when summer is over is to start planning new, fashionable ways to wrap up warm, and nothing can update or transform an outfit like a pair of great fashion tights or socks.
Marc Jacobs used a lot of polka dot hosiery in his Autumn/Winter collection, something that the high street has picked up on and copied. For a girlish Minnie Mouse look, team a pastel-coloured midi skirt with Asos’ nude polka-dotted ankle socks with a pair of high heels in the milder months – when it gets colder, go for a pair of polka-dot tights instead.
Another sexy hosiery trend is the sex-siren look that we saw on the fetish-inspired catwalk of Louis Vuitton, where it was all about peekaboo black underwear with tight corsetry, fur and terrifying heels. Asos have an amazing pair of 40s-style seamed stocking with tiny sparkle details on them for a pin-up feel. Just wear them with a leather skirt and a prim blouse and you’ve got a sizzling hot fashion look to go.
Or if you just want to keep your tootsies warm during the evenings, try a cute pair of statement socks – we absolutely adore Urban Outfitter’s lace mohair ankle socks, which are just so pretty and feminine.
Check out the gallery above to see our favourite tights and socks for this Autumn.

Bow Pleated Soft Shift Dress
This dress is so Marc Jacobs it's untrue - the ultimate first-date dress. With a chunky cardigan and a pair of vintage ankle boots, you're good to go. Find it here.
I absolutely love putting together Shiny’s fashion hot-list for the week, because for me it is basically an excuse to go window-shopping and compile a mental list of all the things that I want, nay, need the most. This week the hot-list is a merry mash of different prints, textures and styles – but did you expect any different from me?
I’m in a bit of a “back to school” mode this week which is looking towards Autumn and the weather getting colder, so I’m daydreaming about new tights, new knitwear and new bags to put all off my books in. I was especially taken with Oasis’ dreamily soft-looking pale pink tea dress with a sparkled collar detail, which is so like the Marc Jacobs design that it’s untrue. That dress is going on my list, along with a chunky cardigan and some cute ankle boots to go along with it.
My ultimate buy for the week? It has to be the Sam Edelman slipper shoes from Urban Outfitters. Slipper-style loafer shoes are massive this Autumn because they spell luxury and comfort, and you can’t get any more luxurious than this designer pair, which is covered in black gemstones and studs. So delightfully rock and roll.
Check out the gallery above for our top buys for the week.

Rihanna showed off her shaggy new 70s brunette 'do with a sexy waist-tied deniim shirt and leather hot-pants
Was I the only person in the world to have not gone to V Festival this weekend? It’s certainly been the only thing anyone on my Facebook has been writing about anyway.
It looks like the line-up this year was absolutely amazing for pop-lovers, with the likes of Rihanna at the top of the billing. Ri-Ri herself was every bit the Bajan vision she normally is in a sexy tie-waist denim shirt and a pair of figure-hugging leather shorts. We couldn’t help noticing that her scarlet hair is gone all of a sudden in exchange for a shaggy, honey-brunette ‘do, which looks great but we’re unsure as to which we prefer..
Jessie J looked radiant and excited to be performing despite her broken leg in a mental Lets Get Physical style panelled bodysuit, with long lilac fringing trailing along the sleeves to compliment her new purple hair. Jessie wasn’t the only one to rock fringed outfits for the festival either, as Katy B performed in a cool black shredded jacket and Noisettes singer Shingai Shoniwa wore a scarlet bodysuit with fringed details..
The festival’s biggest fashion surprise, however, was N-Dubz’ Tulisa in a Jeremy Scott-style one-shouldered dress in a bold animal print. Long gone are the days of baby pink trackies onstage for our new favourite X Factor judge – Tulisa clearly knows that now is the time to have a little bit more fun with her look. Yabbadabbadoo!
To see photos of the performers we’ve mentioned plus many more, check out the gallery above.

Diane Von Fustenberg Autumn/Winter 2011
Colour is always a daunting aspect of fashion for me – as an ex-goth I still find myself dressing head to toe in black out of comfort, too scared to try anything more adventurous. But this season I think I might be able to get on board with colour. In the spring, thanks to Jil Sander it was all about eye-watering bright, almost fluorescent colour – no thanks, not for me – but this season all the designers are working with rich, sultry jewel colours of emerald, blue, turquoise, purple and ruby red. Mmm. There’s just enough dark glamour in this trend to give me the confidence to try it out..
This is one of the biggest trends this season, as opulent jewel colours were literally everywhere. Diane Von Fustenberg, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Pucci.. all the big names’ collections were showcasing these colours. I’m particularly interested in how DVF presented the trend – the models wore contrasting jewel tones of green and blue head to toe for a dramatic, glamorous and vintage look.
There is quite a retro feel about these colours, whether you want to be a 70s siren or a 1940s beauty. A good way to work the trend is a deep, bold pair of wide-legged trousers in dark red or green – team with a slippery silk shirt and red lipstick and you’ve got yourself one strong look already.
The high street is totally behind the jewel trend already – hooray! Check out the gallery above to see our favourite pieces.

