David and Victoria Beckham are considering leaving Los Angeles

By Andrea Petrou on December 19th, 2011

Victoria Beckham at the British Fashion Awards at The Savoy in London - 28 November 2011

David and Victoria Beckham are considering leaving Los Angeles.

The soccer star is in talks with French club Paris Saint-Germain and a number of UK teams and rather than Victoria and their four children Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, nine, Cruz, six, and four-month-old daughter Harper remaining in Los Angeles while he plays in Europe, the entire family may relocate with the couple already lining up possible schools for the boys.

A source told the Mail on Sunday: “David is on the brink of committing to either Paris Saint-Germain or a UK club. He’ll make the announcement just after the New Year.

“They are preparing to be back in Britain and have been looking at schools for the boys. David is keen on one particular school because it’s the area where he grew up and when he was a child he always wished he could have gone there.”

Although Victoria was initially reluctant to move, the hugely successful fashion designer is now “excited” about returning home.

The source added: “David has always been adamant he wants to end his career in Europe and Victoria is totally behind the move. She is using the opportunity to work on her fashion profile in Europe and the boys will be privately educated. They are all very excited.

“Victoria wants to come back to London and live between the capital and Paris but she won’t give up the place in LA. The advantage of being over here is they can spend more time with their families. But they love LA so it’s likely they’ll be back.”

Alexa Chung favours 60s styles for her figure

By emilyborrett on September 5th, 2011

Alexa Chung says that 60s-style clothes flatter her slender figure best.

The model and TV presenter has a fondness for classic 60s fashion because it was a decade that favoured leggy, gamine girls such as Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy who have a similar figure to Alexa’s.

Alexa told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “My ex-boyfriend [photographer David Titlow] showed me Antonioni’s 1966 film ‘Blow-Up’ in my late teens. I remember seeing Jane Birkin. And I couldn’t believe it. She even made just wearing a pair of tights look sexy. . . I think the 60s vibe suits my body type, which is skinny legs and a boyish frame. It’s the groupie vibe that I’m attracted to. They had these amazing love affairs, and both the men and the women were made amazing by them. The girls in the 60s were never overshadowed by the men they dated. You can talk about Jean Shrimpton without having to mention Bailey or Terence Stamp first.”

Alexa understandably tried to distance herself from her classic 60s dress sense because every teenage girl in the UK began copying her – oh, the perils of being a style icon! She said about the Alexa copycats: “I fell out of love with the 60s for a while. I think because I was so identified with it. It’s like Sienna Miller when she did boho, then suddenly stopped because she was like, ‘F**k. What else can I do, because I’ve done it?’ Everyone copied my sodding coat for a while too. It was my Harrods kid’s vintage one. Every girl suddenly had one and I was like, ‘Arrgh!’ I got really bored of smock dresses and loafers for a while. But I feel like I’m ready to fall in love all over again.”

Yeah, I feel like that whenever thousands of teenage girls suddenly start dressing like me too, Alexa. I totally feel your pain.

She’s a glamourpuss again: Amy Winehouse’s black and white shoot for Harper’s Bazaar

By Andrea Petrou on October 14th, 2010

By Emily Borrett.

Amy Winehouse seems to be back on top form, as a tasteful black and white photoshoot for the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar showed us. The smoky-voiced singer looked much more healthy and glamorous than she has in a very long time, rocking her iconic Bardot-esque beehive and a 1960s pea coat for the shoot, which will be available to buy later this week.

It’s good to see that Amy’s recovered from her fall from grace – a couple of years ago you couldn’t look through a gossip magazine without seeing a photo of her looking tired and scabby, or hear increasingly nasty developments of her tumultuous relationship with her then-hubby, Blake.  But what a recovery she’s made. The singer has regained her curves, got a lovely new boyfriend and is set to launch a classically 1950s collection of sportswear with iconic British fashion brand Fred Perry, which should be available to buy this month. It’s good to have Wino back again – we can’t wait to see what she’s come up with.

First looks: Demi Moore for Harpers Bazaar where she talks Ashton and Alexander McQueen

By Andrea Petrou on March 18th, 2010

April NS Cover Demi Moore.JPG

Wow, we have to admit, we have a major lady crush on Demi Moore.

The actress, whose been one to watch in the style stakes for many years now (who can forget that cute pixie crop she sported in Ghost, which was coveted by many woman, and copied by the braver ones amongst us) has just landed onto the April cover of Harpers Bazaar looking as young and fresh faced as ever.

And Demi fans won’t be disappointed, because the mag has also secured an interview with the star where she talks about the first time she met Ashton and why she prefers being called a puma over a cougar.

“Cougar has become so distasteful. I really hate that expression.” She said recently that when it comes to her relationship, she’d prefer to be called a puma. “It has a sweeter quality, more elegant. And then somebody said to me, ‘Pumas are only for people in their 30s.’”

