Giles Deacon wants to dress One Day actress Anne Hathaway and Hollywood icon Lauren Bacall

By Andrea Petrou on October 12th, 2011

Giles Deacon would love to dress Anne Hathaway.

The British designer – who has previously worked with Kelly Brook and Victoria Beckham in the past – is keen to work with the One Day beauty because he likes her look.

He said: “We’ve never dressed Anne Hathaway. She has an amazing presence and I think she’s a pretty good actress.

Anne is not the only star the 41-year-old sartorialist is particularly keen to work with, with Lauren Bacall named as his all-time style icon.

He said: “Lauren Bacall would be really interesting to dress. She’s a Hollywood legend and was married to Humphrey Bogart, so you wouldn’t mess with her. She’d let you know very clearly what she has after and you’d willingly do it.”

Discussing his own style, Giles admits he loves to splash out on designer suits.

He added to Now magazine: “I’m terrible at buying things for myself. As you can tell, I dress a bit like a tramp!I really like Yves Saint Laurent men’s suits and Tom Ford suits and ties. I’d really love a Tom Ford dressing gown. That’d be worth maxing out my credit card.”

Giles Deacon is a fan of statement jewellery

By Andrea Petrou on April 4th, 2011

Giles Deacon is a fan of statement jewellery.

The fashion designer – who, along with London jewellery star Hannah Martin, led a judging panel to find the winner of the Central Saint Martins Palladium Jewellery Design earlier this week – says he likes pieces that stand out and can transform an outfit as well being something most people could wear.

Speaking about why he crowned Leigh Cameron as the overall winner for his stunning ring – which was made from the rare and precious metal palladium – Giles said: “I did make my final decision very quickly, actually. It was very much an initiative thing with me. It was something that was very kind of quality instant, very, very strong. I like statement jewellery and something that many people could wear and you don’t need a manual to understand and I think the one I chose did that.”

Giles said he was hugely impressed with the competition – a collaboration between Palladium Alliance International and Masters Design students specialising in Jewellery Ceramics and Furniture at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design – and the work everyone produced.

He said: “The work that has been presented by Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design MA Design and Jewellery students using palladium is as I would have hoped , inventive, beautiful and directional.”

Giles Deacon judges Jewellery design comp

By Andrea Petrou on March 31st, 2011

Giles Deacon led a judging panel to find the winner of the Central Saint Martins Palladium Jewellery Design competition last night (30.03.11).

The renowned fashion designer was joined on the panel by London jewellery star Hannah Martin and after looking at the bespoke work of the five finalists, they crowned Leigh Cameron as the overall winner in a glamorous ceremony at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts.

The stunning winning ring, made from the rare and precious metal palladium, was inspired by large architectural shapes and the talented student said: “It has been an amazing experience, I never thought that I would win and as I am studying furniture, designing jewellery is a whole new experience for me. Working with Palladium has been fantastic and I look forward to working with it again in the future.”

Part of the Platinum family, Palladium is naturally white and light making it an ideal contemporary choice for jewellery.

Guests at the party included model Jade Parfitt, actor Mathew Horne and Kelly Osbourne’s ex, Luke Worrall.

Giles Deacon is confirmed as the creative director of Ungaro

By Andrea Petrou on May 25th, 2010

It’s hello Giles Deacon and “Lindsay Lohan who?” in the word of Emanuel Ungaro.

The brand has today confirmed that the designer has become its new creative director.

Ungaro hasn’t been generating the best press over the past months. The fashion house suffered a fashion media backlash after Lindsay Lohan, the labels artistic adviser and head designer Estrella Archs were criticised for their poor fashion designs at Fashion Week last year. They have consequently left their roles.

But will Giles do any better when he reveals his first collection for the brand this October? Judging by his passion we think he might.

The designer told WWD: “I’m totally aware and respectful of the pressure but at the same time, I’ve run my own business for eight years and worked in lots of places.

“I think as soon as you start worrying and thinking about that too much, you’re not concentrating on doing good work, which is the most important thing.”

We can’t wait to see the collection.

Giles Deacon designs jewellery for H.Samuel

By Andrea Petrou on November 30th, 2009

explosion.jpgWe’ve always been fans of Giles Deacon.

He’s designed some stunning dresses for celebs including Cheryl Cole, given us a great deal of shopping satisfaction with his range for New Look and designs good enough to eat thanks to his collaboration with Cadbury.

However, we’re not sure whether we’re too pleased about his latest partnership with H.Samuel, after all, it’s not really a name you’d associate with such great designs.

Yes we may be being slightly snobbish, and, we know some of you will say New Look can be classed in the same category as the high street jeweller, but we just can’t help thinking this partnership is more Katie and Peter than Heidi and Seal.

If you however, disagree then Giles for Evoke includes crystal encrusted cluster style designs from chav bling pendants to costume style rings and earrings (pictured). Prices range from £30 to £70. Let us know what you think of the designs.

X-Factor get the look: Cheryl Cole’s pink Giles Deacon dress

By Andrea Petrou on November 23rd, 2009

We’ve been keeping an eye on Cheryl’s X-Factor look for a while now and we’re sure you’ll agree she’s doing very well at keeping her reputation as a style icon.

She looked stunning in her custom made Giles Deacon pink bodycon dress, which fitted into the WHAM! theme night perfectly and would look great as a Christmas outfit.

She also bought home the Minnie Mouse bow look, sported by many a celeb back in the 80s.

If you want some more of these style ideas then check out our Minnie Mouse inspired looks gallery here.

In the meantime we’ve put together a range of pink dresses similar to Cheryl’s.
