Kim Kardashian says her new perfume reminds her of her childhood.

By Andrea Petrou on May 18th, 2011

Kim Kardashian says her new perfume reminds her of her childhood.

The reality TV star recently launched her latest scent, Gold, and when she was developing it, she decided to take a trip down memory lane.

She told people.com: “When my dad would go away on trips he always came back with a special perfume for me. I hated when he bought perfume for his girlfriends, but loved it when he bought me a glamorous bottle of his favourite scent of gardenia. So when I was developing Gold, I thought of him and other happy times in my childhood.”

Kim also wanted a summer feel to the perfume but admits she found it quite a stressful process getting the right scent and the right look for the bottle.

She said: “To me, summer is sexy, beachy and glamorous with thoughts turning to romantic evenings. I wanted something powerful yet not too sweet. I got stressed out while developing the scent because I wanted it to be just perfect.

“I am very hands on with my fragrances. I really didn’t want a square bottle of any type. I am curvy and think my fragrance should represent me. So I picked a sleek round vessel in gold with ebony accents.”

However, Kim is very pleased with the results and wears it every day.

She said: “I spray myself before I go out,” she said. “The fragrance makes me feel sexy.”

The fragrance combines sparkling top notes of Italian bergamot and grapefruit with a sniff of spicy pink peppercorn, plus a floral heart of jasmine, delicate rose and golden resins of amber and creamy benzoin.

Pile on the charms: this season’s best necklaces

By laurenbravo on March 26th, 2010

Jewellery is one of the easiest and (sometimes) cheapest ways to give your look a new-season style overhaul.

Last year was all about the huge statement pieces (knuckle duster, anyone?) but this spring, jewellery, like knitwear, should be delicate on their own or layered up to knock-out effect. Mix silver and gold, jewels and pendants, and kitschy costume pieces with your grandmother’s pearls for your own take on eclectic neckwear.

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland has also had a huge impact on accessories, with teapots, top hats and pocket watches cropping up in designs by Stella McCartney and Tom Binns.

To start you off, here’s a gallery of the cutest pendants we’ve found. Marilyn may have sung about diamonds, but take a look at these and we think you’ll agree that a girl’s best friend can be a bicycle… or a birdhouse… or a boat.

ShinyStyle watch: Alexander McQueen’s final collection

By Andrea Petrou on March 11th, 2010

It was the collection we were all waiting for; the late Alexander McQueen‘s final range during Paris Fashion Week. Unfortunately we couldn’t be there, but we’ve heard and read that it was an emotional, yet beautiful display.

The sixteen outfits shown were 80% finished by the time of McQueen’s death last month and the final touches were administered by Sarah Burton, who worked alongside McQueen for sixteen years.

They were themed around a medieval idea with angels and demons as well as images and influences from Renaissance and Byzantine art.

There were brocades, billowing capes, ornate gold leaves. We’ve found a slide show of some of the designs, which we hope will give his last collection the justice it deserves.

Maybe you’re just not a pearl girl. Even though you inherited your great-grandma’s, you still feel a bit too “first lady” when they’re around your neck. So, instead of traditional pearls, switch things up with this gold sprinkled pearl choker from LRS Design for $285. It’s sure to keep things a bit more contemporary! Great when paired with jeans and a drop-neck tee, it also perfectly complements an elegant evening at the theater or wedding. The entire LRS collection features a fun variety of necklaces, earrings and bracelets made with gems, pearls and precious metals.

MoMa gold forget-me-knot ring

By Andrea Thatcher on August 30th, 2007

I love the MoMA store. This gold forget-me-knot ring, handmade by Brooklyn-based designer, Kiel Mead, is cast from an actual tied piece of string. Also available in sterling silver, the shiny adornment really does help me remember things.
