Kate Winslet says glamour is all about being “understated”.
The Oscar-winning actress says it’s important not to go over-the-top when getting ready to go out as less is nearly always more.
She said: “Glamour to me is about remaining graceful and understated. For example, with very bold lip colours, you can’t overdo the rest of your face. With a bright-red party lipstick, just go with lots of mascara and keep everything else clean. I love Lancome’s L’Absolu Rouge lipstick as it lasts. Unless you spend the whole night snogging, you won’t need to reapply.”
Kate also says she mixes two foundations together when preparing her face base.
She told InStyle magazine: “I rarely rely on one foundation – mixing two colours can make a big difference. I never use too much powder, only in the right areas (such as the T-zone). I have peachy fuzz on my cheeks, so I have to be careful with powder. I add a little of Lancome’s Golden Hat Blush Palette on my cheeks – it just brightens up everything.”

The legendary fashion designer Roberto Cavalli is turning his magic hands from fashion to the home, as he’s creating a collection of furniture, wallpaper, flooring and home textiles in his iconic animal prints that he’s so well known for. I can’t actually imagine anything more wonderful, trashy and glam than Cavalli home decor – can you?
Roberto, who is famous for his glamorous and sexy European designs, said about his new homewares project: “The home and the objects that surround us reflect our lifestyle. The fantasy, memories of a trip.we are always looking for new inspirations to have objects and atmospheres around us where we feel at ease. [This collection stems from] my personal wish to share with those who love me the joy of living my fashion, my creativity, my philosophy and my style also in the world of home decorating.”
The homewares are going to be sold worldwide, with distribution in Europe, the United States and Asia. I don’t think I’ll be able to resist leopardprint towels and wallpaper for long – it’s only a matter of time til I get bitten by the Cavalli fashion bug..

Cheryl Cole has made her first dainty steps into the world of fashion design, as she’s just designed her first ever shoe collection.
Cheryl, everyone’s favourite Geordie lass, is collaborating with the fashion site StylistPick.com to create her new line of limited edition shoes – and it’ll go on sale in December. We’re usually sceptical about celebrities attempting fashion design but we might leave a space on our Christmas lists, just in case..
StylistPick’s creative officer Juliet Warkentin said: “We are thrilled to be working with Cheryl. Cheryl is the style icon and is amazingly warm, a quality that has made her the nation’s favourite. We believe that the launch will have a huge fashion impact; establishing fashion’s greatest influencer as a major force in fashion design and further democratising fashion.”
Lovely little Cheryl has remembered that her fans aren’t as rich as she is and made the collection affordable as well as glam, having overseen the entire design process herself “from concept to design and packaging”.
Girls, it’s time to start learning how to totter in our heels like Cheryl. ARE YOU READY?

Elegant at the opening of a flagship Longchamp store in Hong Kong wearing a gorgeous high-necked oriental minidress
Unless you’ve been living under a rock then you’ll know that supermodel Kate Moss is due to marry her rockstar boyfriend, Jamie Hince, on the 1st of July, in one of the biggest parties that the Cotswolds will probably ever see.
With a star-studded guestlist and legendary photographer Mario Testino taking the photographs, we can’t think of many parties more glamorous. Unfortunately ShinyStyle weren’t invited – god, Kate – so we’ll have to wistfully write about the big day from afar.
Kate’s long been one of the UK’s best-dressed women, pioneering pretty much every trend since forever and bringing in the bacon with her much-desired Topshop and Longchamp collections. So naturally everyone wants to know what she’ll be wearing on the big day – whatever it’ll be will be gorgeous and rock and roll, we know that for sure.
We love Mossy and couldn’t be happier that she’s finally settling down with her beau Jamie Hince. In celebration of the supermodel and her long reign as queen of British fashion, we’re looking over our favourite model’s best, snazziest and glammest outfits over the years. Yes, there may be an awful lot of black in this gallery (she seems to be a bit allergic to colour) but no one wears tuxedo jackets or LBDs like Kate. Check out our favourite glam Kate Moss outfits in the gallery above.