On the first night she met Ashton: “I knew it had the potential to be something special right away. It was like meeting somebody that I’ve just known where you just recognise one another.

“It was so disproportionate, the level of emotion we were experiencing to the time we had spent together. But when you don’t know someone, you can’t just jump and say, ‘I love you.’ ‘Nice to meet you, I love you!’ Yeah. No. We used to end our calls or emails with ‘And everything we don’t say.’ It just seemed too much, too soon.”

On Alexander McQueen: “McQueen was a genius. I was always thrilled to wear his clothes because they were more than fashion; they were truly works of art.”

The April issue hits stands March 30th.

Kate Moss poses for Harpers Bazaar and confesses why she doesn’t see herself as a fashion designer

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010

Kate Moss shows us why she’s one of the most successful models of this era with this stunning shoot for Hapers Bazaar.

Posing in seductive, cleavage-revealing lingerie, Moss gets into bed with two guys before confessing she doesn’t consider herself a fashion designer: “I’m not really a fashion designer. I just love clothes. I’ve never been to design school. I can’t sketch. I can’t cut patterns and things. I can shorten things. I can make a dress out of a scarf,” she told the magazine

We’ll be buying the magazine so we can keep that quote next to us while we’re unsuccessfully trying to draw out our dream dress, and we’re sure many men will be sneaking this issue off the shelf too.

Mag watch: The sky’s the limit for Kate Winslet and Harper’s Bazaar, August ’09 issue

By Kimberley Foster on July 9th, 2009

harpersbazaar_katewinslet_august09_1.jpg

Screen queen Kate Winslet has landed herself another glossy cover, this time for US Harper’s Bazaar’s August ’09 issue. The Oscar-winning actress was photographed by Peter Lindbergh suspended on a tower with New York acting as the stunning backdrop. For the shoot, she dons Burberry, Michael Kors, and Yves Saint Laurent. I just love that white floaty Ralph Lauren dress on her (above right) don’t you?

Harper’s Bazaar criticized over Angelina Jolie “tabloid” cover

By Kimberley Foster on June 10th, 2009

harpersbazaar_us_angelinajolie_julyissue.jpgMuch has been made over that Harper’s Bazaar cover starring Angelina Jolie (pictured left) in the past few days. Everyone from readers to journalists to bloggers have been left unimpressed by the magazine’s decision to feature a photo agency picture of the actress on their July cover.

Indeed, even yours truly has been left rather stumped by this choice to use a Getty red carpet photo instead of the usual stylised photo-shoot image. As if that wasn’t strange enough, there isn’t even an interview with Ange inside the mag, just an essay written by Naomi Wolf about the actress. As some have put it, it’s bordering on tabloid.

Bazaar March covergirl Sarah Jessica Parker talks recessionista fashion

By Andrea Thatcher on February 5th, 2009

Sarah Jessica Parker Bazaar.jpg

Sarah Jessica Parker graces the cover of the upcoming March fashion issue of Harper’s Bazaar in one of my favorite new trends – zippers.

Asked how alterego Carrie Bradshaw would handle today’s recessionary times, Parker said “She would probably end up in a hospital. Perhaps she would go back to her ’80s stuff and start bringing it out again.”

We wonder if it’s as good as Parker’s own ’80s stuff. “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” anyone?

The March issue of Harper’s Bazaar hits newstands February 17. See more here.

Everyone’s hopped all over the Karl Lagerfeld-as-rapper image from the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar, so we decided to show you some of the other designers’ fantasy shoots.

Here’s designer Michael Kors as James Stewart as L.B. Jeffries in Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” which is a fabulously styled movie.

Donatella Versace chose to portray “The Princess and the Pea” on a pile of matresses.

“I am not a great believer in fairy tales,” she said. “Every woman should fight hard for her own happy endings. Although occasionally, it is nice to wake up as a princess.”

For more on what the likes of Tyra Banks, Donna Karan and more chose for their shoots, keep reading.

Paying tribute to all things British, is Harper’s Bazaar’s September ’08 issue. Stealing the cover spot is our very own model-come-author, Sophie Dahl, elegantly shot by Alexei Hay.

The special edition includes bits and pieces on Kate Moss, Alexander McQueen, Lily Cole and Rosamund Pike. As well as extracts from Dahl’s writing. Loving the Audrey Hepburn-esque up ‘do Soph!

Runway Report.jpg

Can’t get enough Harper’s Bazaar? Well now you can get more fashion from the venerable magazine with their new publication Runway Report, on newstands July 29.

The title hopes to help readers create and and edit the perfect wardrobe each season, with pieces organized by city and designer.

“We found that there was still so much more we wanted to say about the clothes, and so many more looks that we wanted to highlight from each show,” Bazaar fashion news and features director Kristina O’Neill, now editor of Runway Report, told Fashion Week Daily. “We know our readers love clothes, and this is really a full report on what we saw at the shows, and what they are going to want to be wearing as soon as the weather cools.”
