Yesterday marked the grand opening of H&M’s newest Manhattan location at the corner of 42nd St. and 5th Avenue. Complete with a red carpet and velvet ropes around the block, the store was packed with eager shoppers. H&M’s fall collection included lots of grays (it is the new black, you know…), but plenty of color too, chic cropped jackets, and tons of sparkle and shine–from scarves and hats to purses to leggings and dresses. Two-stories of fabulous fashion goodness and I couldn’t resist getting in on the action. Go to the jump to see some of my essential fall picks.
The sweater dress is a great transitional piece moving from fall into winter. Paired with opaque tights and heels, the look can be described best as sexy-warm. Body-hugging while still being covered up, the sweater dress is good for work or a night out. Black used to be the end all be all, but now it’s let a bit of gray sneak by! Everywhere I turn from knit sweaters to coats to evening dresses, racks are being bombarded with gorgeous grays. Top designers Michael Kors, Carolina Herrara, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein and Nicole Miller are all showing gray in their Fall 2007 collections. So if you want to give your black clothes a break, go get some gray. Depending on your budget, here are two great pieces to start with: a metallic sweater top for $19.80 at Forever 21 (left) and this cable-front tunic from Barneys for $695 (right). Clearly you will have no problem finding something when things just aren’t lookin’ so black and white!
I am a huge boot fan, so whenever the weather starts to cool off, I try to pick up a few new pairs. Not only are boots are great way to turn an average outfit into a complete look, they’re also more comfortable than pumps and the knee-high ones are great for covering up your legs, whether you’re too lazy to shave or they’re just your least favorite body part. For knee-high boots, try a pair of gray Melinda boots (left), only $80 at Bakersshoes.com. Gray is super in this season, so match them with a gray chunky knit sweater or scarf. For a more dressed up look, go with this pair of Michela boots (right) from Aldo for $180. The shiny silver zipper reminds me of the exposed zipper dress seen on Chloe’s fall runway
