Christmas party outfits: Very high heels

By lotte on November 16th, 2009

We’ve covered a lot of the essentials for Christmas party style over the last couple of weeks, but now it’s time for the most important part of any outfit: the shoes.

Heels are as high as they’ve ever been this year, and our picks reflect that. Whether you need a pair to ramp up an outfit from a 10 to an 11 on the oufit-ometer, or just to complete an already glittery and over-the-top ensemble, one thing the shoes have to be is towering. If there was ever a time to get out your shoes that are a bit uncomfortable but make your legs look amazing, Christmas is the time. (Just remember to buy some Party Feet gel insoles.)

And if you’re worried about the risk to your ankles after you’ve had one too many glasses of champagne, we’ve included some shoes you can fit in your party bag to change into at the end of the night.

Metallics (especially gold) and different textures are hot this season. See if any of these heels work with your party outfits.

New York Fashion Week: Models give up on shoes at Brian Reyes Fall 09 (including video)

By Kimberley Foster on February 19th, 2009

New York Fashion Week - Brian Reyes Fall 09 barefoot.jpg

Forget walking in ridiculous sky-high heels, models at the Brian Reyes show kicked off their specially-designed Manolo Blahniks for the finale and went barefoot instead. After several stumbles and three models stopping to take off their stilettos, they forfeited footwear all together to close the show. Besides this misstep (ha!) the collection itself was a cohesive display of tailored separates including belted dresses, stone-coloured suits, bronze jumpsuits and mulberry shifts.

Just in time to rock around the Christmas tree – low-heeled Christian Louboutin pumps

By Andrea Thatcher on November 9th, 2007

Louboutin%20Mody.jpg

You know you’ve got that one pair of jeans that is too long for flats, and too short for your super stilettos. But they make your rearview look great, so don’t sacrafice a sexy shoe! Here’s the perfect answer, the Christian Louboutin Mody patent leather pump, $586. With only a 70mm heel, as opposed to 120mm on many of his stilettos, you’ll be able to run around work all day or dance around the Christmas tree all night. I dig the cool green color at left, but they also come in black, so you’ve no excuse not to splurge.

The pumps feature a comfortable almond shaped toe and tiptoe-inducing 4″ heels. Paired with a simple black dress by night, this one’s ready to create a scene; also available in a luscious (but plain) plum color:

I guess if you can afford Manolo Blahniks there’s actually a good chance that you require a resort wardrobe for the winter. These babies actually run $565 – $665 which is comparatively more affordable than many high-end heels these days. With retailers predicting slow holiday spending, maybe these prices are meant to coerce luxury spenders into buying more. Keep reading for the details on each shoe.

Chie Mihara brings back your youth

By Andrea Thatcher on September 5th, 2007

mary%20janes.jpg
These suede Mary Jane pumps by Chie Mihara with Velcro strap are a fabulous shade of blue for fall that just scream school-girl chic. Perfect to be paired with skinny jeans and a slinky top, they’re also appropriate for the office when paired with a knee-length skirt and cardigan. I just adore this shade of peacock blue and it really does match anything from black to grey to pink to red. The heel also provides more comfort than most heels do and the oversized Velcro strap adds a touch of youth that I just love.
