It’s been a month of parties and events for both Hollywood and British A-listers. In the space of 5 weeks we’ve had the Soap Awards, Louis Vuitton‘s Maison store opening, Cannes and now the National Movie Awards, which were held yesterday at the Royal Festival Hall.
Diane Kruger turned up at the event, which gave audiences sneak previews of up coming films such as SATC2 and Toy Story 3, and presented an award in a gorgeous olive green taffeta short dress, which she accessories with skyscraper shoes and bold jewellery.
Kylie Minogue went for a knee length multicoloured asymmetric dress while Gwyneth Paltrow played it girly in a cute pink layered dress complete with matching pink shoes.
However our best dressed of the night has got to go to Emma Watson. The star who turned up to collect an award for Harry Potter and Half Blood Prince went for what we can only describe as a designer cheerleaders outfit complete with sparkles. It shouldn’t work, but let’s face it, Emma could wear a plastic bag and still look great.

Gwyneth Paltrow is certainly a busy bee. Shown yesterday at the premiere of her PBS documentary with Mario Batali “Spain: On the Road Again,” Paltrow also has a new Web site floating around – GOOP by Gwyneth Paltrow.
The site has several sections which right now all link to an essay by Paltrow: Make, Go, Get, Do, Be, See. You can sign up for the GOOP newsletter here. We’re definitely interested in hearing about Gwyneth’s fashion finds.
For a preview of the documentary, which features Gwyneth before the haircut, keep reading.

Looks like Gwynnie has been sticking to her all black, short skirt, high heel uniform while in the Hamptons recently.
She wore a black dress and short embellished jacket to the Benefit for Hamptons Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue on Saturday.
Paltrow was a co-host along with Steven Klein and Madonna – who was not in attendence to the disappointment of many. After the benefit, Gwyneth headed to L.A. Reid’s Sagaponack pad for an afterparty.

Mario Testino’s three-week diary for The Independent has revealed that yes, those photos of him and Keira Knightley taking happy snaps in Berlin, will form the September ’08 cover of Vogue US.

Now that we know this, we can’t help but wonder whether the pressure is now on Testino and co. to get this next cover right after it was reported that Vogue’s April and May issues suffered poor sales. Just 350,000 copies were sold of that controversial April issue featuring Gisele Bundchen and NBA star LeBron James, a la King-Kong style, making it the worst selling April issue since 2001.

Hot off the catwalk from the Chanel cruise S/S ’09 show in Miami last Thursday was Gwyneth Paltrow’s Cannes red carpet dress.
The actress, who is currently featured in a spectacular fashion shoot for V magazine, was joined by Valentino at the première of Two Lovers yesterday.
The mother-of-two has been ripping up the celeb circuit lately in her designer duds, and continued to turn heads in this navy and black satin number with plunging bow neckline. I wonder what Valentino really thought of Gwynnie’s Chanel dress…

It looks like women just didn’t realize sky-high heels existed before Gwyneth Paltrow waltzed onto the scene promoting Iron Man in a slew of stilettos.
Sales of super high heels (generally anything five inches and over) have increased 35 percent since Paltrow’s press tour.
U.K. retailers like Selfridges and Harvey Nichols are seeing sales of stilettos outnumbering flats five to one.
After all the controversy surrounding April’s Vogue cover, starring LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen, I am sure Anna Wintour is looking forward to a more peaceful reaction to her choice for the May issue. This month it’s a serene-looking Gwyneth Paltrow who has scored the job, wearing a gold lame ruffled gown from Oscar de la Renta’s pre-fall ’08 collection. But it is what she is photographed with, an Iron Man helmet from her latest flick, that’s got me interested…

In friendships you might not expect news, Gwyneth Paltrow showed her love for Beyonce and Jay-Z when she attended the stars’ super-secret vows on April 4.
What did she wear? A Fall 2008 sample from the Proenza Schouler collection, shown at left. She carried a small clutch and donned ankle-strap heels with the bone silk gazar minidress.
“It was arranged last minute,” a rep for the designer told People magazine. The rep maintains that Proenza Schouler had no idea that the dress was for Beyonce’s wedding.

Does it make us evil to pick on someone’s fashion at a charity event?
Eh, that would make most of New York evil. Hmm … we’re not feeling better about this.
But that’s not going to stop us from asking you what you think of Gwyneth Paltrow‘s shocking pink frock at the “Hottest Pink Party” fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Valentino is in no rush to make his final bow on Wednesday after a 45-year career.
“I must leave a souvenir to all of my friends of something to remember, not five seconds of show,” he told WWD. Those friends expected to attend include Gwyneth Paltrow, seen with the designer above, Uma Thurman, Liv Tyler and Elizabeth Hurley.
The show will include 75 looks, which is a lot for any show but particularly – amazingly – for haute couture.
“I really enjoyed very, very much making this collection and, on purpose, I decided to make it a little bit bigger,” he said. The designer seems to be conciously cultivating a very upbeat atmosphere around his final show, as opposed to a sentimental showing.
For details on the looks we can expect, keep reading.

I have been a bit confused about why the Writer’s Guild of Hollywood strike might ruin our red carpet fashion season, and so I thought some of our readers might be too and we could all use a good explanation. It is not just that the writers are refusing to work for the Golden Globes and Oscars, some of the biggest nights in fashion. It’s more about the fact that the writers may be picketting these events, they already have plans to picket the Golden Globes, which would mean actors who walk the red carpet would be crossing picket lines – which so far most have refused to do. Actors have been showing tremendous solidarity with the writers.
What could this mean? There are predictions of a more low-key red carpet, like the one after 9/11, or a regular awards show dinner like they did in the old days without a red carpet. In this contingency, we’re guessing that after parties like Vanity Fair’s would turn into the fashion show.
