Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ hairstyle named most influential style ever we have a look at the top five

By Andrea Petrou on May 24th, 2011

Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ hairstyle has been named most influential style ever.

The late actresses’ French pleat in the 1961 film – in which she played lead character Holly Golightly – has been given the honour after hairdressers voted it top of their list in a Hairdressing Council poll, revealing it is the most requested style in salons.

Other vintage cuts in the list included ‘Some Like It Hot’ actress Marilyn Monroe’s trademark blonde curls, which were second, and model Twiggy’s crop in third.

Jennifer Aniston made the top 10 for her ‘Friends’ character Rachel Green’s hairstyle aptly named ‘The Rachel’, while Victoria Beckham’s bob cut was also among the frontrunners.

Audrey’s accolade comes after she was voted the most beautiful woman of all time in a poll held by TV channel QVC last year.

Once again she saw off competition from Marilyn, who was third, and Jennifer, who came 10th in the survey.

Modern stars such as Cheryl Cole, who was second, Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson were also outdone by the ‘My Fair Lady’ star.

See  the gallery below for the top five.

ShinyStyle review: ghd Guide to the Seasons AW11 at Soho Hotel

By Elisabeth on May 4th, 2011

These days most of us are in the middle of preparing our summer wardrobe and worrying more about whether to opt for beach blonde or platinum locks for the warmer season (or is that just me?!); the fashion industry however is already six months ahead, focusing on autumn/winter 2011 and beyond.

When you, like me, have been blessed with natural curly tresses you will at some point have discovered the joys of straighteners that can tame even the frizziest of hair. When I discovered ghds many, many years ago I had somewhat of an epiphany and have never looked back since. So when ShinyStyle was invited to attend ghd’s Guide to the Seasons for autumn/winter 2011 at the Soho Hotel just before Easter, I jumped at the chance!

As with most breakfast events, guests were invited to an early morning buffet of light nibbles – smoked salmon on toast, fresh fruit and even teensy poached eggs – as well as fresh orange juice and copious amounts of coffee, before settling down to see what ghd Creative Director Kenna and his team had planned for us.

While this summer is set to embrace the whimsical waves of hippy chic for the festival season, the autumn season brings a new, more simplistic mood. The emphasis is more on a purer, cleaner aesthetic that truly connected with my minimalistic, Scandinavian heart.

Focusing on four distinct styles, Kenna, guided us through the techniques and tools needed to replicate the catwalk looks seen during the shows of Ingrid Vlasov, Sass & Bide, Danielle Scutt and Maria Grachvogel – all of which ghd were responsible for styling.

Whether you prefer a sleek, intelligent and low-sitting ‘New Young Pony Club’ ponytail or the ‘Hey Boy, Hey Girl’ rockabilly quiff and sloppy French roll, expect to see more control and a streamlined style next winter.

The looks definitely made me want to skip summer altogether – boho chic has never really been my style – and fast-forward to autumn, so I can play around with the new ghd style range and stylers and turn my golden locks into artworks.

The ghd style range retails between £10 to £15 and stylers for £119.

Hilary Duff gets easily bored with her hairstyles

By Andrea Petrou on April 18th, 2011

Hilary Duff gets easily bored with her hairstyles.

The singer-and-actress is often changing her tresses as she doesn’t like to keep the same look for too long and is keen to experiment.

Speaking about her new blonde do – which is a similar shade to when she shot to fame playing Lizzie McGuire – Hilary said: “I was like ‘I’m bored and I like wanted to dye my hair really really blonde’ and then I got scared – and then it turned out really blonde. I haven’t been this blonde and my sister’s like calling me Lizzie McGuire which is so funny. I’m like, ‘No please don’t call me that!’ ”

Although she is pleased with the final result, Hilary says the transformation took some time.

She told People magazine: “I was at the salon two days a week for the past two weeks and it was driving me crazy. But you know when you’re just not happy? You’re like, ‘I need this tweaked and fixed,’ and so it was just me being mental.”

She also revealed husband Mike Comrie is a fan of her new look although would be impressed with any of her looks.

She said: “He loves me blonde but when we met I had brown hair so I think he loves me anyway.”

Blake’s barnet claimed to be this season’s must have style

By Andrea Petrou on November 12th, 2009

blake.jpgMove over Jennifer Aniston and Victoria there’s a new hairstyle trend setter in town.

According to The Cut, Gossip Girl Blake Lively has taken the crown for this seasons must have locks, with hairstylists across America claiming her tresses are the new “Rachel.”

The Times has also said everyone wants her “extra long, ultra-shiny blond with a mussed-up tussle frolicking through the ends.”

We think it’s time to get the peroxide and curling tongs out.