Christian Dior Couture Autumn/Winter 2006
Last week we wrote up John Galliano’s A/W 2011 catwalk show, which was shown amidst a flurry of outrage about the unforgivable anti-semitic remarks the designer was caught on camera making in a cafe in Paris. Since his drunken outburst, he has rightfully been dropped as creative director for iconic French fashion house Christian Dior, and rumours are waiting to be confirmed that designer Ricardo Tisci has been appointed to step into his shoes.
Shiny Style will never defend the recent actions of John Galliano and wholeheartedly agree with his dismissal. However, he has been one of fashion’s brightest talents for the past two decades, and has been unrivalled as a couturier. His lusciously ornate and avant-garde designs have always embodied the luxurious spirit of Christian Dior, a classic label, while always developing and looking forward to new trends. That’s why we’re so sad that he’s single-handedly destroyed his career in the manner that he has, and let so many of his supporters down.
So here’s one final gallery for Galliano; one of fashion’s most important designers, whose work at Dior has been an absolutely magical period for couture and ready-to-wear. Check out our gallery of our favourite designs from the past ten years, and leave your thoughts about Galliano and his work below.

Happy Birthday to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, highest-paid model in the world, who’s turning 30 today.
Gisele was discovered at the age of 15 buying a Big Mac by a model scout (maybe I should hang around fast-food joints and kebab shops more), and the rest, as we say, is history. She moved to San Paulo to take part in the Elite Look Modelling Competition, her career skyrocketed, and has since modelled for all of the most prestigious fashion houses such as Versace, Valentino, Ralph Lauren and Chloe. She’s also one of the most famous faces to have modelled for lingerie line Victoria’s Secret, whose campaigns and runways have boasted such iconic figures as Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks.
She’s been far from just a pretty face for the last fifteen years and has been actively helping out with charity-related events such as the I Am African campaign, which set out to highlight the public’s ignorance of HIV and AIDS sufferers in Africa. She also participated in a celebrity-fronted fundraiser to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and regularly promotes the protection of the Brazilian rainforest. So basically, she’s an all-round good egg.
Not only that, but she’s the founder of Ipanema Footwear, manufacturer of the most popular Brazilian flip-flops in the world. So you’d think that after all the hard work she’s been putting in, she’d look tired and haggard (we wish). But no, she still looks like a supermodel – happy 3-0, Gisele. Look at the gallery below for some of Gisele’s best looks.

Yesterday I reminisced about the good old 80s and how I missed out on all the fashions first time around. And it’s not just me that’s fallen for this year’s 80s styling.
Gwen Stefani has also become a victim, presenting a LAMB collection that included off-the-shoulder “Flashdance” tops and acid-wash jeans.
However, although she can get away with dressing as funky as she likes, we’re not sure your boss would be pleased to see you turn up to work like this.
We have a look at some wearable 80s fashions that will keep you going throughout the winter during work and play.

Diane Von Furstenberg’s flower children have definitely grown up for Fall 2009. Picking rich, sumptuous fabrics, glam prints and beautiful brocades, the collection was a touch of subtle glamour for a season that’s driven mainly by the recession. Huge cocoon coats and slouchy draped cardigans concealed layered looks in clashing prints like leopard, Prince of Wales check and geometric swirls. The usual wrap dresses, chic knits and wearable shaped were teamed with leggings, huge pom-pom hats and chunky jewellery for a youthful edge. By night, it got more glam with bacofoil dresses, animal print sheaths and sequin shifts. [all images courtesy of Coutorture.com]

The revived Halston label is enjoying nothing but infamy at the moment. With the likes of Harvey Weinstein, Rachel Zoe and Tamara Mellon turning the cogs in the background, you’d expect the label to be delivering something very special. But following the departure of designer Marco Zanini (and the fact Zoe doesn’t seem to care any more) the future seems uncertain despite the fact previous collections sold well. This Fashion Week, instead of a traditional runway show, models lounged around in pieces that harked back to the Halston heydays of the 1970s. The flowing maxi dresses were definitely pretty, but I can’t help thinking there was nothing that couldn’t be found in vintage shops for a lot less money…CLICK THE IMAGE TO VIEW THE GALLERY and decide for yourself.