Kate Moss is the ultimate festival style icon, according to Alice Temperley.
The British designer – who dressed Pippa Middleton for the royal wedding reception – believes the 37-year-old model always gets her music festival look right and maintains it is simple to achieve.
She told Vogue.co.uk: “Take really comfortable loose pieces that look effortless to wear. Converse are the perfect shoes, unless you need wellies, as they helps protect your feet if you tread on anything horrid – not too hot not too cold.
“A pair of sunglasses are a must and a good satchel or pouch bag that you can wear across your body with the few essentials – the smaller the better. Loose layers and a piece of cashmere so you don’t get caught short when the sun goes behind a cloud.”
Alice recently revealed how happy she was to work with Pippa on her dress for the wedding reception of Pippa’s sister Duchess Catherine and her husband Prince William.
She said: “I was delighted that Ms. Pippa Middleton asked us to design her dress for the royal wedding evening reception. Pippa is a beautiful young woman and a pleasure to work with. She looked incredible and the green looks great on her skin tone.”

Nicole sporting a classic Diane Von Fustenberg turban in March for a UK telly appearance
Vintage glamour has been on our mind ever since ex-Pussycat Doll and femme fatale Nicole Sherzinger was spotted in March wearing a pale mustard-coloured turban (pictured above) for an appearance on Loose Women. It was a brave fashion choice for the singer, who normally sticks with her fail-safe ultra-sexy Herve Leger dresses and heels, but we think it paid off. With a face as smoking hot and sultry and Nicole’s, she looked more glamorous than ever.
Other stars have showed their love for the turban-wrap accessory as well recently; the Olsen twins have been spotted teaming silk black ones with tough leather, flowing black chiffon and lace for a dramatic evening look that has ensured their positions at the top of the fashion-pack further. And well, if the Olsen babes are doing it then we want to as well. Lover of all things vintage Paloma Faith also has a fondness for her silk head-wraps, going all-out with scarlet ones to set off her stage ensembles of leopard-printed wiggle dresses and flame-coloured lipsticks.
If you want to get in on this sumptuous 1930s-inspired fashion action, we’ve got a gallery above for you with our favourite ones available online (including an actual Diane Von Fustenberg turban which will only set you back forty pounds and is an absolute classic – that lady is so good to us!). Check it out above.

Floral Cat's Eye Sunglasses
Full-on glamour is the trend rocking the catwalks at the moment - we love how this Asos pair has a modern twist to a classic shape. Buy them, love them, wear them with everything.
Glory be, how great is this Mediterranean weather? I actually got a little bit sunburnt yesterday when I spent a long day on the grass with friends (I was supposed to be doing university work, but who can work in weather like this? We have to take advantage when it might be snowing or something next week.) And so, to thank this weather that’s winging it’s way over from Spain, apparently – thanks, Spain – we’re looking at one of summer’s most important fashion item, sunglasses.
Luckily for you readers there’s an absolute abundance of cool eyewear on the market at the moment, thanks to the inspirational catwalks of designers such as Henry Holland, Jil Sander and Prada, where eye-popping colour, futuristic shapes and glamourpuss styles were key. Our absolute favourite style of sunnies this season is the 50′s cat’s-eye sunnies, which have made a huge comeback, and will add a touch of glamour to any outfit this summer.
To see our favourite sunnies around at the moment, check out our gallery.

