Add some drama this Halloween with eye-catching lashes

If you’re going out this Halloween weekend but aren’t sure what to dress up as – of if you should dress up at all – finding the right outfit can be a nightmare! One simple, yet eye-catching way of adding a bit of ‘something’ to your appearance is investing in fake eyelashes. Luckily there are lots to choose from these days so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a pair.

Selfridges has a great selection of false eye lashes by well-known brands like Shu Uemura and Mac, as well as dramatic make-up brand for your alter ego, and a ShinyShiny favourite, Illamasqua. We also love the paper lashes from PAPERSELF. Inspired by the art of Chinese paper-cutting these lashes blend an element of traditional culture with contemporary design.

Take inspiration above for your next party – just don’t forget to bat those lashes!

ShinyStyle Loves: Topshop Christmas Collection

By Andrea Petrou on October 27th, 2011

Yes, we know, we haven’t even got past Halloween yet, but when we spot a Christmas collection we can’t but help get excited.

And today it’s Topshop that’s got us all giddy with a whole range dedicated to the Christmas Party season. We heart the sequined dresses and tops as well as the Luxe jumpers and intricate beading.

And for those who want to go all vintage there’s also a few feathered pieces to choose from too. Roll on December.

Halloween Costume ideas: Top five skull jewellery pieces

By Andrea Petrou on October 26th, 2011

Halloween is almost upon us and we can’t wait. However, you don’t have to save your scary style until that party.

Instead we heart the idea of giving a subtle nod to the eerie evening a little bit beforehand with jewellery.

There’s a huge range of skull necklaces, rings and earrings out there at the moment, which can be worn to either complete that Halloween outfit or with a casual pair of jeans and smart top in the lead up to the night.

Go for a subtle skull necklace or bling it up with a diamante ring. Whatever you choose you’ll be scarily on-trend.

See the gallerybelow for our top five.

Kristen Stewart talks about her relationship with Robert Pattinson and gives some advice

By Andrea Petrou on October 4th, 2011

Kristen Stewart believes not being an “asshole” is the key to a good relationship.

The 21-year-old actress has been dating her ‘Twilight Saga’ co-star Robert Pattinson – who plays Edward Cullen, the vampire love of her character Bella Swan – since 2009 and Kristen says being honest and refusing to “take s**t” is the only way to maintain a successful love affair.

She said: “Hmm … good relationship advice for me tends to be being honest and knowing yourself. Don’t be an asshole. That’s my advice. Don’t be mean. Don’t take s**t. Don’t settle.”

Although Kristen and Robert, 25, share an on-screen love affair, she admits she doesn’t like to watch the ‘Twilight’ movies with him but instead prefers to view them with Robert’s fictional romance rival Taylor Lautner, who plays werewolf Jacob Black.

She told the US edition of Glamour magazine: “It’s fun to watch with him because we actually sit and watch it. Me and Taylor are actual ‘Twilight’ fans, so we can sit there and be totally into it! Whereas I sit there with Rob … he likes it, but he has just such a different energy.”

Gallery: Halloween make-up

By Andrea Petrou on October 28th, 2009

Halloween is coming around faster than we can say witches brew, and by the weekend people will be out in their dressed up droves going to parties and celebrating the annual event in a range of different costumes.

Some may choose to bend the rule book a bit, dressing up as superheroes, pink playboy bunnies or cheerleaders and others will stick to the traditional plan and don the witches, zombie and witches cat outfits complete with matching makeup.

However, if you want something that little bit more different then we’ve put together a gallery of Halloween make-up to help you along your wicked way. Unfortunately we can’t provide the broomstick.

Click on the picture below to begin or watch our video, featuring Zara, to get some tips on how to create your own angelic make-up look.

How celebrities celebrated Halloween

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 3rd, 2008

Heidi Klum’s Halloween costume is always impressive, and this year she definitely outdid herself as Indian goddess Kaali!

Other A’s for effort would have to go to Project Runway winner Christian Siriano in his version of Cruella De Vil (click through to see what he renamed her) and former The View presenter Meredith Vieira, who showed what a good sense of humor she must have, in what would have to be my personal favourite costume this year!

Check out the gallery of the best celebrity Halloween costumes of 2008. CLICK ON THE IMAGE BELOW TO START THE GALLERY.

What’s Halloween hostess Kate Moss dressing as?

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on October 31st, 2008

From our U.K. fashion blog, Catwalk Queen

Have you decided what you’re dressing up as for Halloween? Time is a ticking.

Kate Moss apparently has her costume all sorted, after her best pal Fran Cutler, spilled the beans on what she’ll be wearing.

“Kate and I are planning to dress up as Tina Turner and Cher,” she told Grazia.

The supermodel cancelled her appearance at the Christopher Kane party this week, and was instead seen at Heathrow with on-off boyfriend, Jamie Hince. Rumours have it that she and Naomi Campbell are planning a Halloween-themed bash.

The only question is where? Or more importantly, will Kate choose Tina or Cher?

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Will you dress up for Halloween?

Cindy Crawford Amy Winehouse.jpg

As you can see Cindy Crawford dressed up as Amy Winehouse for Kate Hudson’s annual Halloween bash.

She dressed up as the troubled rocker in beehive, mock tattoos, and strappy animal print dress. Other celebs to get into the spirit included Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Isla Fisher, and Sacha Baron Cohen.

But the real question is, will you dress up for Halloween? Yay or Nay?

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on October 28th, 2008

High End POTW.jpg

We’re not sure whose caviar dreams include spending $1,000 plus on a Halloween get-up, but at least this one is fabulous and has a life outside a closet full of slutty Disney princess costumes.

The Luella Penelope Ribbon Dress, $1,130, is darkly gothic and fashionably sexy.

It also requires some creativity on your part. Sure, you could be a witch, or you could be a dark fairy, a dead socialite? Tell us your stylishly spooky ideas in the comments!
