Victoria Beckham is banned from wearing heels at New York Fashion Week

By emilyborrett on August 23rd, 2011

Victoria Beckham might feel a little out of her comfort zone at the upcoming New York Fashion Week, as a doctor has advised her against wearing her usual high heels at the event for health reasons.

Victoria, who has in the past confessed to not being able to live without her heels, recently suffered a slip disc after giving birth to her new baby girl Harper and has been warned by doctors to avoid stilettos and the like to stop the problem getting worse. But Dr, it’s NEW YORK FASHION WEEK! She can’t wear flats!

A source apparently close to Victoria spoke about the high-heels ban: “Victoria’s not had an easy past few weeks. But she’s a trooper and after getting the all-clear to attend Fashion Week – provided her back doesn’t significantly deteriorate – she has been advised to avoid heels. Although her heel-wearing wasn’t the cause of her back problems, stilettos don’t help her condition. Victoria has been frantically surfing the web for an acceptable pair of flats, ones which don’t make her look like a golf club.”

Mama Beckham isn’t too pleased with the prognosis, having previously expressed her hatred for wearing ballerina flats. She said: “I beyond hate ballerina flats – I can’t even walk in them.” However, she’s sucking it up and focusing on getting better for Harper and the rest of the Beckham clan.

When you get a chance, Posh, you should actually put your feet up – we can’t wait to see the new collection either.

Get bargain beauty with the Wahanda MobDeal

By Andrea Petrou on April 15th, 2010

Beauty Wah.jpg

We all want to live the life of a celebrity, but sadly for most of us we can’t afford the endless amount of grooming, pampering and pilates to get in tip top shape…until now that is.

Thanks to Wahanda we can now get the crème de la crème of deals, which basically lets us get pampered and preened like a celebrity at ridiculously affordable prices.

The Wahanda MobDeal, is an incentive that has been around for a few months and if we’re honest, we’ve been keeping this to ourselves for some time (sorry Shinystylers we promise we’ll never hide our secrets from you again.)

It works by giving members a new beauty deal, which goes live from midnight to midnight each day and works through “group buying” to get us treatments such as massages, spa days, hair cuts and pedicures for as little as £10 a day.

Now we realise we’ve shot ourselves in the foot by not telling you before because for the deal to work a minimum number of sales has to be achieved per deal, this number varies by day and by deal.

Once you buy your deal, a voucher is sent to your email with a special code to redeem your deal and best of all, Wahanda is giving something back – for every MobDeal purchase made, Wahanda will donate £1 to charity:water to continue supporting their great cause of bringing fresh water to communities.

Sign up to Wahanda’s MobDeal daily alerts now to get your bargain beauty.

Lady Gaga tells fans “its ok not to have sex”

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2010

Lady G Jonathan Ross.jpg

After her own personal problems have hit the headlines, Lady Gaga has decided to help her fans with their health and wellbeing.

The star, who recently admitted she suffers from insomnia and also caused concerns over her outfit being a health risk on a flight to London, is now advising fans that it’s “ok not to have sex.”

The singer who is backing a MAC campaign in support of global HIV and Aids projects said: “It’s not really cool any more to have sex all the time. It’s cooler to be strong and independent.

“I want to celebrate with my fans that it’s OK to be whomever it is that you want to be.

“You don’t have to have sex to feel good about yourself, and if you’re not ready, don’t do it.”

And if fans are ready, then she’s also thoughtfully decided to give out free condoms at her concert.

We’re not 100% sure what to make of this, but we can say that any high profile celebrity who can influence fans about theirhealth is a good thing, just don’t think you have to follow the singers advice word for word.

Let us know what you think of the latest Lady G announcement.

Victoria Beckham embarks on a new fitness craze

By Andrea Petrou on April 6th, 2010

Victoria Beckham

We’ve seen many a celebrity fitness and spiritual trends over the past few years. Cupping, Kabbalah and the tamer pilates, you name it, we’ve heard about it. And now there’s a new kid on the fitness block.

According to Heat magazine super skinny Victoria Beckham has become a fan of Yogalosophy, which is a combination of yoga and astrology. The designer who has previously admitted she hates the gym is said to have embraced the craze which she can practice in her own home.

The exercise programme involves two 30-minute yoga routines, followed by a 55-minute series of poses – designed to help weight loss and increase muscle definition.

‘She bought the Yogalosophy DVD and does her workout at home up to four times a week to ‘align her mind and spirit’,’ an inside source told Heat magazine.

‘She’s really starting to notice the difference.’

So if that Easter egg fest got a bit too much over the weekend and you don’t want to hit that treadmill this may be a perfect way to get fit too.

As our regular readers know by now, we love a good charity story over here at ShinyStyle. So you can imagine how excited we are to hear about a collaboration between our fave highstreet store Topshop and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The highstreet store and charity are launching a limited edition jersey vest to raise funds for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer in 2010.

The top with the motif “Love to Love” in both black and white will retail at £16, with £5 going to the charity.

The vest hits stores on 29th March, with that, and Stella McCartney’s new range for Gap Kids launching on the same day we’ll be begging our bank for a new overdraft.

Gisele Bündchen launches eco-friendly skincare line

By Andrea Petrou on March 15th, 2010

We all dream of model clear skin (obviously the one without the airbrushing) and now, there may be a teeny tiny chance that we might get our wish.

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen has launched her first skincare line, Sejaa Pure Skincare, which is said to be completely eco-friendly.

It will use ‘all-natural ingredients, thoughtful packaging and recycled paper.’

We think this is a great launch into a different side of the fashion and beauty for the model who became a mum last year. But fans of Gisele needn’t worry, she won’t be hanging up her catwalk shoes just yet. This year seems to be a big one for her.

Lady Gaga’s outfit causes health concerns on plane

By Andrea Petrou on March 10th, 2010

Alexander McQueen high shoes

We’re big fans of Lady Gaga‘s fashion over here at ShinyStyle, but not when it causes health concerns.

According to reports in The Sun, Miss G caused cabin crew to become alarmed on a flight to America from London when her striped yellow and black tape dress complete with Alexander McQeen heels caused her legs to begin to swell.

They feared her symptoms could be the early stages of deep vein thrombosis and begged the star to change.

An airline source told The Sun: ‘GaGa was a high-risk DVT case so she was advised to change out of her clothes. But the outfit was so cumbersome she needed help changing out of it. She was particularly miffed about ditching her heels. She was wearing them in memory of her friend Alexander.’

Oh dear Miss G, there’s fashion victim, and then there’s just plane (sorry) stupid.