It’s not exactly a secret that Jean-Paul Gaultier is a bit of a maverick in the world of fashion design, but I don’t think anyone was quite expecting the couture collection that he showed in Paris today. Amidst a flurry of chiffon, draping, nudes and pom-pom ruffles, Gaultier showed a collection that was one part silent movie actress, two parts bondaged punk from the King’s Road, circa 1979. And let’s just say this – Vivienne Westwood may have invented punk, but we think Gaultier might have just re-invented it.
No model was without a mohawk today on the runway – something that probably should have looked cheesy and cliché, but instead worked brilliantly contrasted against rolled fringes and clipped retro waves to make a new style that was completely modern and pure Gaultier down to the core. He applied the same prim-meets-rebellious approach to his collection, which was an unbelievable mashup of old-school dark glamour and mean, snarling attitude. A sleek white trouser-suit was teamed with a spiked leather handbag shaped like a landmine. A sheer, distressed black sweater was worn with a timeless fringed skirt. Classic 1950s silhouettes were worn with (what looked like) the same kind of bejwelled stripper heels that we see Taylor Momsen stomping about in every day. On paper it shouldn’t have worked, but on the catwalk it was poetry.
As usual at one of Gaultier’s shows, there was more than a hint of the dominatrix in the collection as dresses came down the catwalk in rubbers, leathers and lacey fabrics. He’s a sucker for a vamp – that’s what we love about the guy. However, in addition to the usual gothic fare today there were some surprisingly cheery prints that were like sexy beams of sunshine amongst all the dark reds and black. ShinyStyle’s surprise favourite? The rainbow-coloured tuxedo, which had so much potential to be a horror but instead stuck two fingers up to everyone and radiated attitude.
And so, ShinyStyle gives Jean-Paul a special Shiny fashion salute. Today he brought true spirit and creativity to the runways of Paris.

The model looked stunning last month at a gala in NYC, wearing a sequined maxi dress, headband and sultry velvet blazer. We love.
With all the upcoming parties and events that get rammed into your diary during winter, everyone has been very preoccupied what they’re going to be wearing this December. And we’ve found the one woman we should all be trying to emulate at this year’s office party – Victoria’s Secret model Chanel Iman.
Obviously, she’s stunning and all that – her mix of African and Korean roots have blessed her facially – but more importantly, she has got the party look nailed and is a walking advert for the motto that sometimes more is more. Feathers, fur, sequins, metallics and glitter; ’tis the season to pile it all on with a shovel, and have another drink.
We particularly loved the outfit that she wore to a gala in NYC last month, oozing vampy Hollywood glamour in a deep-blue velvet blazer, teamed with a sparkling headband and sequined maxi skirt. This is the way to carry the maxi-length from summer into winter.
To see some of our favourites of the supermodel’s best looks, and where you can get similar pieces online, check out the gallery above.

A clear highlight of this past weekend’s X Factor wasn’t Treyc’s depressing rendition of “Whole Lotta Love” or Katie Waissel’s hammy performance of that song from the jungle book, but Liverpudlian Rebecca’s jaw-dropping performance of “Why Don’t You Do Right”, the song made famous by busty cartoon Jessica Rabbit. Yes, you might be baffled that I’m telling you to start dressing like a cartoon character, but your boyfriend will thank me.
Rebecca herself showed everyone watching at home that Jessica’s look is still a classic and sexy one, as she wiggled onstage in a red dramatic sweep of 1940s film noir hair, ruby-red lips and a shockingly bright taffeta dress that had hella emphasis on the hips. See, you don’t have be drawn by a pencil to pull it off.
Obviously this is more of an evening, formal look than something to wear down to the post office – unless you’re trying to make the old guy who sells stamps fall in love with you – so save it for winter parties and swanky nights out. For a daytime adaptation of the look, leave the red maxi at home and add a few glamorous details to your outfit; a pair of red heels, a pin-up hairdo and a pair of cats’-eye sunglasses are an easy way to put of a Jessica wiggle in your step.
Or, failing that, just buy everything in the gallery above and be Jessica Rabbit for Halloween. You’ll look better (and sexier) that all of the naughty nurses/maids/vampires that are out flashing their knickers on October 31st.

We’ve been having a moan about skinny models for a very long time now. This was briefly broken when a few months ago after Glamour featured photo of plus model Lizzie Miller on its front cover, and when Mark Fast caused controversy when he sent plus-size models down his spring catwalk in September, but as far as we were concerned nothing else seemed to change. Until now that is.
V magazine has decided to bump up the debate by dedicating a whole issue to larger models. The glossy, which has previously featured Alexa Chung has decided to fly the flag for normal looking girls and features Crystal Renn, Kate Dillon, Mia Tyler, Whitney Thompson and Hayley Morley in designer clothes.
Stephan Gan, editor of V magazine said: “Big, little, pint-size, plus-size – everybody is beautiful. And this issue is out to prove it.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves Stephan.
