Halloween costumes: Brothers Grimm meet Fifty Shades

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on October 18th, 2012

We haven’t read the much talked about novel featuring protagonists Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey (just the names make us cringe), but expect the Fifty Shades phenomenon to make its mark on this year’s Halloween celebrations as many women may look to embrace their inner seductress and femme fatale through fancy dress.

But if you don’t fancy being a modern day Mata Hari, why not mix in a bit of old school fairytale Brothers Grimm style? After all these days most costumes – even those made into loveable Disney characters – appear come in a ‘sexy’ version…

Here are some of our top choices this Halloween:

Red Riding Hood

Not your average girl, Red Riding Hood outwitted the big bad wolf. Add a dark twist with this Gothic costume. Boots and gloves not included. Available from Angels Fancy Dress for £44.99.

Halloween Costume ideas: Witch make up and how to get the look

By Andrea Petrou on October 24th, 2011

As we’ve said numerous times throughout our Halloween Costume Ideas series there are sexy and fashionable ways to turn up to party.

You don’t have to go in full traditional zombie bride attire, nor do you have to cake on that make up to get that demonic look.

Last week we gave you a few pointers on how to be a fashionable devil and today it’s the turn for wannabe witches. You’ve got that sexy witch dress but covering your face with green paint and a hairy mole at the end of your nose won’t do you any favours.

Instead why not look for an obvious, yet subtle alternative. View the gallery below to get some tips on how to bewitch those eyes. Add black lipstick and you’re all set to go.

Halloween outfit ideas: The sexy Twilight vampire

By Andrea Petrou on October 5th, 2011

With a nation going Twilight and vampire mad we’re sure there will be a huge number of you looking for that sexy vampire outfit this Halloween.

While many will choose to don that casual jeans and sweater look and claim they’ve come as “Bella Swan” there are others – us included – that will want to make more of an effort.

However, the days of the white face paint, fangs and cloaks are long gone and in their place comes sexy gothic. This can be anything from a burlesque style look – we’re thinking Interview with the Vampire style – to a simple velvet dress, which can be bought from the highstreet and vamped up with bright red lippy and heavy eyeliner.

We’ve picked our top five sexy vampire outfits for this year’s Halloween parties. See the gallery below.

Halloween costume ideas: The Spice Girls

By Andrea Petrou on October 4th, 2011

As we pointed out yesterday, one hot Halloween trend this year is to dress up as celebrities and characters. Partly because it requires less effort and partly down to the huge celebrity world we live in.

And one look that’s set to be huge is the Spice Girl.

‘re not talking about the way they are now because that would be like wearing a posh dress to a party, more the way they were – think leopard print, garish trousers, checks and ginghams with the must have Union Jack dress.

That’s right Spice Girl mania is back for one night.
The great thing about this Halloween look is that you don’t necessarily have to visit a fancy dress shop. Scary Spice’s leopard print looks can easily be bought from the highstreet thanks to the leopard print trend thats clawed its way in this year, while Posh’s LBD can be bought nearly anywhere.
Sporty Spice fans can head to the nearest sports shop and buy a tracksuit and those who want to go all out in the Union Jack dress can get a replica from a range of fancy dress stores.
We’ve found all the best looks so all you need to do is click to buy.

See the gallery below.

It’s great when retailers realize that not everyone who wants to dress stylishly (and affordably) is size 12 and under, and even better when they celebrate their plus-size-only collections like Old Navy. [FabSugar]

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Will you dress up for Halloween?

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on October 29th, 2008

Cindy Crawford Amy Winehouse.jpg

As you can see Cindy Crawford dressed up as Amy Winehouse for Kate Hudson’s annual Halloween bash.

She dressed up as the troubled rocker in beehive, mock tattoos, and strappy animal print dress. Other celebs to get into the spirit included Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Isla Fisher, and Sacha Baron Cohen.

But the real question is, will you dress up for Halloween? Yay or Nay?

Bargain Pick of the Week: Cute and quirky Halloween options from Shana Logic

By Andrea Thatcher on October 18th, 2007

Shana%20Logic%20halloween.jpg

Want to give your nurse’s costume a turn for the twisted without resorting to fake blood? Paint your nails a wicked red and put on these Nurse-y Arm Warmers from Shana Logic for just $16. And then spray on the fake blood if you want. Something about them reminds me of a nurse that would pop out to give you an evil injection in a haunted mental ward, but worn with a cutesy candy striper get up they could be completely innocent too. For details on the rest of our bargain options for adding a hint of Halloween to your fashion, keep reading.
